I love, love, love craftsman style buildings and it felt like such an honor to get married in a Julia Morgan building (she designed Hearst Castle). For my husband and I, the beauty and intimate feel of the venue far outweighed all the other inconveniences of the place (i.e. having to arrange a shuttle for guests due to limited parking and having to be out by 10pm). We had a small wedding (60 guests) and the size of the venue felt perfect for it. Our ceremony was outdoors in mid-July and the reception was indoors. We started early because we knew we'd have to end early. So we had the ceremony at 2:30pm and because we rented out the place the next morning for cleanup, we didn't leave until 9:55pm. I also appreciated the huge and gorgeous bridal suite upstairs. My mom, sister and I got ready there in the morning and the view was so relaxing. It also served a nice private room for my wedding guests who were nursing mothers. I worked closely with Susan Cullen who is the current event coordinator and she was fantastic. She responded very quickly to my emails and patiently answered a million of my questions. She also gave some very helpful suggestions about table arrangements and where to put the buffet, etc. It was a shame that Susan Cullen wasn't the event coordinator the day of. The woman who was the event coordinator (I can't remember her name) was very sour and totally unhelpful. She looked offended when I asked her to help me light some candles on the tables! She is basically the "fun police" - asking you to turn the music down, etc. But she will drink your alcohol and eat your food without doing anything for you in return. If you can ignore the nuisance of a totally useless "event coordinator" and ask someone else to deal with her, the site is totally worth it. My friends and family were also very in love with the place - we got so many compliments on it! My photographer also loved it. It looked great in photographs! read more

After looking at several venues in the Bay Area, we selected the Sausalito Woman's Club for our wedding the first week of September. The club is a special place for our family; my grandmother is a member so I have fond memories of coming to the club for events. It's absolutely charming; Julia Morgan's simple, craftsman architecture, the beautiful gardens and views of the bay make this historical landmark a truly wonderful event space. I worked very closely with a club member on the planning, design and logistics. She offered so many great suggestions, including valuable input into the floor-plan to maximize flow and comfort, guidance on different types of floral and decor possibilities and the best location for the cake to insure it was a focal point, but out of reach to children. More importantly, she went out of her way to meet us at the club for several walk-throughs and even accommodated some early vendor deliveries. Truly couldn't have done this without her guidance and support...thank you again, Susan! We had a short ceremony outside in the garden with the reception indoors. Definitely recommend the club for weddings under 120 guests; we had 87 guests and still had enough room to dance and comfortably move around to access the bar, buffet and restrooms. Many of our guests commented on the loveliness of the space and the beautiful views. Everyone enjoyed themselves, and didn't seem to mind taking a shuttle to/from their cars (as the club doesn't have any parking). read more

We had our wedding ceremony and reception at the beautiful Sausalito Woman's Club--a hidden gem of a space nestled high in the hills above the town. It's a Julia Morgan designed building that inherently provides a warm and welcoming ambience that doesn't require a lot added decor. The small outdoor grounds offered a charming setting for our ceremony and cocktail hour as well as stunning views of the neighborhood and the Bay. It was an absolute pleasure to work with Marjorie Thomas, the new Rental Chair, as she was very communicative, kind and helpful with all of our needs. We were grateful to have her as our liaison between us and the club. A few key details to note: - The space is perfect for a 75-100 guest wedding (120 guests is their max). - Since the club is located in a residential neighborhood, they require that you hired a shuttle service if your event is larger than 40 guests. -The club also requires that you use their security guard and their coordinator to monitor your event to ensure that nothing gets out of control. If you're considering renting this space for your wedding, I would make sure that you speak with the Rental Chair prior to your wedding day to decide the best spot for their coordinator to hang out--just to ensure that she doesn't intrude upon your space. - You should also hire your own day-of event coordinator to help facilitate communication between all vendors. We found this role to be extremely helpful as it make our wedding run really smoothly. My daughter and her husband found this beautiful venue for their October 2018 Wedding. It was a perfect Fall Day - sunny without a cloud in the sky. The views from the club are outstanding. They held their ceremony and cocktail hour on the front patio area. We moved inside for a beautiful