Love it here, overall very convenient and the selection of produce and meat is amazing. The staff…read moreis friendly and helpful. BUT be careful to check the expiration dates, something one really shouldn't have to worry about. Just today, tomatillos were rotting, even the onions were in bad shape. I purchased some pita bread the other day that turned out to be moldy which I didn't notice until I got home. Would easily be 5 stars for me if not the apparent expiration issues.

I also love the bulk spice section and speciality hot sauces. Definitely more of a specialty food store or if you're in a pinch and forgot an item for cooking a meal. In the last year they've done a ton of great updates to the store: fresh paint, shelves, and produce bins. Not the biggest fan of the self-checkout since I feel like this neighborhood grocery benefitted from the personal touch of the cashiers. There are still a couple cashiers but they went from 4 cashiers to 2 and added 4 self checkouts. A little bit more expensive for staples but they have an amazing selection of prepared items for a to-go lunch or dinner. Quality meats at the meat and deli counters and a fun craft beer selection. Sometimes we gather meats and cheeses for a charcuterie board from here too. I also love their discount section at the back past the dairy coolers. I always get a day old bread and other food items they've discounted.

Ever since coming back in April from a long hiatus, I vowed to cook my own food as much as…read morepossible. One of the main dishes that I really love is Chicken Shawarma. I took to the internet to find a recipe that I could follow. I found one that was promising with very simple ingredients. The main one is Garam Masala. I cooked chicken shawarma when I was out of Michigan and it was good! So I figured I'll do it again here. I even got a little more ambitious and prepared myself a Mediterranean garlic sauce with it to boot! One problem though: where in this neighborhood could I buy garam masala. I called a store that would remain nameless that advertised they "now sell middle eastern cuisine" but, after the phone call, I realize they do NOT sell SPICES - just the cuisine. Go figure. Suddenly, I remembered that everytime I go visit Burger King on 10 mile and Ryan there is a little inconspicuous store behind it that advertises they sell Middle Eastern spices. Since it is only a short drive from my place, I thought I'd check it out. As I went through the door, I was greeted by a soft spoken man who kindly asked me if he could help me find something. When I told him I'm looking for garam masala, he said they have several. He started taking out packets of cumin, curry, etc. thinking that i want to MIX my own garam masala (which one could DO btw).I told him that I am looking for one that is already mixed. He told me that he had two packets left somewhere. Frankly, I didn't think he had so I just took my time looking around the store and found out they have ALL KINDS of Middle Eastern spices, soup, etc. and took a mental note where to go in case I need something else in the future. It took but two minutes when the man handed me a packet. Lo and behold on the front of the packet was the label "Garam Masala." Long story short, I got my fix of home-cooked Mediterranean food without having to drive to Bucharest Grill in Detroit! I'm posting the picture of the said chicken shawarma on my profile. It DID taste as good as it looked! ;) All thanks to this store for the main ingredient! THIS would be my go-to store for all things middle eastern from now on. I WILL be back!

AMAZING food. I think about it everyday! A must try and the people are beyond nice!!!read more
