The one star is for the manager who yelled at me to leave aisle one when I was about to unload my groceries to go to aisle 9 or 10 for the sake of giving the new cashiers a training opportunity. It was a poor decision and there was no apology. Being accosted for any reason as a customer is unpleasant. The staff that supports the deli, seafood, and butcher area are always nice and helpful. They have a good selection of wine, cheese, and licorice. However, there are better grocery stores out there that don't make mistakes like the new manager here. read more

This was our first time at this market. We always pass it, but have never stopped by. On the way home from Ferndale we wanted to pick up some ice cream that is not typically sold at Kroger or Meijer and thought they would have it, and they did. We got Milk Bar, Van Leeuwen, and Tillamook ice cream sandwiches. While this place is more expensive, I like the selection of specialty items you cannot always find at other stores. Their prepared food section looked really good, I would like to try that some time. I also liked their plant section at the front, they had adorable decorations and a nice variety. read more

Our local, smaller version of "Whole Foods" that is same quality and same type of prices. But you get what you pay for and this HIGH quality almost makes it worth it. Huge fresh fruit department. Almost as big fresh flowers area. If you can't find a cheese you like in their cheese department, than you are too picky. Lots of meals that you can take home either hot or reheat. Singles and couples could stock up on week days suppers so when you work late food is home to reheat. While prices seem high, it is still cheaper than restraunt meals of same quality. I come about once a month to treat myself to quiche, sushi, desserts, and hot soup. Last stop was to stock up before a snow storm and even though the parking lot was full, they had plenty of customer service personal and store itself easy to get around. I really love Westborn Market. I like the can-do atmosphere as well as the fresh produce, enchanting bakery, delicious deli counter, and sharp-looking meat counter! I appreciate the staff at WM. Having shopped on a WEEKLY basis at Berkley's Westborn Market for decades I have to say - this will be my last. I was there Sunday, May 12 (Mother's Day) for just a few last minute Items. While checking out I witnessed the store manager and the floral manager engage in a shouting match for all to hear. So unprofessional. While the store manager never seemed in tune with his customers, the floral manager has had an ego of all egos. I've purchased enough over the years from the floral department and this woman (Nicole) not a friendly, accommodating bone in her body. When are the owners going to WAKE UP and realize they are a 'customer driven' business. She is DRIVING customers away! Horrible customer service! read more

I have to say I love this grocery store. It is expensive but you get what you pay for. Meat is good quality and love the preseasoned options- they have a really good preseasoned apple pork that cooks up great. Love the flank steak too. And their crab cakes are really good from the seafood section. They have great produce options and some fresh juice- orange and grapefruit. They have a soup section- always multiple good options. And there's an area with fresh olives, artichokes and other great appetizer options good for snacking or bringing to a party. Their ready made food is a go to. Love all their premade chicken salad- one typically has dried cherries and the other grapes- really makes it flavorful. And I LOVE the eggplant rollitini- crispy eggplant, tasty tomato sauce, and thin noodles with pesto inside. They also have a lot of good local items, quality beer and wine, and a good selection of deserts that look very fancy and are great for an event or party. Highly recommend. read more

This is a fancier grocery store / market. It's similar to Papa Joe's in terms of selection, quality and pricing. The back half of the store gets considerable foot traffic. The quality of the produce, selection of craft beer, and homemade tomato basil soup solidify it. It's also difficult to return home without a new houseplant, as the options are vast and well-priced. Minus a star for store layout and price point compared to competitors, though. I would give them 0 stars if there were any option. The hummus section has 6 boxes with green mold growing on the hummus. We got french rolls from their bakery which they say is fresh with stocking done everyday. The French rolls went bad overnight with green mold growing over it. Just terrible! read more

I love the aromatic smell of coffee and they have a great produce area. But I feel like items are all over the place and it's nearly impossible to find anything because nothing is organized in any practical manner at all. I sometimes get a bit frustrated when I am walking through here and though I know they have a lot, it's nonsensical how food items are placed. I like their gf section, but it's rather scant. They have a decent cheese section but I tend to still have to go back to Holiday market for specialty items. I would love a one stop shop for anything special and basic as far as grocery items goes. I think their bakery section looks good and is pricey but I have never liked their scones, cannolis or cookies that much. I want to like this place more because I do like the one in Dearborn, which is close to my office. read more

I usually come here for the hot meals, they have a really good selection and some of the sides are healthy but this place has gone downhill quickly in my opinion. I'm slightly confused why they offer a salad bar if it's completely destroyed while the business is still operating. I've came in and it looks as if a high school football team who hasn't had a meal in 12 hours had their way with it. I've also noticed that when I have came in for a hot dinner Togo they are out of everything and only have sloppy, crusty looking sides left. Meanwhile the entire kitchen staff is standing around. The kitchen looks dirty and unkept, I ordered some cold salmon, and when I got home and opened the container the smell was overwhelming of fish I had to throw it out immediately. I have not since eaten anything from this location. It's really a shame because they used to have amazing food and great salad options but I will not eat from a filthy location. The do have a variety of options to choose from in the freezer section and tons of vegetables. This place is adorable. A wonderland of brightly colored produce and delicious scents in all directions. If a farmers market mixed with a Whole Foods with a dash of florist, you'd get Westborn Market. And it's fabulous! Prices are a bit higher, but certainly not unfounded, as I've loved everything I've purchased here. Items that always end up in my basket include a summer pasta salad with spinach and pine nuts, the vegetarian gummy bears which is not a common find, any and all of those beautiful baked goods, and some artisan sea salt butter. The quality of produce is not befitting of a produce market, especially considering you're paying what you would at an actual gourmet market. I bought two bouquets of tulips yesterday from Westborn. When I got home to make my arrangements for Mother's Day I found that 4 out of 10 of the white ones were broken and two had mold all over them. So my 10 tulips were now 4! Very disappointing. Here is what the second batch of tulips look like today. Again, this batch had 3 broken and 1 with mold. I have never had tulips droop this badly especially after only having them for a day. Yes, I gave them a fresh cut and flower food. Sorry to say but I will never buy flowers here again. Trader Joe's is the best! Large parking lot off busy Woodward Ave, there is a slight issue where the close in spots get grabbed and traffic snarls even though there is lots of parking 60 yards away. Walking in is a little tight due to the entry area vending and the placement of the carts outdoors. Inside is a huge fruit and veggie sales area, a large flower and plant area, a small side annex for iconic Michigan products, a cramped but varied selection beer and wine area, and a wide selection but cramped feeling section of prepared foods, chocolates, meat, cheese and seafood, all flowing in a back room. Normal grocery type items are crammed into the back of the fruit and veggie area and feel like an afterthought. Not the widest selection. The whole store feels crowded while you are shopping, and the parking thing is annoying. Great quality and selection on everything but grocery staple items read more

Really neat Market, reminds of Wegmans in PA. Totally worth driving from downtown Detroit to shop here. Kind of like a Manhattan style, upscale market. Highly recommend for foodies!