reception. It's absolutely charming; Julia Morgan's simple, craftsman architecture, the beautiful gardens and views of the bay make this historical landmark a truly wonderful event space. I think we had around 80 guests and because of the layout of the building it was perfect. We even had a live band playing on stage and a dance floor. I am so shocked by these reviews. I had an early evening party with about 100 people at this club in February 2010. It could not have been more beautiful. Views of the city, beautiful garden, fully equipped stage for talent, movies etc. in a wonderfully restored Julia Morgan clubhouse. They also have a kitchen that is gorgeous! You feel like you are in a different place in time. The event just flowed. The layout of the clubhouse is perfect and feels intimate and spacious at the same time. The rental person was very clear with us what the restrictions were and could not have been more helpful. I would highly recommend this for an afternoon event, even corporate event. I had a beautiful wedding and reception at the SWC in January 2009 (and the weather was spring-like, believe it or not! Just gorgeous.). The club is a warm, inviting, magical place that your guests will not want to leave. You could get away with no decorations- the place is lovely on its own thanks to Julia Morgan's glorious design and the SWC's careful upkeep. The dressing room upstairs has absolutely stunning views and it is a delightful space for getting ready on your big day. I did not think that I would be a relaxed bride (lol), but there is something about the place that just puts you to ease and makes you feel wonderful. If you are looking for an elegant venue (with a perfect dance floor, by the way) with charm and history, then this is the place. Couples who want an all night party with loud music should truly look elsewhere. I worked with Carolyn Ford and she is a dream! She partners with you, and she is extremely accessible. She is very friendly, prompt, and thoughtful. She was really perfect, and I hope she stays. BTW: All of the SWC women who assisted with the wedding were very sweet and gracious. I'd love to join the club one day. : ) The SWC does have some rules (time restrictions, music decibel, parking), but Carolyn does work with you and you can have your elegant dream wedding if you stay within boundaries. It was not a big deal. I used pureluxurylimo for shuttling guests from the parking area to the SWC (a 5 minute or less drive), and it worked perfectly because the guests did not have to deal with driving through the narrow streets. Another big plus: the rental covers more than just your wedding day- you can load things in the day before and come back the morning after. The SWC was a wonderful place for my wedding. If I had to choose again, the SWC would be my first pick. The guests were truly thrilled with the place, and my new husband and I received so many compliments. It was very important to me to have happy guests, and this was achieved! The SWC was an extraordinary venue for a very special day. read more

We got married here in June 2008. This venue is beautiful, especially on a sunny day when you can see the view all around the Bay. Just gorgeous! Our awesome caterer loved the updated, million-dollar kitchen. I loved the upstairs room where the girls got ready (but be prepared with fans if the weather is warm). It was an intimate, warm space for our ~110 person wedding. In other good news - Susan G. has "retired" as the rental coordinator. Thank goodness, because every experience with Susan mentioned by previous reviewers, we encountered too. The new coordinators are much more responsive via email/phone and we considered them quite friendly, if not a little nosy at times. But show a little interest in their lives, smile politely, and I don't think you'll have problems. Just a heads up, they seem new to the business of planning weddings - such as "what's a vendor meal?" But were very open to learn. In addition, a couple of last-minute questions and calls, but that was understandable because I bet Susan left them with nothing to go on. They returned our security deposit very promptly. Cons: - Parking is a major pain around this area (basically "none" though you can grab a few of the "public" spaces in the front), and you have to be out by 9 pm. In retrospect I wished we had picked somewhere where we could have stayed out a little later. - The rental price is reasonable given what fees are around for other sites around the Bay Area, but don't forget that you need to factor in the inconvenience and cost of a shuttle for all your guests that night. This makes the overall fee comparable to what you would pay at a slightly more expensive site. - The site is dusty! Lots of cobwebs and spiders too. Could use a good cleaning. - The on-site coordinator the day of the wedding, Marilyn. Wow, the word SOURPUSS is so appropriate for her. She is there to protect the interests of the Club on the day of your wedding, and while there is a nice way to go about monitoring rules, that's not her style. I felt really bad for my friend who was kindly coordinating our affair who had to deal with her - prepare your vendors to have to deal with a