Asked for a root touch up and spots were completely missed. They charged me $165 just to lighten my roots and they didn't even come close to matching it to the rest of my hair. They also make you sign a paper saying you cannot complain about reactions to the chemicals and the color if you don't pay extra for a blow dry. I have chemical burns on my ears and because I didn't originally request a blow dry, there "wasn't enough time" for one so looking back, the paper was a red flag. read more

If you are a person of color with ethnic hair, please don't go here. They keep repeating that they are well-versed in cutting and dyeing curly hair ( 2b-4c hair), but she didn't even know that you are supposed to cut curly hair dry. She said that she was "unsure" how to proceed. The receptionist basically lied to me and told me that they have experience with curly hair, and I booked an appointment only after double-checking, only to be disappointed. They also tried to put highlights in my black hair, but the color didn't stick and they were "surprised" but still charged me $90. Honestly, I should not have gone a second time considering the fact that all the stylists had the same bad, bleached blonde hair with no versatility. I wish there were more hair salons around Storrs that catered to POC hair. read more

Worst experience at a hair salon thus far in my life. I am a student at UCONN and because of proximity and convenience, decided to give Cut To The Chase a try since it is within walking distance of campus. I walked in and was greeted poorly and condescendingly by one of the employees, who also happened to be the same woman who cut my hair. Granted, her personality may just be dry, but the entire time she didn't act like she cared about how my haircut would turn out, nor did she pay significant attention to important details I gave her about how I wanted my hair to look. When I showed her a picture of the haircut that I wanted, she stared at it in silence for about 30 seconds, and was like "...okay. I can try to do that"--or something along those lines. And it just happened that her attitude directly translated into her performance! My haircut turned out terrible; she gave me very choppy "layers," (if what she did to may hair can even be considered layers) and when I pulled my hair to the front, both sides were noticeably uneven. The haircut itself was $20 (including tip), but I would have much rather cut my own hair for free. If you're looking to be treated coldly and get a shitty haircut, then this is the place to go. Otherwise, please just save your money and go to a place that actually deserves it. read more

Cut to the Chase easily fit me into their schedule on a Saturday afternoon (I had called a few days beforehand), and everyone at the salon was friendly and professional. They greet all of their guests almost immediately and attend to their needs in a timely manner. I'm terrible with names so I don't remember the name of my stylist but she had curly red hair and she was wonderful! I hate getting my hair cut because I'm shy and dislike small talk, but she didn't make me feel like I needed to talk to her if I didn't want to. She gave me tips about dealing with my curly hair, which I really appreciated. I kept thinking she was trying to sell me something, but she never did; she was literally just trying to help me. Miranda is the greatest. I have very simple requirements for my hair and she does a great job. Is a wonderful conversationalist and I am in and out of the chair in 10mins. Was looking for a quick haircut and checked out reviews on other sites for Cut to the Chase. I also know a few people who had been and they liked it, so I figured I'd check it out. It's summer and a Saturday afternoon but I walked in and was taken right back. I had Miranda and she was great. Wash and cut was $15.99 and I was in and out in about 15 minutes flat. They were super friendly and I am happy with the cut. I also really appreciated that she didn't pressure me to buy the product she used. I expressed interest and she told me to take some time, let it dry, and come back if I want to get it. Just all around was an experience I enjoyed. read more

Super convenient and cute salon! I was a walk-in but they had appointments so I had to wait about 45 min which I expected. Super quick and easy haircut and I got exactly what I asked for! Very reasonably priced ($18!) and everyone is really friendly, too. read more

I went in because I really needed a cut and I never plan ahead I just want one when I want one. I wasn't sure what to expect because they changed management but I've never really had a haircut that was so fabulous I needed to go to one person and I'm 40 for reference. So I went in and said whoever is around. Sara, master stylist was who I was assigned to. She's very personable and made me feel comfortable right away, like she knew me for a long time. She asked what I wanted, I tried to describe my last haircut which was decent from a lady who worked there previously. She said what do you do it it? Absolutely nothing, dry it sometimes. My hair is very fine and I don't have a lot. So she cut it and blew it out and it looked AMAZING. I thought yeah but it never looks good the day after. Wrong. I'm 6 weeks in and the grow out looks amazing. The layers make my hair look thick and I don't have to do anything to it. I'm not exaggerating when I say it's the best haircut of my life! Warning: this is not the place for women's haircuts that take time and skill. I went here twice and had the woman with long, dark brown hair and she did a nice job on my chin length bob so I went back again after not getting a trim for 2 months. This time I got the woman with long, blond hair and she gave me the worst haircut of my life! She cut my hair quickly, didn't blow dry the back and let me see is, and rush me out to take another customer. I asked for my chin length bob that had been growing out for 6 weeks to be trimmed and shaped to curl under at the edges, like I had before. I got a cut that was a too short blunt (one length) bob on one side and then a graduated bob (ie. a completely different haircut) on the other! In addition the cut is noticeably choppy and looks unfinished and poorly done even after a few days to let it settle in and a careful blow dry. This is not a fixable hair cut, it is a hide with a headband and grow it out for a few months only situation. I have to go to work this way and am expected to look professional and I look laughable. I will never go back here and hope my review will save others from this huge annoyance. read more
