We hired Skip during the height of the pandemic, thus we didn't even get to meet him until our wedding day, but even before that, we knew he was the perfect choice. Not only had he worked at our venue before, but our coordinator was also singing his praises and rightfully so. I had a fear going into it that the dance floor would be depressingly empty (we come from a more sedentary group of friends and family) but Skip did the impossible and we had a good group of dancers on the floor the entire night. After doing research for our wedding DJ, I managed to come across Skip here on Yelp. His reviews were outstanding and everyone said that he really made the party come to life. They were not lying. Our wedding was a complete success because of the effort Skip gave. When working with our venue, which was definitely not the easiest at times, Skip did everything that he could. He showed up early, helped set up, worked with our 'coordinator' and made sure that everything flowed. During our reception, there was an issue with the sound that was connected to our dating video. This had NOTHING to do with Skip, BUT he came to the rescue and tried to help the venue staff figure everything out when they were unable to do so themselves. Because of that hiccup in our evening, he stayed for an extra 30 minutes so everyone had adequate party and dancing time. The music he played was so great, appropriate and exactly what we asked for. We met up with Skip before our wedding to connect and actually get a feel for each other. He is a great DJ and very friendly person who is incredibly easy to work with. Skip was amazing for our wedding yesterday at Trinity Tree Farm. Great communication, booking and payment were easy. He absolutely nailed our timeline tunes (wedding parties, kiss & exit, entry into the reception). Everyone danced the entire time. He had carte blanche during the dinner hour to play whatever with little guidance and he must've staked out my spotify because some of my absolute favorite songs got played. Tunes and mixing were spot on, everyone danced the entire night and he read the crowd extremely well. We had Skip MC our wedding last week, and it was a phenomenal production. For a reception that started at 3:30pm, we worried that guests wouldn't be as motivated to dance. That wasn't the case at all, as even my father (a 70 year old Japanese man) was out on the floor! Skip was very organized with the flow of events, and it was very clear to us how to select certain songs to go with specific events (cake cutting, first dance, etc). During the cocktail hour, dinner and dancing, when he was allowed some freedom in song selection, I was surprised at how well he was able to read the crowd and play great songs. For the MC portion, Skip was never intrusive nor cheesy. When he did speak up to guide the flow of the wedding, he was concise, professional, and with the right degree of humor. Edit: Skip reached out to me to sincerely apologize for the miscommunication and acknowledged that some of what he'd said could be taken the wrong way. He didn't have to do that given the sea of 5 star ratings he has, but he did. I've added a star for that. Original review follows: Note: This review is based entirely on their customer service experience via email. Long story short, don't contact them if you don't have your date 100% set and probably don't contact them if you plan to have a short reception (even though they say the minimum on is 4 hours on their website). I requested a quote from HeadSmile Productions and got an email reply very quickly with Skip asking for more information and offering one of his other DJ's as a possibility. I answered his questions and also asked if he had any references or reviews for that DJ as all the reviews for the company mention Skip by name and not the other guy. Skip never acknowledged that request. He instead asked what our budget was. I replied with our budget which seemed like a reasonable number based on the pricing on their website and let him know we'd have details set soon as we were waiting on solidifying plans with the venue. He replied with "So you have not solidified the wedding date yet? Is that correct?" I wrote back that that was indeed correct and that we could get in touch later once we had a set date within the next couple of weeks. He again ignored my question but instead replied with this exact quote: "Unfortunately my other DJ's are either all booked up or unavailable. Sorry we couldn't be of more help." Customer service 101: adding in pleasantries like "hope you have a wonderful wedding" don't hide the fact that you never answered your prospective customers questions and that you brushed them off. I'm sure he's a great DJ but the customer service is highly lacking. Maybe they just weren't interested in DJing a small, semi-short wedding, which would have been fine if they just said so. The back and forth was a waste of everyone's time. read more

Skip was the DJ for our wedding and was truly phenomenal. He worked with us prior to the wedding to ensure that we all were on the same page with what music we liked and wanted to hear, how much we wanted him to MC, etc. Skip was super responsive and had great ideas based on his experience with weddings. Day of, we arrived at our reception site after the ceremony to find the party already in motion; he really set the tone for a joyful reception. He did a wonderful job coordinating with our caterer and making sure the night flowed smoothly. Logistics and timeline for the night were probably my biggest worries about the wedding and Skip took care of all of that, checking in every now and then to make sure it was how we wanted it. He took the reins so that I would be able to sit back and enjoy my own wedding- and I did. For dancing, he did an incredible job mixing generations of music and guests young and old were dancing into the night. I had a cousin come up to me and say- "this DJ is awesome, I've never seen my mom dance at a wedding." He pulled dancing out of people by mixing great music that everyone could identify with. Skip responded to e-mails faster than anybody else we contacted in regards to our wedding, which was a huge help for somebody planning a wedding from out of state. Skip was