Holiday is my favorite market to get prepared meals. I recommend stopping by The Smokehouse and trying some of their delicious food. I've tried the salmon, burnt ends, southern white beans, smoked wings, and jalapeno cheddar grits. There is also a selection of healthy food that I also enjoy including salads, sandwiches, seafood, and breakfast food like frittata and deviled eggs. It is a bit pricey but the food tastes fresh and homemade. I come here exclusively to buy ready made meals. The price is worth it because everything bought here is eaten up and enjoyed by my household. It's still cheaper than dining out these days. Service is friendly as well. read more

i have been a fan of Holiday Market since we moved to Royal Oak 18 years ago. Faves include the bulk spices, ice cream selection, and the individual chicken pot pies. Unfortunately, the pies we bought yesterday were not up to the ones we have enjoyed for years. Gone was the tender, shredded white meat chicken, and the accompanying creamy, savory chicken gravy. These pies were had small hard cubes of dark meat, and included a heavily salted and peppered glop. The accompanying gravy was thin and salty. Why mess with perfection? Even as the price grew over the years we still ate the pies. After yesterday, no more Chicken pot pies from Holiday. read more

I ordered a custom cake and went out of my way to ensure that I would get what I wanted by going into the store, showing the lady at the bakery counter the mock up of the cake and having her assist me in filling out the online order form. When I picked up the cake it was not what I ordered and did not look like the photo I submitted. This review is for the bakery. I was in town for an event that required a custom cake. I ordered on line and in the following week, I received two phone calls to make sure they knew what I wanted. I really appreciate that sort of follow through. And then we picked it up and it was gorgeous. The flowers were better than we could have imagined and the cake itself was absolutely delicious. All the guests at the party were commenting about how incredible the cake was. Then, surprisingly, I was given a custom cake for a surprise gathering for my birthday. So I had another Holiday Market cake this week. This one was vanilla in contrast to the chocolate one I ordered. Wow. Really fantastic Funfetti style. And then, the bakery was able to design the cake to match my favorite sports car design called a Porsche Gulf Livery; so it was extra special. First, the good: I have been going to Holiday for 35+ years. The staff is still polite. Now, the current state: I have moved further north in metro Detroit and still have made it a point to come back periodically. The market has really deteriorated. The meat and fish used to be a reason to go. Now it is mostly packaged. Prices are up and quality is down. Store is not as clean as I would expect. Finally, their systems and people are not competent. My last trip ever was there today. I spent an hour with my wife picking out what we needed as our daughter is coming home from college today. Their payment system would not work when I checked out. No credit. No debit. Their solution was to offer me the courtesy to use their atm which is not from my bank. I had no intention of paying two sets of fees to use this. I will not bother driving back here for shopping again. I recommend finding another market. Personally, I will choose ninos. read more

