I will say it was hard to find the place at first and I ended up in the dentist office in the front of the building due to the gps, but just make sure to go into the second driveway to the top and not the first. It was an easy fix and the dentist told me where to go. I found a picture of a hairstyle I loved and decided I wanted to try it out. I came home for college for the weekend and decided to get it cut, and since it was so short notice it was really hard finding a place that had appointments. I ended up finding and calling Headliners, near the closing of day as well, and they were very nice over the phone and I set up my appointment with a detail of what my hair looks like and what I wanted done within 5-10 minutes and gave me an appointment in the next 2 days. I got my haircut with Alisha and she was so kind and so sweet and worked with me completely to figure out and do exactly what I wanted. I wanted curtain bangs and she made sure I knew that I would have to style them and not just leave them everyday when I woke up and made sure I still wanted them. She even asked before she began doing anything my budget to make sure I got what I wanted with a reasonable price. I got my hair dyed and when she was dying it she noticed right away she missed a spot after rinsing and immediately fixed it, and it was in the back so she could've left it and I wouldn't have known. I'm absolutely obsessed with the haircut she gave me, I love it so much and she did such a great job. All I've been getting are compliments on it! It isn't fun writing a negative review for anyone, let alone our local salon that I'd really like to support. However, the staff is condescending and belittling here, both in person and over the phone. The cuts I've received here have been rushed but decent. Both hairdressers I've tried have barely said a word during their cuts, which is unusual but wouldn't be worth a bad review on its own. It seemed like they were trying to cut my hair as quickly as possible so they could move on to more profitable customers. Fair enough. What sets this place apart is their front desk team. Scheduling every appointment is a hassle and they're extremely condescending if you need to make any changes, even in advance. Today, they charged me an extra $55 for being 12 minutes late to my appointment. Again, it's up to them to set their policy and I felt bad for being late, but $55 is excessive in my opinion. If your calendar isn't prone to change after you book your appointment a month+ in advance, and you're content with quiet rushed haircuts, you'll be fine at this salon. But for better customer service, look elsewhere. read more

This was my first experience at Headliners. I'm new to the area and have struggled to find someone who just "gets it" when it comes to my vision for my hair. Right when I sat down with Simone I knew I was in good hands. She pointed out some of the things that she could do to fix the problems I had been seeing. I had gone to Headliners since I was at college at UConn...without saying how many years ago that was, it's been a LONG time. A few years ago, I stopped going to Headliners, simply because I moved to Middletown and felt like I could probably find something a little closer. I was wrong. No salon has come even close to the caliber of Headliners. After a couple of really bad encounters at other salons, I will NEVER let anyone other than Dorrie touch my hair. I have probably been to the salon dozens of times and always leave happy. Yes, it gets pricey, especially as your stylist moves up the levels. But it is totally worth it! Because one trip to a bad stylist and your hair is ruined for quite some time! I recently had a nightmare trip to a salon where the owner destroyed my hair and did numerous things I did not ask for. He refused to fix it, saying he could never get my hair back to one color and I would never be happy. Perhaps HE could not fix my hair due to his ineptness, but Dorrie squeezed me into her busy schedule and fixed me right up! She brought me back to my lovely brown hair color and I left with a huge smile on my face. From my every day color and cuts to my hair for my wedding...she always takes the time to understand what I want, and she always gets it perfect. The spa is also quite nice and Angelica is a guru of waxing and facials. Get a product card and for every $100 you purchase you get $10 off a future purchase. It's just a great salon overall, everyone is friendly and they are very professional and well trained. read more

