My fiancée suffered a severe shellfish allergic reaction and, before coming to Memorial, had visited another hospital's Emergency Room five times between June 14 and August 8, 2026, without finding relief. As a healthcare professional herself, she was especially frustrated because she was not receiving the same level of care and compassion that she provides to her own patients every day. From the moment we arrived at Memorial, the difference was obvious. Everyone we encountered from the moment the doors opened for us was exceptional. Every staff member treated us with kindness, professionalism, and genuine concern for her well-being. Special thanks to Judith in Valet Services for her warm welcome, Theresa in Triage for her compassion and attentiveness, Major for his exceptional care, Dr. Peters for his expertise and treatment, and Angela in Finance for her patience and kindness. I would also like to recognize a wonderful woman in Patient Services whose name I unfortunately did not get. Offering my fiancée a warm blanket may seem like a small gesture, but it meant so much during a stressful and difficult time. Most importantly, Memorial Hospital listened, cared, and helped my fiancée feel better when five prior ER visits elsewhere had failed to resolve her symptoms. Thank you to the entire Memorial Hospital team for providing the compassionate, patient-centered care that every patient deserves. We are truly grateful.

I am extremely disappointed with my recent hospital stay. I want to begin by saying that the nurses…read morewere great, as they always are. They were kind, attentive, and compassionate throughout my stay. Unfortunately, my experience with other members of the hospital staff was completely different. My biggest concern began when I felt that the doctor was not listening to me as a patient or taking seriously what I was physically experiencing with my illness. I know my body, and I was trying to communicate that something was not right. After speaking with a social worker and continuing to advocate for myself, the doctor finally ordered an additional test to determine whether there was another issue that could explain what I was experiencing. While I was waiting for this test and for the doctor to determine a plan that would allow me to safely go home with something to help control my headaches, I had an extremely upsetting interaction with a social worker named Maria. Her approach made me feel as though the hospital bill was more important than my health, my well-being, and what I was physically going through. The first time Maria entered my room, she did not properly introduce herself or explain what department she was from. I had to ask one of the nurses for her name. When she came back to my room a second time, she finally identified herself, but her attitude and the way she addressed me were very unprofessional. During our first interaction, she asked whether I was staying or leaving. I attempted to explain that the doctor's plan was to find something I could safely go home on that would help control my headaches and that I was still planning to leave that same day. Before I could finish explaining the plan of care, she rudely interrupted me and began discussing the possibility of me being responsible for the bill if I stayed. I explained that I had already spoken with another caseworker who had gone over the situation with me, so I understood what could happen financially. Her response to me was essentially, "If you want to pay the bill, that's fine with me." I found this response extremely insensitive and inappropriate, especially considering that I was a patient who was still sick, in pain, and waiting for additional testing. The interaction became even more upsetting when she made another comment about me paying the bill as she walked out of my room. Shortly afterward, someone came into my room and handed me paperwork regarding the bill. At that point, I was so frustrated and upset by how the entire situation had been handled that I threw the paperwork away. My concern is not simply about receiving a bill. I understand that hospitals have financial policies and procedures that must be followed. My issue is with the lack of compassion, professionalism, and respect shown when communicating those policies to a patient who is actively dealing with a medical issue. There is a time, place, and appropriate way to discuss financial responsibility without making a patient feel as though money matters more than whether they are medically stable or feeling better. It is very sad when a patient leaves a hospital feeling as though the priority was whether the bill would be paid rather than whether the treatment they received actually helped them. Patients come to hospitals because they are sick, scared, in pain, and looking for help. They deserve to be heard by their doctors and treated with dignity and compassion by every member of the hospital staff. Again, I truly appreciate the nurses who cared for me. They were wonderful. However, the lack of communication from the doctor and, especially, the dismissive and insensitive interaction I experienced with Maria significantly affected my overall hospital experience. No patient should be made to feel that their financial responsibility is more important than their physical well-being while they are still actively receiving care.

One of our family members donated a kidney, and we are so grateful that the surgery was successful. A special thank you to Dr. Linda Chen for always reassuring us and making us feel confident that everything would be okay. Ms. Michelle Gascon, Dr. Edson Franco, Dr. Seyed, Dr. Basit Javaid, and Charmaine, the pharmacist, for taking the time to monitor his recovery and making sure he was doing well every step of the way. Thank you to all of the social workers for your kindness, guidance, and support throughout this journey. To all the nurses and PCAs on the 8th floor, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. During the almost three days we stayed there, you made us feel comfortable and cared for. You were always checking on him, making sure his pain was under control, answering our questions, and making sure we had everything we needed. A special thank you to Kristine and the two Filipinas nurses on the 8th floor. I apologize for not remembering everyone's names, but your kindness and attention to detail meant so much to us. Thank you for always checking on him, making sure everything in his chart was correct, and treating him with genuine care. To everyone we met along the way, thank you for your professionalism, compassion, and dedication. You do more than provide medical care, you bring comfort and hope to families during some of the most challenging moments of their lives. We will never forget the kindness you showed us. Thank you, and may God bless each and every one of you.

Yay, another visit to Memorial to see the newest addition to our family, our Grand-daughter. Always…read moresomething when we have to go here. Today it was transportation. I digress. Wife has a bum foot from a fall, she's on crutches. The walk from the main entrance, to the elevators, then to the 4th floor and another long walk is painful currently. After doing it on Sunday and Security giving her grief because all she wanted to do was sit in the lobby while I parked the car was bullshit. But back to yesterday. I called the transportation department and spoke with Chloe, described the challenge of walking all that way on a bum foot with crutches. She stated, "No Problem. Have security call us and we'll send someone right out to get her and take her up." Cool. We got ready and headed to the Hospital. Dropped her off and she went inside to ask while I parked the car. I get there, can see it on her face that trouble is brewing. She tells me Security told her 45 minutes for a chair. So I reached out to Chloe again. She literally hung up on me. Wife got annoyed, so, we made the long trek again with her on her crutches. Having to stop every 30 feet or so due to pain. On the way to the main elevators, I asked no less than 5 employees wheeling empty wheelchairs for assistance. Every single one of them declined to assist, said it was against policy. You have to call. I DID! Against policy to assist a person in need. That pretty much sums up our experience with Memorial over the years. I reached out to Fed, the person who handles transportation for the hospital. That conversation felt like all the rest. Out concerns were just no big deal. And the worst part, he said that he spoke to one of the employees we asked for assistance on the walk. They said they offered help but we declined. Liars. If there was another option to go to, trust me when I say we would. Unfortunately Memorial has a monopoly on care in this area. So if you have to use them, realize you'll probably end up writing a negative review like this. And if you have a good experience, count your blessings . . . Many of us don't!
