Mezcal pouring at the fabulous edible insect feast
    Barbara S.

I attended my first event at The Headlands Center for the Arts last week. It was the 5-course artesenal insect meal and mezcal pairing. I really didn't think I'd eat any bugs, but evidently a little crack was open in that door, as by the 3rd course I was chowing them down like there was no tomorrow. The whole event was wonderful, from start to finish. The people there had a GREAT vibe. I had never been to the facility at all before this. This location is visually stunning in a pastoral canyon sort of way. It seems like another country there in a good way. Very quiet and serene and there is just this great energy all around--from the people who volunteer, to those in the arts, to the artistic way these old army buildings are presented. Every nook and cranny is a major photo op. Kudos to everyone involved in this fabulous organization! This institution is a valentine to the arts.

the place is filled with gorgeous light!

My biggest tip is to bring a lunch, hang out by the shore, and just chill for a bit. There are so many fun play structures where kids can run around and get all their energy out. They also have smaller play areas and different activities for younger children. I took my son when he was one, right when he was starting to walk, and he was still able to appreciate so much of it. I also think the parents will enjoy this place. I'm not sure if it's the views or the fact that there's lots places to unwind, but I found it one of the more relaxing spots to frequent as a parent. If you do not bring your own food, their options are surprisingly great. We were really impressed to see they have vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, and dairy free options. They also offer discounted tickets if you are on SNAP/EBT or military personnel, which is awesome. Now that my son is older, I am definitely planning to head back soon. They have all kinds of fun programming like bubble bashes and Halloween events. It is truly one of those places you never get tired of coming back to.

I knew in advance that on Thursdays (2nd & 4th weeks only), the public street parking in front of the building was off limits for street sweeping/no parking between 7am-11am, so I got very lucky pulling up in front at 11am sharp. Nice. Easy walk. The Foster Museum was very simple, decent, positive, and relaxing environment filled with gorgeous nature views/sketches/watercolor artworks by the U.K. artist, Tony Foster. Good feeling here. Free admissions and good customer service staffs. You can just walk in or register online. There's a tiny gift area not far from the public restrooms. I signed the guestbook at the end of my walk. Good place to hang around/includes unlimited paper, paper/pencils/samples/etc. If you like to sketch and get some creative inspirations, all the nature artworks in the gallery is definitely a good place to start. Not huge, but perfectly quite and calm for art lovers. You can request for an orientation and/or tour as desired. Great first impression during first visit. It's the positive feeling I get from observing the energy and various colorful artworks. Simple and stress-free. Good value/free admissions is totally worth the 1-2 hours here. They also host art classes too, but I will need to take time to browse around online. Good vibes. Staffs are friendly inside. Hidden place. Love it.

I also have one called, "Chili Peppers" that I love. More importantly is how I came to own these. Shortly after I was married in late 2001 to a beautiful artist, we were in bed looking at different art magazines and I came across one with a painting by Daniel. I was enthralled. Over a few weeks my wife and I decided we would go to San Francisco and up to Portland and Seattle. I wondered what would happen if I reached out to Daniel. He responded and was more than gracious to us. When we got into SF, he invited us to his home and we were able to see large projects in the making and multiple paintings he had that were ready for sale. One was Euphoria. It had been painted years before but he believed it was harder to sell due to prurient views some had of mild nudity. What truly stood out though was Daniel as a human being. Art was truly his passion and people were his other passion. We were treated as if we were old friends. I have purchased other art from other artists, and I have commissioned art. These two will be in my heart forever. Daniel, thank you for a moment in time! It is still cherished decades later.

I enjoyed that they had puzzles and other less expensive options as well. Highly recommend taking a look through if you're in Sausalito!
