After showering and blow drying, my hair felt heavy, and blunt cut at the ends. I was sad. So...I began searching for another hair stylist who had an immediate opening to get a consultation to fix my hair done by another stylist. I was able to get an appointment the next day with Jill! She assessed my hair looking at the haircut and inspected the layers. I told her that I had already washed my hair, so she did a dry cut. She showed me where the layers were cut shorter underneath and where one side was longer than the other. Some weight was taken off to lessen the puffiness from my thick hair. After she did the haircut, she gave me a mirror to look my hair in the back, she explained to me the layers and how it was supposed to fall and blend nicely. Then she taught me how to style/curl my hair in the fastest time! I called to see if there was any opening for a quick haircut since I live in the area. First of all, when I asked for a 2pm availability they said to come in by 1:45... no problem since I live down the road but they still ended up seeing me at 2. Then as I was getting my haircut I felt soooo rushed because apparently the hair stylists all had a charity event to go to that afternoon. Secondly, As she was doing my hair, she was also gathering her belongings to bring with her. I feel like they just tried really hard to squeeze me which I don't get. That's why I called to see if they had an openings, i wasn't in any rush. And lastly, I was pretty annoyed at this point. When the stylist was done styling/blowdrying my hair, she told me I had to come in another day to get it thin out more bc she has to leave. Uhhh no. It looked ok bc she styled it but once I showered, I saw the choppiness of my haircut! I'm pretty simple and all I asked for were curtain bangs and long layers. Nothing else. Don't tell the customer to rush in for an appointment only to be seen after said time and to be rushed. You could have just said there's no availability! She is very warm, efficient and knowledgeable & gives the best scalp & neck massage during rinse that was SO needed and a plus to her hospitable service. I was able to get an appointment for the same day I called. Chau was my hairstylist. I didn't have a picture of a haircut I had in mind, but told her I hadn't cut my hair in almost a year and I needed layers to add some body to my stick straight hair. She spent at least an hour and a half cutting my hair since I have a lot of it. I am very pleased with the results! I received many compliments from family and friends. I would definitely go back. Just be aware that this salon is cash only. Luckily, I had cash on hand. All of the stylists are independent contractors so I believe they set their own individual pricing. The shop is busy and everyone is friendly. If you come here you have to check out Tianna. She's a down to earth Kauai girl that knows her stuff! She's trendy and always willing to share ideas for new styles and products to get you looking and feeling your best. You have to make an appointment because this girl is busy! Stay away from Sunday's and Monday's because she takes off on those days. When you come here don't be alarmed if you see people getting inked. They have a resident tattoo artist on the premise. Cool braddah with lots of paint on him. Also noticed a nail station and massage room. Not sure how that all works but I'm sure you probably need to make a reservation. Overall cool vibe. It was time again to have my hair straighten and ofcourse I will only book Kate/Cindy. Her new location is by Heads Up in Pearl City. I did side layer, thinning, haircut and the regular Japanese perm. My appointment time was 9:30am and I was so shy coming in 15 minutes late.. (those traffic lights took forever to change green). We finish at 1:15pm.. yes,, that's how long this process was.. (and i only do it every 6-8months,,sometimes, after one year). I am so thankful for the price she gives me. She's so generous. (Almost 60% cheaper than the other stylist near the zoo..not gonna lie!). The results are always and consistently perfect! I am so glad to found Kate/Cindy.. I don't know what to do without her. This review is for the amazing hairstylist AMBER! Been seeing Amber for a few months now and initially she had cut my sons hair. Gave him a nice fade and line up. I'm not into the fancy styles the kids have these days but she hooks it up every time with a clean comb over fade. For me I've dyed my hair so much my ends was horrible. I view hair stylists as artists and so I enjoy trying out different artists to see how they would sculpt my hair. I am not afraid of awful cuts although I don't wish to receive them. I admit that I like to hop around to different stylists but somehow always end up going back to AMBER. She's got madd, awesome skills when it comes to layers. She knows EXACTLY how to do that Japanese layered cut that I love so much. She impresses me with not only her skills but is the quickest stylist I know and still manages to make me look and feel beautiful. I honestly don't know how she's able to work on my hair so quick because I have such thick, unmanageable Okinawan hair with waves that has a mind of its own. I'm sure we all rather get our hair done right than done quick but let me tell you, Amber can do both and to top it off she has a fun, lively personality. Amber you rock! P.S. Brought my child here bc of the great reviews. So disappointed. The lady didn't tell me until she was almost done that she doesn't do African American hair. Why don't they put that on their sign or why don't they tell people that when they call? She was rude. Among other things, when my child said, "please be gentle" as she took a comb and yanked through his hair. She said, "well next time you need to pick it out before coming in here". When I called they said child hair cut was $15, but the lady charged me $35! Really?! My child didn't have long hair. Barely had hair. Crazy! I gave her $40 cash and she was rude and acted like I don't need no change. I generally tip pretty well, but didn't feel like she needed a tip after all that. I ended up letting her keep the change. My child and I had enough. We will not be back. If you have African American blood in you, don't go there. They will make rude comments, jerk your head around, and overcharge you. read more

I absolutely enjoyed my treatment and trim with Jeeda A. today. I have natural (no lye, no color, just virgin) african-American hair. I am very comfortable stylist and caring for my own hair. Trimming my own hair however...not so much. It had been 18 months since I last trimmed my hair. Jeeda took great care of my hair and tender scalp. I needed a trim and she did JUST THAT...TRIMMED IT allowing me to retain much of my length. The deep condition and steam treatment were perfect. Her prices are very reasonable. Always a great experience at Heads Up. The salon is well-managed, clean, and the staff are very friendly. I call in sometimes, when I can't get a hold of my hair stylist, to see if she's there and they always answer the phone courteously even when busy. My hairstylist? I had been a regular at Mastercuts in Pearlridge for a few years now, because they are reasonably priced and don't completely screw up my hair. The last time I went there, the stylist didn't layer my hair the way I wanted it done, despite my explanation of what I wanted done. I'm going to Japan in a few days, so I thought to get my hair fixed the way I wanted it done in the first place. Amber is great! She completely understood the way I wanted my layers, was very efficient, and had extra suggestions for me. I've been getting my hair cut and styled by Ashley at Heads Up Salon for more than three years now. I was sitting in her chair just yesterday and we were trying to figure out just how long it's been. I've never stuck with a stylist this long -- until I found Ashley. She's tried and true -- I know I'll be happy with my haircut and style from her and won't feel broke when it's done. She's also done my color before. Also awesome, of course. I like the fact that Ashley is friendly AND talented. She's warm, professional and easy to talk to.
