I've been going to Paulette for over 5 years and have always had the best hair experience. I get compliments from strangers at malls, work and at party events. Paulette trained my mom (a cosmetologist as well) on new trendy styles etc. after my first visit, I was hooked onto Paulette's magnificent highlights, haircut she did to my hair. Her level of knowledge with problem/acne skin has impressed me. As someone who has tried almost everything in the industry and visited countless dermatologists for years to treat my face, I've never been treated with such great attention to my skin and such a personalized action plan. She has been working to lighten my hyperpigmentation and I already see great improvement. I've done regular facials, chemical peels, and microdermabrasion. Now that my hyperpigmentation has been improving, I hopped over to their location next door (the Esthetic Laser Clinic, not to be confused with Esthetic Institute-where the students are) and got microneedling (Skinpen) done. I am excited to see the results. The Esthetic Laser clinic is the real deal and it is not done by students. Pricing for the Esthetic Institute is wonderful, especially for this area where everything seems to be on the higher end. I'm sad to be moving from the area soon but I know that anytime I'm back in town, a trip to the esthetic Institute will be on my list!

Price wise, it's unbeatable in this area. As far as what the price gets you...well a student edition that's slower and therefore abridged. There's a lot they simply don't have time for as the student tries to rush through everything in about 45minutes. The first time takes longer as there's a review of your intake forms, and a discussion on what products to use during this facial. After cleansing, an instructor comes in to check your skin and advise the student on what to do and what products to use. I found this process useful for determining what products I should and should not use. I came back and scheduled with the same student just to get an idea of how much my skin might've improved after following the instructors advice. Very useful. They student double cleanses while streaming your skin. There's always makeup removal even though I've tried telling them I have permanent makeup and no additional makeup on. I really wished they would add this to their chart so we can just skip all this "makeup removal" when no makeup is worn. Anyway, after double cleansing there's an inspection, in my case exfoliation, a mask, and then some treatment as necessary. I assume not everyone has the same treatment as we have different issues to address. Overall the rooms and tables are comfortable. They play pleasant music. It's meant to be a relaxing spa experience. However, as they don't have any lymphatic massage included, or bring any of the facial down to your neck/chest, it really feels a little j complete. There's also not been any extraction even though estheticians usually would extract.

The second time, I took my kids with me, and they could not stop talking about the salon and the girls. They both were equally impressed and very satisfied with their cut. One of my sons is very OCD and hard to please with his hair cut, but his hairstylist met the demand and was fabulous. I have always had a pleasurable experience from walking in the doors until leaving. I love that you get tea when getting there. The store front is very attractive and welcoming as well as the staff. I called her yesterday to book a haircut appointment for 5 PM. She asked me to message her, so I did -- confirming the date, time, and service. She replied "okay." Just before leaving home, I even called her again to double-confirm that I was coming at 5 PM for a haircut, and again, she said "okay." I arrived on time, only to find three people waiting and one client in the chair. I told her I had a 5 PM appointment, and her response was, "Who did you book with?" When I said it was my first time there and I had spoken to her directly, she burst out laughing in my face. In front of several people. Then she flatly said, "I can't take you today." I asked if there was anyone else who could take me -- she said no, she's the only one. So then why ask me who I booked with? I was made to feel like a complete fool, standing at the door while others watched uncomfortably as I was dismissed, as if it were my fault for trusting her word. When I calmly asked why she double-booked me, she responded with, "What you gonna do, kill me?" Let that sink in. That's how a paying customer was spoken to -- after clearly booking, confirming, and showing up on time. I left humiliated and angry. She wasted my time and treated me with shocking rudeness and zero accountability. This wasn't just bad service -- it was unprofessional, dismissive, and verbally aggressive. I'm reporting this incident to the Better Business Bureau and considering filing a complaint with the local consumer protection agency for denying agreed-upon service and for public mistreatment bordering on harassment. Yes, I was right to be worried. My hair was washed pretty quickly and I showed her the hairstyle that I wanted. There wasn't much conversation, which was fine. However, while she was cutting my hair, a regular person came in and the person who was working with my hair dropped everything to greet her and told someone else to deal with me. I wasn't sure if this was normal and she was pretty much done, so I just let it be. Then a male came and finished blow drying and cutting my hair. While the end result of my hair was something that I could live with, it's not something I necessarily wanted as she/he cut it a bit too short. I know that hair grows back, but I couldn't help but feel dismissed during my visit. Generally, as I don't know Virginia well, I use Groupon to see which hair salons would treat me well while keeping it low stakes. However, since I wasn't happy with my end result nor was I happy with being dismissed, I do not wish to come back.
