A couple of months ago, I endured one of the worst weekends imaginable. My toddler suffered a…read moreterrible accident through which she sustained extensive damage to four of her top teeth. This was on a Friday. After she received initial care at a local ER, she was left requiring a visit to an actual pediatric dentist. I called Small to Tall Dentistry at the recommendation of another Dentist and spoke with Dr. Rudder. This was on a Sunday afternoon and after hours; he was the on-call Dentist. Dr. Rudder gave advice on at-home measures I could take and gave us an appointment first thing the next day. The faculty, from the receptionist to staff, were incredibly knowledgeable. More importantly, they were so patient and very kind to my 3 year old. She had suffered so much trauma in the last few days and was very frightened of anyone poking or prodding her mouth. The assistants that dealt with her directly made her feel completely at ease and were able to take the x-rays, complete their assessment of the damage and extract the two remaining teeth. I cannot overstate my gratitude for Dr. Rudder and his team. He showed a tremendous amount of compassion, empathy and professionalism. I even received a follow up, hand-written note from Dr. Rudder inquiring about my child, how she was healing and wishing us well wishes. You don't see genuine care like that these days. My only regret is not having this team follow us to our next location. Thank you, Dr. Rudder and team. I will be forever grateful.

I rarely leave reviews, but I feel other parents deserve to know about our experience…read more All three of my children were recommended for significant dental treatment at this office. My youngest was told he had multiple "very deep" cavities that were "close to the nerve" and needed full sedation. My middle child was told he had severe cavities, would likely need conscious sedation, and might even need to be restrained because he probably wouldn't sit still. We were told they couldn't even get his X-rays because he wouldn't cooperate, but that they would take them while he was sedated. My daughter was told she had a cavity that needed to be drilled and filled. I expressed concern about how invasive these treatment plans seemed, especially for my boys. When I decided to cancel the procedures and seek a second opinion, the response was discouraging. I was told that if we tried treatment with nitrous instead and it didn't work, there would be a $100 "try fee." When I requested copies of my youngest son's X-rays, I was told, "I doubt you have the technology to view them," which I found incredibly dismissive. Today, all three of my children were seen by another dentist, and the findings were dramatically different. My daughter was found to have no cavity at all. My middle child's records from this office included X-rays that had already been taken--despite us being told they were never able to get any because he wouldn't cooperate. He also had nothing that required immediate treatment. My youngest had fewer cavities than we were originally told, they were not deep or close to the nerve, and they can be treated without novocaine or nitrous. All three of my children sat calmly and cooperated wonderfully during their exams. The differences between the two evaluations were alarming. I am incredibly thankful that I trusted my instincts and sought a second opinion before allowing my children to undergo sedation and extensive dental work. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this office.

From the time we first started going there as babies they immediately told us one child needed a lip tie cut, and the other needed a tongue tie cut and referred us to a speech therapist. Neither child had any speech defects or problems talking where that would ever be necessary. We chose to not do either and they are just fine. Then every appointment after we were told they would have multiple cavities that needed the expensive sealer put on them, then this last time we were told that our 6 yr old needed a crown! It seemed that every time we went back it was more expensive for reasons that didn't really seem to add up. We just moved out of state and saw a new dentist and after doing x-rays he confirmed no crown would ever be needed, and there were only a few cavities that were minor unlike what they had told us at Olympia pediatric dentistry. We had another friend with a child that went there who was told the exact same thing and proceeded to do the crown, causing the child, extensive anxiety and trauma. They ended up going to another dentist and again was told that was not necessary and never needed to be done. It feels like this place is constantly trying to get you for more money when the work isn't even necessary. Just be aware!

I want to start by saying the dental assistant was absolutely amazing. After I gave him a brief rundown of my son, he was patient, kind, and extremely skilled. He was able to take all necessary X-rays, clean my son's entire mouth, and even floss -- which is not easy for a child with sensory sensitivities. My son did phenomenally and felt great about the appointment. Unfortunately, everything changed when Dr. Eric Sun entered the room. Because this was our first visit, I began to give the doctor the same explanation so he would understand my son's needs. Before he even looked into my son's mouth, the doctor stated that the chances of him treating my son's cavity were likely slim due to my son's autism, age, and size. To be clear, my son is a typical teenage-sized 13-year-old boy, with no history of behavioral issues, and he had just demonstrated excellent cooperation. The way the doctor spoke to me felt condescending, alarmist, and exaggerated. When I calmly asked why the situation was being presented in such an alarmist manner, the interaction immediately became hostile. He responded with, "I'm sorry you think I'm being melodramatic. Is it okay if I talk now?" I have never experienced such an uncomfortable or adversarial encounter in a dental office. Thankfully, I had my adult daughter with me for moral support, and she quietly encouraged me to stay calm. The dental assistant stood silently, visibly uncomfortable, staring at the floor. We left shortly afterward. I made sure to tell the dental assistant how wonderful he was, as none of this reflected on him. I briefly mentioned the experience to the receptionist while asking for a business card, knowing it likely would not go anywhere. I also made sure not to upset my son, who believed the appointment went well and had no idea what was happening around him. I am leaving this review because if you have a child with special needs, this is not the place to go. Parents should not feel dismissed or belittled for advocating for their children. This was one of the most uneasy and distressing medical encounters I've ever experienced -- and unfortunately, as a parent of an autistic child, I've experienced many. Please avoid this office if your child requires understanding, patience, and respectful care.

