Be prepared for a somewhat steep climb up to the Biergarten and Monastery. You will definitely need a beer when you reach the top. The property is gorgeous and we enjoyed the view. Table service seemed to be available only indoors on this day. The food, an array of items such as pretzels, potatoes, meats like pork Haxn and meat loaf were quite tasty. The dark beer, "dunkel", is my favorite and it was fabulous. The varieties this time of year is mind boggling. A half liter was fine for me. We had a lovely time talking to the sales clerk in the brewery store downstairs (stop there for shirts, glassware, etc) about his eclectic beer can collection from all over the world. My non-German colleagues were all surprised by how many different potato possibilities there were. I'm vegan, but they luckily has a jackfruit goulash which was really good. It was mislabeled as vegan but with dairy, so I had to get some clarification on what it actually was, but once they confirmed that it didn't have dairy, all good. Of the like half a dozen potato dishes, only one was vegan, which was sort of disappointing, but it was fine. There were some other veggies and a vegan salad, plus bread. So I definitely didn't leave hungry at all. Unfortunately, there were no vegan dessert options, but my colleagues at least got to enjoy theirs. All in all, I had a really nice time. The lack of many options to choose from made me a bit sad, but luckily the vegan dinner option was mega good (and places that serve mushrooms as the vegan option should take note). It was creative and done well. (Though it's normally 24 euros, and I don't think I'd pay that much for it.) If you like meat and nice beer gardens, check this spot out. There was soooo much beer on the tour and people kept handing me theirs (I don't know why). Needless to say, I was feeling it by the end of the tour. There was an interesting beer-based shot drink at the end that was good. Again, people kept giving me theirs and the tour guide poured me a second one. Geez! The manager brought me a massive meal with a large portion of duck. I questioned him is this the 1/4 duck? He replied "yes". I continued with my meal. At the end I received the bill and was charged for a much pricier dish. I questioned the server and manager and I was told I had to pay for the meal I did not want, or order. While I realize this is a common mistake I was surprised by the strong arm tactics used by the manager to force me to pay the higher price. I was on a date and the conflict was getting too out of hand so I payed and left with a horrible taste in my mouth despite the decent food.

I'm by no means a teetotaler, but I'm much less of a beer enthusiast than I was in my college days. Embarrassingly enough, I wasn't even sure what a Weizenbock was exactly. If you're like me, fear not as I'll briefly explain. It's a strong German wheat beer that mixes the rich, fruity, and spicy notes of a Hefeweizen (traditional wheat beer) with the robust maltiness of a Bock, creating a full-bodied, flavorful ale with a higher alcohol content (7.1% ABV in this specific case) and a signature fluffy head. Their flavor typically features bready, toasty, and fruity (banana, clove) aromas and flavors, with darker versions adding caramel and deeper malt notes. According to the bottle, Ayinger's brew is advertised as a pale, robust, spicy wheat ale. The spicy description turned me off, but while I could detect a hint of it, it was not overly so. Pouring the bottle into my glass revealed a hazy, pale golden color. It was a bit dry, boozy, but extremely drinkable and smooth. Coming from a guy that doesn't like many beers, this was a good one. Our personal favorite is the Dunkel, a darker full bodied truly Bavarian brew. You'll really want to drink them both, so plan to stay awhile in their charming Biergarten. All of their brews are organic, small batch beers, brewed onsite at this friendly, truly Bavarian establishment. The authentic food is some of the most delicious you'll find in all of Bavaria. The Schnitzel and German Potato Salad, yum! although everything we've eaten there was wonderful. The location is charming, nestled in the countryside with easy walking trails throughout the area. Consider this a "must stop" when you're in the area. It's on our list again for our next trip to Europe. PS: I understand they also offer occasional entertainment, but don't know much about it.