First of all, location sucks.. didn't even know where it was i ended up in the dentist office on the other side of the building. Second, after coming here i felt like i just wasted my time and my money. I was greeted at the door and the workers seemed very friendly and it was a pretty clean place, but I definitely did not get what i came for. I think I had brianna and when i described to her what i wanted she straight up said no .... and then she was like "I don't think that hairstyle has any shape so i refuse to do it" ... meanwhile ... SHE HAD A VERY SIMILAR HAIRSTYLE TO THE ONE I WANTED .. very strange .. maybe she just didn't know how to do it or what. I contemplated just leaving right then, but i decided to just give them a chance. I wanted a soft tapered V-shape cut, short layers and a nice face frame... she ended up cutting it in a straight light w barely any layers and the weakest face frame i've ever seen .. and then said my hair was thicc.. i wonder why(spoiler alert- it was the cut). I have typical asian hair .. straight and thin.. so to be able to make it thick af is hard to do but she somehow did it. Walked out w the opposite of what i wanted and i went home and framed my hair myself and it was better. Price was not right and neither was my hair LOL.. other than that, Brianna was super chill, i'd probably even go out for drinks w her but i definitely will not let her touch my hair again. read more

Unfortunately going here was a big fat waste of money for me. I wanted my natural hair dyed dark to cover my grays and blonde extensions put underneath. The hair stylist (Alysa?) assured me that the blonde would not stain from the dark dye. However - she used semipermanent dye. So not only did my extensions stain as soon as I washed my hair but the dye has all faded out and you can see all of my gray hairs again. I will never go back here. It definitely feels like they were just out to get my money. Do not recommend at all. And when I called them to explain the issue they said well we can bleach the extensions .... Okay .... So that next time I wash my hair again the hair will stain just like before? No thanks. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

My daughter went for a balayage. Brianna gave her a "consultation" Completely talked her out of what she wanted. Gave her a ton of highlights. My daughter honestly looks like she came out of a 2005 photo. She tried telling Brianna and went as far as showing her videos and photos of what she wanted. After paying 220.00 plus 40 dollars tip. My daughter being a teen was afraid to tell her it was not what she asked for! my daughter called her and explained yet again on the phone that she was not happy with the outcome. Brianna once again stated she gave her what she wanted and if she wanted something different she'd have to make another appointment and pay yet again to get what she actually wanted her to do in the first place!! If you are looking for a great eyebrow wax, not a eyebrow removal- book with Angelica for your wax. I had a bad wax last year that left me with craptastic, uneven brows that scared every mother & child in a 30 mile radius. It was bad!! A friend of mine referred me to Angelica in the spa and after a few waxes, my brows were back to their shape...and let me say looking better than ever! I have a hard time putting trust into just anyone for my brows, but she has a knack and you will not be disappointed! Why did I give this review 4 stars? The front end service could be better. It looks as though they are always running tight with receptionists...running from the spa to salon to check people out. Also, the waiting room is basically in their nail/makeup area. Very awkward if you are waiting and your sitting next to someone getting their nails done. If that was improved upon, I would go with 5 Stars! read more

I don't really understand why a salon requires you to come in for a consultation if when you schedule your appointment you just have to tell your stylist everything again. I had many pictures of things I liked and I made it very clear what I wanted. Instead stylist did her own thing. At the end of my appointment I said that it wasn't what I wanted, her response was "it wasn't really what I was going for but it looks good". I went in for a trim and balayage, I walked out will all over streaky, brassy, poorly applied highlights and 4 inches of my hair cut off. At the end of the whole experience, even though she admittedly messed up I still got charge $160 and now I am going to spend even more trying to fix this terrible dye job. I made an appointment for my teenage daughter after she made a mess of her hair with a box of clairol less than a week before her senior prom. Not only were they able to accommodate the last minute request, they did so without passing judgment on this young lady's mistake. They were able to get her an appointment within 2 days of my call. My daughter spent an incredibly long time with Alicia doing a color correction. At the end of the night I received this text, "I want to come here forever. I love Alicia and I love my hair." While color correction is costly, the expense was well worth the end result. The front desk staff were knowledgeable and friendly during the booking process and Alicia made my daughter feel comfortable while she fixed her hair. I have been going to headliners for years, my family included, and it has gone down hill since. I used to be greeted and consulted by my lady, but now she rushes and never asks what I would like. The wax was burning hot and my eyebrows were way too thin and uneven. When I went to express my disappointment, I was not offered compensation for my bad service and I wasn't even sent the manager. When the women tried to fix my eyebrows, she still rushed me into the room to try for a quick fix. The costs are ridiculous, $20 for an eyebrow waxing and $50 for a simple trim. The customer service has gone down over the years and it seems they are more interested in money than spending the NECESSARY time with their customers. If you are willing to spend a lot of money for below par service then this is the perfect place for you. For now I will take my money else where. read more