My 8 year old has been going since she was a baby as well and will be surely getting braces here in a few more years. My youngest has had an oral surgery at this office (when she was 4) and I cannot tell you how amazing they were. They assured her safety, and were extremely cautious and careful when treating her. I could tell they were not taking unecessary risks when they had an anesthialogist come in to administer and oversee my daughter during the entire process. This practice is a well oiled machine. Everything they do is for the children they serve. They are kind, patient, reassuring, fun, and compassionate. You can tell that Dr. Andy only hires the best and those who meet his mission of providing amazing care to his child patients. The rates are a bit higher for braces, I am told, but ultimately, for us, we don't mind paying a bit more for continued care and with a dentist and staff my children were already familiar with. They explain all of their procedures and processes. Their billing process is clear and upfront. They answer their phones when you call to pay your bill. They always return calls promptly. They deal with your insurance company so you don't have to. They send reminders about appointments. They have a child friendly waiting room, an open bay where children are being treated, which promotes a sense of calmness with children as they see other kiddos getting worked on. They have prizes and special programs throughout the year. Dr. Kapust himself is a kind dentist who has a wonderful manner with children. He is kind and explains himself to them and uses kid friendly terms so they don't become scared, "wiggle teeth out" instead of pull......"happy air" instead of gas.....etc. He is also involved in the community and cares about his patients, their families, and the community. His staff are amazing as well. I have never encountered an unfriendly employee. I was very touched when, while my daughter was having two tooth extractions yesterday, I observed one of the dental assistants put her hand on my daughter's arm and hold it there in a comforting manner so my daughter would feel at ease while lying in the chair. I wish I could remember her name, because she was a shining star in this mama's eyes. I was sitting at the end of the chair and couldn't get up there as I would be in the way, so I was very happy to see her comforting my child in a genuine and unforced way. You can tell she loves her job and her patients. Most employees have been there for a long time. It is a testament to the business Dr. Andy runs, there isn't a lot of turnover, and you actually get to know all of the employees. Shout out to Bonnie, Amanda, and Dione....... :) The only thing that is tough for me at times, is, because they are so popular.... they have a lot of patients , so you can have an extended wait time past your appointment from time to time, which is tough for me as a working parent. AND, if you have to cancel an appt, it is very tough to reschedule for a time close to your original appt...you usually have to wait several weeks or more. This is the only frustrating aspect for me as a parent, but I cannot blame other parents for bringing their children here causing Dr. Kapust to have a thriving practice. Regardless of my crazy shift work schedule, they have found a way to work with me. If you are looking for a pediatric dentist, look no further.

Now that we're on our 4th kid in braces, I can completely assure you the care here is the best around. Dr. Kapust is second to none - and makes his practice a community business too! I'm always seeing his logo around town, sponsoring everything from community theater to concerts and local events. Kudos to all the staff at Dr. Kapust's office!

I'm a teeth person and obviously want my kids to have the best smiles and this dentist has done that. They take their time and have pride in their work. This is such a fun spot for kids as well, the waiting area has a play area with cool toys. Then you go back and they have headsets for the kids with TVs on the ceiling so they're watching tv while they get a cleaning, that's pretty awesome. Yes it's an open concept so all the kids are in the same room to get their teeth cleaned but I don't see any issues with that personally. This place is extremely clean and the staff here always treats us with respect. At the end of the visits the kiddos get a little coin to select a prize out of the toy machine. Such a kid friendly place. I've taken my kids to the dentist since they were a year old so they're used to them but I think even if you have a child with anxiety this place is worth a try. They really cater to the kids and put their comfort first.

We were told to come back later to have it done and see the receptionist for the payment amounts. I asked Pamela due to it being the holidays and root canals are expensive if I could speak to the dentist to see if there was anything else that could be done to alleviate my child's pain. Well Pamela loudly informs me they don't give out pain medication. I stated I never asked for pain medication and can I speak to the dentist. She walks down the hall and loudly says to someone. Well she wants to know what can we do for pain and that she didn't ask for pain medication. She was extremely rude. Violating Hippa laws also by speaking loudly in the hall were I heard her all the way back up to the front. The Dr was nice and apologized for her behavior. However it's not enough. What made her think to say this to me? Why was she so adamant about pain medication not being given to my child? I understand the opioid epidemic in Wa however my son nor I asked for any type of medication. So that leaves it to the color of our skin. I don't recommend anyone go here. I also called an left a voicemail which is also Pamela's, I guess she didn't get it because the Dentist called and my husband let him know we were not coming back. If your office staff is that rude and violates hippa laws in that way how can I be comfortable allowing my child to come back. Your staff reflects on you as a Doctor.
