A barber is more important than a girlfriend. Once you find a good one, you can never let them go as a good one will remember the changes in your hair and recommend the best thing to do for you. I've have been coming here since 2012 and although some of the personnel has changed, the one thing that hasn't is the quality of the cut and the personal care provided by Boris and his team (shoutouts to Isaac) Reasonably priced for the area, the service is truly above and beyond with an owner who has a penchant for remembering names, faces and life stories as you walk in. There is a feeling of kinship to be found here and conversations can be often found even between other patrons. First I want to start by saying I was hesitant to even try this spot out. I'm admittedly a bit of a snob when it comes to my hair ( and probably other things as well) I just don't like traditional barbershops - I prefer the more fancy salons that either focus on men's cuts or stylist who can also do men's cuts. But I was moving my car and this spot was right next to my parking spot, AND i didn't feel like paying $60 today for a haircut. So I thought I would give it a shot -- and I'm happy I did! Isaac gave me one of the best cuts if not in my life, definitely that I've had for quite a long time. He asked all the right questions, knew exactly what I wanted without me telling him, but confirmed it with me before he did anything. Was quick, clean, on point, efficient, and best of all CHEAP AS CHIPS FROM GEM SALON NEXT DOOR ( bad pun). I don't know what else to say, I've gone to so many men's barbershops, and salons where I pay 55, 60, 70, or even $90 for a cut and this was by far and away one of the better cuts I've had in NYC. OHHHHH I almost forgot, he also cleans his instruments before each use, which I don't particularly care about, but I hate going to barbers who have a messy setup and some other persons hair all over their instruments then cut my hair with it. Moved to the city and after 4 months of jumping around to different barbers, finally found the spot. These guys are legit. Boris cut my hair the first time and he took the time to explain how the cut should go based off the photos I showed him. He got it down exact which drove the trustability factor up. Out of the 7 different places I've tried, these guys were the only one who actually took the time to listen to my preference and give me an expert opinion. I waited for the second visit as sometimes the first can come by luck and it definitely didn't disappoint. Isaac cut my hair this time and to have 2 different barbers work on you and get it down exactly the way you want it is gold. Walked away really happy with Isaacs work. Finding a consistent barber you trust isn't easy especially when moving to a new city and I can honestly say these guys are true artists. There's a million barber shops in NYC and it's very hard to find the right one. This is just that. I was lucky to find this place and it's location being right next to my work is a huge plus. Ever since I've grown my hair out it's been hard to find the right hair style but these guys hooked me up. Boris, the owner, is the man. Been coming here for about a year. Borris has skills no doubt. He can cut your hair well even if youve never seen him before. But, since hes so good youre usually gonna have to wait in line. Senate takes a little longer to cut, but he takes his time to get it right. He does it solid as well. I actually prefer going to Senate cuz I usually never have to wait and he has my style down. I wanted to wait until my second cut here to write a review to make sure the consistency was there. Let me tell you, it is. These guys do a really great job. They are friendly, have excellent stuff of the television (science channel, history channel, discovery, etc), and cut a good head of hair. I don't want to post a picture of my hair cut but for reference, I do my best at attempting the Don Draper sort of look and he gets it right every time. He even suggested doing a "part assist" where he lightly runs the trimmer down the part line of the hair to accentuate the part and make it easier to style. It really works out nicely. I've been making the trek across town to this place ever since my old barber fu@ked up my hair the day before my birthday party (my 50th birthday party - not just any old one) and I've been coming back ever since. every so often I go to another barber shop in my own neighborhood and I'm always disappointed. they never do as good a job as Boris or Sannad (Eddie's great too, but he's almost never there anymore). giving a great haircut is more than just a skill - you have to understand how to make the cut work with the shape of that person's face. that's the difference between a good one and a great one. these guys really get it.