also flexible to a unforeseen changes regarding the venue and wedding time. My wife's processional music was lesser known Hawaiian song, and he had no issues finding it for us. He hit all the audio cues perfectly, including music cues that the bridal party added to their speeches on the day of. He is a great MC and tailored his announcements to the crowd and the atmosphere. The. Dancing. Never. Stopped. Everything he did was perfect, and he knows exactly how to work the crowd. Before the wedding we gave him a few songs that fit the feel we wanted and he kept everything in line with those songs. On the specific songs we did give him he gave shout outs to the people they were intended for, which made them feel special. We however, were a little disappointed during our wedding reception. There were several songs on our 'do not play list' which ended up getting played that evening and one instance of a song version issue where a guest was assisting Skip with finding the correct version. Skip insisted on playing a version that our guest knew and indicated that it would not be a crowd pleaser. Skip was the second and last DJ we interviewed when it came to finding our music vendor for our wedding. We knew upon meeting him that he was our guy. He is down to earth, very chill, a family man, and did I say very chill? Skip's calm demeanor helped us through out the wedding. We hired Skip for our wedding last month, and he was SO GREAT. After researching DJs/emcees and emailing with quite a few for pricing quotes, questions, etc., Skip was BY FAR the most helpful and comprehensive with his information. When we booked him, I felt like I knew exactly what I was getting and how much it would cost (no surprise charges, and his fees are super reasonable based on others I had reached out to). Once we booked him, Skip sent a planning document to inform our music on the day of, and it was SUPER comprehensive -- much appreciated for a type-A like me :). He gives you the creative freedom to make the music at your wedding exactly what you want -- either requesting specific songs, giving him an entire curated playlist or just picking a genre and letting him do the magic. The latter is what we did -- picked a genre each for pre-ceremony, cocktail hour and dinner, and he did an awesome job of picking great music for us (one less thing for me to have to do as part of the planning process!). On the day of, everything went incredibly seamlessly -- Skip kept the night on track and once the dance floor opened, kept if FULL the entire time. Skip also took requests from our guests which everyone really loved, and he mixed songs, transitions between songs, etc. so it was super evident to our guests that we had a professional DJ there (vs. someone who just skips track to track on a playlist). DJ Skip is the shit. That is really all I need to say but I think I will give you guys the reasons why. I don't think he needs this review because of course he has 5 stars and he is probably way busier than he needs to be with all his good reviews! However, he deserves to hear how awesome he is and what he did for my sister's wedding. DJ Skip was first of all, the perfect emcee. He said exactly what he should and didn't do anything weird or awkward. He was cool, calm, organized, and SUPER helpful. As the maid of honor and wedding coordinator, he made sure to check in with me about timing. He helped keep me on track and that everything ran smoothly. He arrived on time (early in fact) and transitioned from the ceremony setup to the reception very well. The volume and timing for music was perfect. He released tables for dinner with great timing and introduced the bridal party easily, even though we barely gave him advance notice on some of the stuff we wanted. As for the reception, I can't even express in words how well he did. The wedding was a freaking party. He played every great song ever and I wish I could say it is because we gave him great direction (he did have an awesome music planning/request email out to us), but I think he just knows how to read the group and play songs we love. People did not stop dancing. It was a major dance party, like something out of a club scene, until the very last dance. People were telling us how great our DJ was all night. DJ Skip was absolutely the most incredible DJ we could have hired. He was top-notch quality in the sense he knew what to play at all moments, had the most incredible questionnaire that was detailed so that every aspect of wedding and music was covered, and during the wedding he was a master at helping to move the reception along. He was so good, it was scary..for example, my friends and family would NOT LEAVE THE DANCE FLOOR. I invited about 180 people to the the wedding, and all the young and middle-aged people who stayed behind to dance were dancing their butts off until our venue closed at 10:30pm. In fact, I blame DJ Skip for giving our guests such a good time, that we forgot to take a bunch of group photos. I was so busy dancing and having fun because of his music that I forgot to go around and do what I was supposed to do. I heard from about 10 people that night who told me personally, "Wow, your DJ is really good, I can't believe he had the party going like that." It was unbelievable, DJ Skip from Headsmile Productions is probably the best vendor we hired, along with our caterer and venue location. Another special thing was that we requested he play some old-school 90's music like Backstreet and Spice Girls when the moment was right, he did this throughout the night, and it just made it. Prior to the wedding, we were impressed with his pre event packet that showed how organized and professional Skip is. It gave us a lot of confidence in his ability to manage the process. For the ceremony he had a wireless lapel microphone for the officiant, as well as extra wireless microphones for other speakers throughout the night. Our venue required some creativity on speaker and DJ booth placement, and he came up with a great plan to manage that. He acted as the MC throughout the night, starting at cocktail hour, and was a strong and clear communicator. He kept track of our timeline and kept us or our coordinator in the loop when needed (but definitely not too much).