Headliners is pretty pricey for the Tolland area but, at least in my experiences, you get what you pay for. Isabella has been cutting my hair for 5 years and I've always adored the result. Highlights too, she's a great colorist. I can only speak positively for the salon services because I haven't yet indulged in any type of Headliners spa goodies. I had the same hairdresser in Brookfield for about 8 years. I moved to Mansfield and for the first time I got my hair cut somewhere new so I was super anxious. Fortunately, I was really impressed with my experience at Headliners. I had a lollipop while I got my eyebrows done and waited for my hairdresser to finish with her last client (hairdressers are always running late as a rule, kinda like doctors). The spa is very nice as well and Diana was fun and friendly while she ripped my facial hair out with hot wax. I saw Isabella for the haircut and without any specific guidance she gave me a killer haircut that I love. I'm the type who doesn't like to have to tell my stylist how to style me so I was very happy. The stylists apparently all work off a "theory" of hair which can be found on their website. All in all, I say these people are all very serious about what they do and it's obvious. I also agree with the other reviewers: you get what you pay for and yeah, it's a little pricey. read more

I've been getting my hair cut here since I was a child! Stacy is fantastic, I've never had a bad haircut here. I've also been getting waxed here for the past two years. The only reason this is four stars is because one time I went to someone other than Angelica for a Brazilian and it was terrible. I had to ask her to stop, there was wax left on me, and I was in pain for hours afterwards. Despite that discrepancy I generally have a lovely experience in the spa half. Angelica is the only one I'll get a wax from, she makes the entire experience comfortable and quick. read more

Used to go here to get my hair colored and cut until the girl that colored my hair left the Headliners so I ended up with someone else. My hair is dark brown with auburn. This new girl colored my hair black, anyone can color hair black. I was not happy as you know, it's not easy getting the dark color out of your hair. I had to pay another salon to strip the black color to get my hair back to it's natural color. I was on my way to the mall from here. When at the mall, I stopped into Hannoush Jewelers to see a friend who works there and she told me that I had black all over my forehead and sides of my face, she couldn't believe it and neither could I when I looked in the mirror. The girl didn't even bother to clean the leftover dye off of my face, how reckless is that? How embarrassing for me. I wondered why people at the mall were looking at me kinda weird. I can't believe I paid for this mess. I did go back one more time and requested a different person than the one who colored me previously. The only reason why I went back is because my new hairdresser was on vacation and I was in dyer straights so I kept my appointment figuring the next person has got to be better. My hair came out great. When I was leaving the salon, I noticed my leather jacket was gone. Someone had stolen my brand new leather jacket from their coat room and the owner said they were not responsible. I was mortified and pretty ticked off as it was an expensive Christmas gift from my husband and only the 2nd time I got to wear it. I had been going to the Headliners for a few years now, Dan, one of the two owners is the only one who I let cut my hair and he's not cheap. I also got massages and pedicures there and bought their products. Spent a lot of money here and was shocked to be treated the way I was treated. The owner, she wasn't a bit sympathetic. I had to leave this place with the shirt on my back only and it was a freezing cold windy day. Thank goodness I had my car keys in my purse so I could drive home. Needless to say, I never went back and I tell everyone who ever mentions the name "Headliners" to BEWARE and I share my bad experiences with them. read more

I don't think I have ever had a stylist that consistently makes me feel (and look) gorgeous after every visit. So I'm a guy, and while I recently moved and don't go here anymore, I went here for a couple years. I'm not incredibly particular about hair styling, but I went here simply because I was OK with paying an extra $10 to to get nice treatment, a shampoo in the beginning, and then a not-rushed, good haircut. Every time I would get a haircut at one of the budget places, it would be a total crapshoot and I would be totally scared whether I would come out looking like crap and then have to try to fix it myself. I was happy with every haircut I got at Headliners and i would just go to whatever stylist I could get the day of. Cost for a men's haircut: $20-35 depending on the experience of the stylist.
