I moved here from California a little over a month ago and heard about this place from a friend of mine. Scheduled an appt with Barber John for a Saturday afternoon. Walking into the place, was greeted by every barber working at the time. Had a seat in an ultra plush waiting room chair, and got to watch some sport center while I waited for John to finish with his customer before me. Had to wait a whole 6 minutes and John introduced himself and had me sit down in the chair. Now the attention to detail that John showed me must be a habit for everyone that works there because both the barbers to the left and right of me were working just as diligently as John was on me. The whole time, talking to every customer that was waiting or sitting in the chair getting trimmed up. By the time I was done, it felt like I had a new group of guys and gals to sit and bullshit with, all the while getting an awesome, much needed grooming. Can't say enough nice things about John and all the rest of the staff at Hayes Barber Shop. You guys have a customer for life. Highly highly recommend. read more

Quick and legit . Mike cut my sons hair in less than 15 min and it looked better than ever . They were able to make a same day appointment . Only reason I'm giving 4 stars is they didn't tell me over the phone it was cash only . Even with the $4 atm fee I still tipped $10 on a $20 haircut . Will go back for sure read more

They need to stop taking walk ins if they don't know how to properly handle them. Walked in with 3 ahead of me and one who has an appointment. More and more people were walking in, names were being taken, never took mine, never took me, finally walked out. No service. I think they play favorites if they're familiar with their regular walk ins, but if you're new it's a no go. This is what I get for thinking I could go to just any barber shop, I'll stick with Kingsfield Grooming in Rochester, even if it is a drive for me but better yet, appointment based only. read more

Horrible just got a haircut from the girl that works here asked her to cut my hair length in like a middle of my nose cut she cut it right above the eyebrows. In addition to that when they make the shape around your ears both are uneven and one of them just has a straight line on top of the arch. I do not recommend this place read more

Excellent customer service, the guys are so helpful. I love the old school greeting when walking into a place, 3 of the barbers made eye contact and said welcome back, it's good to see you. Though it was my first time, made me feel like I belonged and been there before. Also have to mention the talent. Wow, I hadn't gotten a hair cut in a while because I was going for a certain look, my barber suggested a style that I not thought of. He said this will give my hair the ability to grow healthier by cutting it just a bit. This morning, I did my hair and was thrilled on the way it looked. This is my new place. A great local place to get a quality haircut. There are usually many barbers working at the same time and are always available for walk-ins. My advice is find a barber that you like and book appointments with him or her on a regular basis because sometimes the quality of the walk-in can be hit or miss. Kind of inconvenient that they don't accept credit cards, but they have an ATM in the shop and to be fair, most barbers that aren't a franchise don't take credit cards. Very convenient business hours being open every day but Monday. read more

Barbers are all amazing here. The barber I go to is JP and honestly he's as pro as a pro can get. Very consistent, friendly, and does an amazing job every single time. Didn't ask me my name. My short haircut took way too long to complete and the results we're not revealed to me until it was completed. No mirrors. The cost of $15 was well enough, but when I handed her at 20 she assumed that I was giving her a five dollar tip. She probably thought she'd never see me again anyways, And she was right. John is on top of everything here. The people that work here are all friendly and do great work. You can tell they take care in what they do and are passionate about their work. I went to Hayes Barber Shop for a haircut today. First time. My usual person is sick and I couldn't deal with the shaggy mess that was my hair, so I jumped on Yelp to take a look. It was Sunday, so my choices were limited. I was pleased to find that Hayes Barber Shop was open and that they had excellent reviews. Off I went. I had to wait for a short time before I was sat down in a chair, and so I observed. As a woman told the barber next to me as she was leaving, "I was watching you guys. You do good work. We'll be back." I felt the same way. All of these guys are comfortable and know what they're doing, but they all take an extra minute to make sure things are right. It makes all the difference. This was one of the longer haircuts I've had with a barber, but it was also one of the best -- especially considering it was my first time there. My barber was Josh. Friendly, easygoing, and a pro barber. It's hard to describe, but his movements said a lot about his skillset. From the way he tilted my head with his fingers when trimming around my ears, to the way he would spin the chair just a little and catch it exactly where he needed to with his foot. Each thing he did showed that he was skilled and confident. I gave him a 2-3 sentence description of what I wanted, and didn't get a glimpse of it until he was completely done. I was surprised that he cut it exactly the way I usually wear it -- the way that usually takes someone 2-3 visits to get right as they get to know me and my hair. The shop is nice too -- a couple leather chairs up front, and a big section of them in the middle of the shop with a big screen TV to watch. The shop was clean, had a cool look to it, and everyone seemed happy and was looking good. Even the bathroom was nice. Considering it was just $15 for a cut like most other barbers, I was impressed to see what a nice place it was. They do accept cards, which is a plus -- but cut the guys a break and bring cash to pay with. They charge a fair price so I feel it's a nice thing to do. Overall, no complaints. I'm very happy with my visit and the outcome, which is rare for my first time somewhere. This is no doubt a great barber shop and if you decide to come here, you'll be happy you did! read more

