When you enter it is through the CUTE gift shop. We didn't listen to the tour as we had small ones with short attention spans. We did visit everything! Many educational displays! You can touch skins and see skeletons. We learned about the center and the marine hospital.. Here they rescue injured and sick marine life and nurse them back to health, how crazy awesome is that? At the viewing area where you can see the patients they have binoculars so you can get a good look. The day we were there, just a few were waiting to be released back into the wild. Which is wonderful, still less fun for the kiddos. We will absolutely be back! Another reason to love this area;)

Once the tour got started we listened to how many different types of seals the center accommodated with rescues that were elephant seals, harbor seals, California sea lions and on occasion otters. We had a chance to see some of the patients from an elevated platform. The volunteers also made the animals' food, ran the gift shop and of course were our tour guides. Because the place thrives largely on donations, we bought plenty from the gift shop including stuffed seals, whales, magnets, snow globes, and stickers. Fun free place to bring the kiddos, not to mention the beautiful views you see in and out of the way.

The evening I decided it was time to drop the backpacks filled w/ school supplies off, I was amazed to see the generous hearts that was there before me; I saw huge piles and piles of backpacks... I'm not there to help everyone because realistically I can't but if I can make someone smile and not have to worry about the expenses of getting a backpack and school supplies then it's definitely worth it. The three stars are for my experience at an event. It looks like a great place to take kids to…read morelearn about the environment and animals, etc. I would give it an extra star for the gorgeous views. It loses stars for the reasons stated below. For a more formal event, it's not ideal for older people especially. (those over 80 and those with any disability) There is a somewhat steep and uneven slope down to the Yurt area where the ground is flat but again, uneven and covered with hay. This caused shoes and feet to be covered in dust soon after arriving. This would be ok if wearing proper sneakers or others made for walking on that type of surface. Wearing the clothes we did, gave us no protection from ticks which the website indicated are prevalent there. In addition, the only restrooms are porta potties. This is a little rustic for a formal event and not so easy for people in wheel chairs. There is no lighting on this path back up to the parking lot. This is entirely unsafe after the sun has gone down. All of that said, I would recommend this venue for a school field trip where students are dressed appropriately and are visiting during daylight hours. I would not, however, recommend it for a formal event.