whiny, complainy, annoying, nosy, irritating pest that day. And, I provided a vendor meal for her too. Geesh. I almost wished our bathroom had clogged up (a common complaint) so I could see her go at it (one pro of having her there - it's her job to make sure the facilities are working). - We wanted to have our rehearsal dinner there too, but they turned us down for this request, which I didn't really get, because the contract says the facility is ours for 48 hours. - I think the residents around this area are anal. It was a hot day, so towards the end of the evening guests started to wander outside. Apparently the residents started to complain about noise (at 7 pm) so we were asked to go back inside. I thought this was unreasonable given the time and the weather. I heard also that the residents tattle on the members of the Club for noise levels often as well. If I could have done it all over, I would pick a different site, for convenience and more time. That said, we still had a beautiful wedding and a unforgettable day at a gorgeous venue. read more

My husband and I got married here on May 31st. We had a fabulous time. Everything we asked for was provided. Everyone was very nice. There was a staffing change at the womens club mid way through the planning year but it didn't seem to have an effect on our event. We had about 60 guests and everyone fit comfortably. I would recommend the womens club to anyone. We had a great time! Be prepared for noise regulations on music since you are in a residential neighborhood. It's also good to have a point person for the womens club rep to discuss issues with on the day as she seemed to have no problem interrupting the groom with minor details. We got married here at SWC and the location couldn't be more perfect for us! We had about 80 guests + 9 kids and a full staff working to make the event memorable. We had a short outdoor ceremony and a beautiful reception indoors with light live music (harpist) throughout the night. A great thanks to the staff there who supported us: Camara, Emily, and the security were all very helpful in getting us ready for our special day. We had a shuttle via the overflow parking lot (b/c of limited parking at venue) and that worked out just right. We had so many wonderful raves about the venue and the event!!! May 29-30, 2011 I rented this building for a film shoot and it was a dream. The people from the Club could not have been more accommodating from negotiating the price to me turning in a linen tablecloth that we thought was ours but it was theirs at the end. Everyone connected to the Club was personable, helpful, professional. No detail was too much for them. They run it with care and personality. The place itself has a magical atmosphere. The beautiful building was designed by Julia Morgan! It sits on a hill overlooking San Francisco Bay. There is a feeling of being in Maine in the changing rooms upstairs and downstairs the atmosphere is open and intimate. The space is so flexible. There is a big hall in the center that has gorgeous two story window seat to ceiling windows. There is a stage behind a golden velvet curtain but even that has a set of floor to ceiling windows and could be used in a variety of ways. We fed the crew from their fabulous kitchen with a six burner stove and a cafeteria style refrigerator and all the dishes an event would need. We might have worried about the need for electrical power for our lights but we had no problems. I feared the 16 foot moving truck that brought our sets to the Club would have trouble making it through Sausalito's hilly roads but that was fine, too. And for our small shoot, with a crew of about fifteen people, we had no trouble parking. I hope I have a reason to rent the space again! Thank you Sausalito Woman's Club, Mollie and Susie. The management of the Club must have changed since some of these reviews were written. We had our wedding there in Aug of 2010, hosting 120 people for the ceremony and the reception. The Club members we worked with: Molly, Phyllis, and Laurie were totally wonderful throughout the planning and event. They communicated with us with sensitivity and clarity - just what was needed for planning and hosting a major life event, like a wedding. The venue felt like the incredibly gracious and lovely Julia Morgan home that it is. We held our ceremony outside with our guests seated on the lawn and then moved inside for our reception and dancing. The rich wood and light of the building was the perfect backdrop for our decor - rich and earthy. Molly, especially, was a great resource in all of our planning. She graciously made the club available when we needed to show it to the designer, caterer, minister, etc. The kitchen was perfect for the caterer and staff - spacious and well-equipped for preparing and serving a lovely meal on site. Weddings are always more stressful and expensive than originally expected, ours was no exception. Everyone we dealt with from the initial contact to the security guard was flexible and gracious - easing the stress. The management, lovely facility, and talented designers made our wedding the event and life-time memory we hoped it would be - elegant, comfortable, and very, very fun. read more