This is a great place to go. A great barbershop with talent friendly people and a relaxed non intimidating atmosphere. If you have never had a hot towel shave you need to have one. They have lots of different services and their prices are very reasonable. I will never go to a chain place again not if I am with in an hour of this place! read more

Average cuts at best. This place cannot handle walk-ins and the barbers just jump around the order. Also, it is pretty disgusting when your barber's hands reek of cigarettes and the barber next to you smells like a dispensary. Barbers regularly trash talk clients who are just out of hearing distance or have just left. No mirror was used at the end, I said no part line and was given one anyway, uneven fade, super rough cut. This place when it first opened up was great but after today I won't be doing any walk ins with my son again. We were told it would be 1/2hr to 40 min wait but it ended up being 1hr and 20min before we walked out with still no haircut. Some young kid was keeping track of who was next but was not doing a great job. If you are regular I guess you get VIP treatment to go first. They didn't have a name list going which would of helped but they think letting a young kid keep track by memory worked bettter. And I finally I find it very irritating that while I kept having to wait the hairstylists kept taking breaks to outside in the front an smoke cigarettes like it was a hangout joint even though they had full house of people waiting! read more

Incredibly disorganized. They don't have a sign in and let people go ahead of you even if they don't have appointments. We waited an hour and were patiently waiting out turn and then they let 3 people who came in after go ahead of my son. Unbelievable. We walked out w no cut and completely ignored. I was in town from Alaska for a friends wedding and wasn't able to get my hair cut before I left. Went onto Yelp and found Hayes was pretty close to where I was. Drove over, walked in, waited about 5 minutes to get in a chair and was very pleased with the result. I have been there twice and never again! The first time I went there the barber spent more time on his phone than he spent cutting my hair. The second time I tried one of the other barbers. When I paid him with a $20 and asked for singles back so I could give him a 20% tip, he said "What! No tip?" before he gave me my change. Used to be my favorite place to get a cut but they've had a lot of turnovers as of late it seems. Got a cut from an unfamiliar face and it was absolutely terrible. I wasn't too ticked off about that, I can get it fixed whatever. What really ticked me off is that he lied about the price of the cut. I asked how much it was to figure out what to tip him and this guy told me $30. No beard trim or anything, just a cut and a fade. For clarity, you can only pay with cash here. There are no signs that tell the prices of anything, although previously there was before their big remodeling. Perhaps they took it down and removed the ability to tip and pay with a card so they could scam people like this. read more

This used to be our new favorite spot since we just moved to the area but we won't be back after today. We walked in (I was bringing my 2 sons in for a haircut) not a single person greeted us. I know typically someone says hi and asks if you have an apt but not a single word today. The young lady that works there came up to us shortly after and interacted with my daughter and then she went onto sweep. I know this is no fault of her own as she probably assumed we had an apt since someone should've cleared that up when we walked in. Anyways several more people came in which I know some had apts. However there were TWO people that came in after us that in fact did not have apts and were helped. The owner went through an entire line of gentleman and asked if they had an apt (skipped asking me) and then went to a new walk in and said ok I can help you. It was poor business to not ask us if we had an apt even if you already assumed we were asked, if doesn't hurt to ask again. We spent over 45 minutes there and then left and also no one bothered to say anything when we left as well. To me, the way you're treated is almost more important than the haircut itself. read more
