Let's start with the good: The hotel team are friendly and thoughtful. The Manager, Brian, even allocated a dining room to me to take a long meeting, which was just awesome. Rooms are clean, and the hotel is charming. They are clearly leaning in on the old school vibe, and we were digging it. Considerations: The old elevator is super cool and vintage, but we took it only when required with luggage. Neat experience but made me nervous every time I used it. YMMV on this one! The hotel could use some upgrades and modernization which would mix old with new: Many switches with no connected lights, upgrade of in room phones and rework of electrical outlet options. The back steps are a bit steep, but it was not at all a problem for me and my husband on the 2nd floor. Finally, the location is terrific. Greensboro is not large, and staying downtown gives you access to all the areas. Biltmore is in an awesome spot. Try Natty Greeen's and Cheesecakes by Alex! They're literally around the corner. In summary: The hotel could use some freshening but it is super clean. The staff and vibe is very cool, and location is pretty great overall (down the block from Natty Greene's!).

The best part, though, is the fact that the location of this hotel is right where you want to be, steps away from all the food, coffee and bars on S Elm and a two block walk to Amtrak. There's a wine hour (and the gal at the front desk even offered to bring some out after I missed it) as well as breakfast (also missed that). I can't imagine staying elsewhere when in Greensboro.

It was impossible not the clear my plate. I recommend getting a side of bacon and adding a bacon crumble to the dish. It was great without the bacon but obviously bacon makes everything so much better. The service was great too. Our server constantly checked up on us and was really nice. Only thing to be mindful of is that they have a very limited assortment of drinks. When we went it was only water, sweet tea (no unsweet tea), and strawberry lemonade.

After 20 minutes with no server acknowledgment and no water, we watched a party be seated after us and then served right away. No apology, no explanation. This was not acceptable and we ended up leaving. I wanted to love this experience and support a historic local business, but being overlooked with no acknowledgment was very disappointing, poor customer service. Maybe this was an off day for them or maybe they're just use to their regulars I don't know but based on the experience we had, it is definitely not a recommended spot.

Now that my niece has graduated, we technically have no reason to visit High Point anymore -- but honestly, a return trip would be worth it just for another stay at the Manor. The home is cute and up to date in the small little town of Madison. It is the perfect location to their Main Street where our friends wedding was. The couple that own the home are so friendly and overly accommodating. They went out of their way to make our few hours there perfect. We arrived early in the morning so we could see the town and do a little shopping. Our room was ready by 10:30 when we called. We were greeted by three friendly cocker spaniels, who get to roam the house freely which should be noted if you aren't a dog person or are allergic but we didn't mind. We had the opportunity to choose the room we wanted (I am totally blanking on names right now) and we're offered the larger bathroom since we needed to get ready for a wedding. We decided on our original room for the space. Everything was clean and had that "mommas house" smell. The one where the linens are freshly pressed and the towels are hot out of the dryer. We made some small talk and were offered a tray of water and some fresh fruit! We were also given food advice as we were starving from our drive and we ended up at Fuzzys bbq. Her husband, John, was just as accommodating. He offered coffee, bottled water and several snacks for our trip home! They were so kind and I highly suggest supporting this couples BnB. If we ever get the chance to go back we def will!

We did not know much about the area, or the history of the house. The hosts were wonderful and so very accommodating. They provided lots of detail of what is available in the area and details on the house history. We were able to tour every room. I asked where they placed the Christmas tree, as this cozy, inviting place would be perfect around the holidays. Turns out, they place several trees. Also, would consider a late spring/summer stay as there is a beautiful backyard with in-ground pool. Look forward to future stays.

I appreciate that everything is on one level (no sleeping in a loft where you crack your head sitting up in bed) and that the bathroom is surprisingly large, particularly the shower. There is a single sink, so kitchen and bathing uses are combined into one facility. I guess one of the casualties of this design is any comfortable seating space to read, etc. There are two wooden chairs at the small desk/table, but the only suitable place to read indoors would be the bed (which has a firm but comfortable mattress). The outdoor space is nice provided the weather cooperates. Other cabins are close enough that you can probably hear incidental noise, but people are far enough away that you should get peace and quiet unless people in a neighboring unit get out of control. There's a peaceful pond with a path around most of it. Having walked the compound, I think it would be worth it to pay the nominal extra amount for one of the "view" cabins that would overlook the pond. The zoo is very close by, and downtown Asheboro is about 10 minutes away.

For 2-person seating you're sat against a wall and the chairs are facing the interior of the room instead of straight across from each other which is more relaxing. It's hard to find a good afternoon tea at this price point (actually it's the first I've ever come across) and even though it's in kind of a random area of Greensboro it's totally worth the excursion.

As I've done most of the afternoon teas available in the Triangle area, I am not branching out to the Triad. Afternoon tea at O Henry came highly recommended to me by people I know in real life and rightfully so! Afternoon tea at O Henry is served in the lobby of the hotel when you first walk in. They have clusters of seating all over, and they do get booked out so be sure to make your reservation ahead of time. For the tea, they have a few different tiers but I've always opted for the full O. Henry Tea. It's still only $22 which is such an accessible price point as I'm used to afternoon teas costing easily double! It's a hearty and proper tea, and they will refill your pot too. I can't wrap up the review without commenting on the excellent service. Every time I've come for the afternoon tea, I am impressed by the warm welcome and attentive service by all of the staff I interact with. This afternoon tea is one I will repeat time and time again!

There was complimentary wine and snacks upon arrival, and breakfast in the morning (strangely limited breakfast hours however, considering that it was basically just continental food that could sit out). The robes and sheets were amazing quality, very soft and comfortable. There is also a very nice sunroom to relax in. The location is perfect, very easy to walk to anything on or near the universitys campus