Even though they are a fairly small place, there is a lady that works in wines that knows so much...She can take your palate choices and find many wines that youll love, and they have a range of prices. 4) Their fruit selections are best within a 40min radius. I have been a loyal customer of Holiday Market for a long time and have always appreciated the store's quality and atmosphere. Unfortunately, after my recent experience, I will no longer be shopping here and feel compelled to share what happened. On April 19th, I purchased several items for Easter dinner, including a cake with a sell-by date of April 20th and queso cheese that, unbeknownst to me, had already expired on April 6th. On Easter Day, I discovered that the cake was completely dried out with a freezer-burnt taste, and the cheese was clearly spoiled. I called the store and was told to bring the items back on my next visit. When I returned on April 26th, I was treated incredibly poorly by Cheryl, a store manager. Instead of assisting me as any professional establishment would, she immediately accused me of trying to return old product dishonestly. She questioned why I didn't have a Holiday Market loyalty card -- something I had never been offered information about since I've been shopping there. Then, she proceeded to ask whether I paid with credit card or EBT, implying something highly inappropriate and offensive. As a local attorney, I found the assumption degrading -- and frankly, even if I were someone using EBT, it would not have justified the interrogation I was subjected to. I treated Cheryl with respect and courtesy throughout the entire experience, but Cheryl then walked me around the store to inspect other cheeses, insinuating that I was being dishonest. She took away the bag I brought the items in, claiming it looked "suspicious." I was confused because it was simply a paper bag -- no different than a purse or reusable grocery bag that customers carry every day. It was clear she had already made up her mind about me. Even when I attempted to exchange the cake, I was refused a proper replacement or store credit unless I paid extra for an upgraded item -- despite the original product being spoiled. At checkout, I was approached again about not having a receipt or loyalty card, even after explaining my situation multiple times. Fortunately, the cashier who had helped me on April 19th remembered me and vouched for my purchase, but the damage had already been done. I also felt as though I was being unfairly targeted during this experience, and it's hard to ignore the possibility that my treatment may have been influenced by being a family of color. While I cannot say for certain, the assumptions made and the way I was treated left me feeling singled out and disrespected in a way that was both unprofessional and hurtful. The way I was treated was degrading, disrespectful, and entirely unacceptable -- especially from a store that has long prided itself on community and customer service. Sadly, this experience shows a complete failure of professionalism and basic courtesy. Holiday Market has lost a loyal customer, and I would strongly caution others to be aware of how issues are handled here. While I would never ever do my weekly grocery shopping, anytime I am near and will be going home after, I stop. I love the choices of fresh flowers that seem to last longer than ones I get elsewhere. I also get individual quiches and entrees for some weekday meals. While the bakery prices are higher, I always find cupcakes and cookies that need to come home. I wish they still carry the Sidney Bogs chocolate, but they do carry other premium brands. If you are looking for fresh fish or deli, they have the largest counters I have seen in my travels. Catering service: The beef filet was good but delivered on a plastic tray so the entire tray had to be moved to my own dish to be heated. No one wanted to eat filet cold! I love salads and I was a regular at the salad bar but I did have some concerns that I discussed with the workers. 1. If you have on gloves and are touching everything people are touching without gloves you are contaminating people's food when mixing up the salad with the same gloves on also when cleaning up before serving a customer you must change gloves because chemicals are on the gloves and can be harmful. 2. When you glap a bowl with lots of water and mix the salad with the water the salad becomes more watery and is not good for later on to eat. My 2 requests were clean gloves I see you put on and a dry bowl. They absolutely hated to see me coming because some people hate to follow rules. People nowadays are annoyed by customers' requests. Well with the cost of everything going up and workers' poor attitude when you request something specially. It's not worth paying extra money for something you can just do yourself. The manager Jason should be fired as the disparaging responses he gave me when I tried to return a product my friend bought me as a Christmas gift. The cake I got was chocolate with buttercream in the design of a gerbera daisy. It was moist and fresh. They do custom cakes for events, like showers & weddings, as well. The first time I've been to Holiday Market was 3 months ago, and I unfortunately didn't take any photos, but do have some feedback about the service and contents of the market itself! Service: 5/5; The employees were extremely friendly and welcoming. Whenever we needed help finding a certain item, there was always someone to help out & they did so in a kind manner. From the outside, this store doesn't look like much. Inside though, this local grocery store is massive and has a wide variety of grocery items! They're especially known for their cakes. I've stopped in here a handful of times on my way home from work off of the 696 freeway before you hit downtown Royal Oak. Not once have I been disappointed in the produce, dry goods or alcohol selection that I've come in to get. The inside reminds me of an IKEA a little bit, where you walk a path to find all of your things. This makes it really easy to make sure you don't forget anything. The store is priced pretty well in related to other markets. Cake wise, we've had a few get brought in for a work birthday and they've been phenomenally tasty. I swear I couldn't be happier with this place! I have been going here since I was a kid and still do to this day. My fiancé and I have officially placed our wedding cake order!! I came here because I wanted the best for myself, my husband to be and all our guests and I knew this was the place. We have been working with Michael Lupo who is the wedding cake consultant. We ordered a cake tasting kit and of course everything was amazing like always!! We have a 4 layer cake. 2 layers will be cherry chip cake with chocolate mousse filling and the other two layers are chocolate cake with cherry mousse filling. The picture that we sent him was made with fondant so Michael suggested to go with buttercream frosting so we are going with a buttercream frosting! Fondant is much harder with work with and doesn't taste as good. So I know our cake will be amazing!! Michael is awesome and has been in contact with us throughout this process. Our cake ends up costing around $900.00. But I can already say it's gonna be totally worth it. The best cake around for the best bride and groom!
