This is my third meal service, my second one I've used in the San Diego area and they are my go to for my dinner meals. First off, convenience, they deliver direct to your door. I put my cooler out in the morning before I go to work on Monday and when I get home I have gourmet meals waiting for me. There is a $7.50 charge for delivery. The food is high-quality and delicious. I like how the beef and the pork are tender and not dry or tough. I like the salads as well, but the soups, oh the soups. I am not a soup person, but I started ordering the soups in the beginning of using this meal service and I am hooked. They taste like they're made from scratch. I love them! (hmm I tried to do a heart emoticon but Yelp doesn't accept that symbol, LOL) oh yeah, the salmon dishes, some of the shrimp and salmon dishes are a little more expensive, but the salmon is cooked expertly and I am very picky when it comes to salmon. I usually order the individual meals and it is plenty of food for one person unless you have a huge appetite and then I think they have large meals as well as family size. I like that I look forward to going home and eating my prepared meals instead of being tempted to go out and get takeout or something. Definitely try them out! read more

This has been my greatest blessing of 2012!! Their meals are amazing and after living on fast food the last five years, the health benefits were immediate as I am feeling fantastic emotionally and physically (I lost 7lbs in the first 2 weeks!!). I no longer have to snack in between meals and appreciate the balance in my day without the highs and lows from bad carbs. The convenience can't be matched, especially taking my lunch to work when as a nurse you savor every precious few minutes on your break!! As a busy mom I am loving this food delivery service! They use fresh, healthy ingredients and even have an organic option. Much healthier than takeout and more convenient since they deliver right to your door. Tonight we were eating one of their dishes (chicken, brown rice, and veggies), and my two preschool-aged sons were saying "I love it when Heath Grub makes dinner, yum yum." I ordered a few different meals from Health Grub last week and it far exceeded my expectations. I used to use Get Fresh SD which went out of business a few months ago, I loved their food but Health Grub far surpasses it in taste and variety. The best part about this service is that a number of the options can be made vegetarian and the portions sizes are quantified by calories. This is an ideal service for anyone who is busy but trying to maintain a healthy (but delicious) diet. I've already got my order in for next week and cant wait to try the new dishes. This food is AMAZING!! After going gluten free I thought I was just going to be eating air and water. I was so excited when I found Health Grub. Mark is truly a magician in the kitchen. Everything is perfectly cooked and seasoned to perfection. It's REAL food and REALLY good! I have found the answer to eating out - I don't. I have tried many meal prep/food delivery services both in San Diego and in Texas. Health Grub is by far my favorite! The meals are a little pricier than some...but they make up for it in taste and service! My meals are conveniently delivered to my office every Monday. The food is so delicious. I really look forward to eating my meals, which is something I can't say about many of the other places I have tried. I've noticed a difference in the freshness of Health Grub's meals, as well. They really do stay fresh all week. I am also very impressed by how well they run their business. I have only once had an issue, one of my meals was forgotten, and Chef Marcella responded right away. We've been ordering three meals a week from Health Grub and have been maintaining or losing weight on a regular basis while still feeling satisfied. The food is absolutely delicious and I look forward to it every night. They just introduced family meal packages and we're thinking about upping it to 4 meals a week. My boyfriend is huge (tall) and we split a family size for the two of us so he isn't starving, for reference on size. If you're used to large meal portions I'd say a family size is good for two hungry adults. If you work long hours and want healthy, precooked meals from an amazing, health-focused chef, you can't go wrong here. My only recommendation would be adding family sized 'fit meals'! We like low carb but can only do individual meals for those, and it feels like a waste of packaging to order multiple single servings. Otherwise, this is an amazing and ideal service. read more

My wife and I have been customers for almost a year now and we are very pleased. This was a godsend for us after having a baby because the meals are so easy to prepare (i usually just microwave them for a minute) and cleanup is a cinch! There is always a good selection to choose from and the food is always high quality, fresh, and very tasty. Options are reasonably priced and they are excellent value. We usually add an avocado to each individual entre and split it between the two of us and I am always fully satisfied. Delivery is always on time and they never mess up your order. 5 stars! read more

This food is as good as it gets! Most commercial food ventures use a heavy hand with salt, but in the case of the food that Mark prepares, he has mastered the use of fresh ingredients with just the right amount of interesting and healthy seasoning pairings to make the meal extraordinary. I don't like salty food and was SO glad that Mark doesn't go that route. Who knew that perfectly cooked quinoa would taste so delightful with a hint of mint! And eggplant sauce would taste so good! And nothing is overcooked or blackened/burnt. I just love this food! I only have a problem with trying to remember to order by their weekly deadline because I get so busy, but I'll figure it out. We received a gift certificate from family when our daughter was born. The envelope was addressed to the correct people but the certificate itself had the wrong names on it. We were confused because it said it was from our family but our names weren't on the actual certificate! Pretty unprofessional to not double check that stuff especially since it's a gift. We ordered a couple meals, some good and some completely bland. The real issue is you have to email them to use your gift certificate, you can't just order online. So we have no idea how much is left on our gift certificate and we have emailed them over 3 times in the last 3 months with no response! They definitely need a better system in place and should really respond to emails, it's just poor customer service to not respond. I find it completely unethical to not respond when we still have credit with them, the certificate expires 6 months after purchased so they totally scammed us for the remainder! read more

I tend to avoid food that is advertised as gluten free because of the stigma of decreased flavor that is associated with it. This is not at all the case with Health Grub. We have been happy customers for several months now. The food is good, the menus are varied, and we are doing well at managing our weight. We get 4 meals per week and I don't think we've had the same meal twice. Chef Mark does wonders with vegetables - you actually want to eat them. It is easy to place your weekly order and the delivery option is reliable and convenient. We leave an ice chest on the porch with some blue ice packs in it and by the time we get home our meals have been delivered. We have also found that we are saving a little money not going out to dinner as frequently. We are two adults and we order the XL size meals. They fill us up and we usually have a bit leftover for one of us to take to work the next day for lunch. We had been eating so much high-sodium processed food it took our taste buds a bit of time to adjust to "real" food. We typically add a nice big grind of black pepper to each meal, but have weaned ourselves of the salt shaker in a matter of weeks. None of the meals have been spicy, so they will appeal to most palates. Thanks to Chef Mark and his crew for ensuring that we sit down to a healthful dinner at least four nights a week! read more

I feel so lucky I found these guys! I am a single professional homeowner & hardly any time in my life outside of my job to cook or prep weekly food. I used Chefs Diet in the past. I did like having food delivered, even lost weight. However, I stopped using them about a year ago due to the advance commitments they stick you with, sales harassment, expensive prices and just average food. I heard about Chef Mark and Karen at Health Grub from another SD friend that raved. I tried them out for a week and wow! Impressive customer service, delivery as promised, food is super and prices rock. There is a huge difference in getting fresh well cooked food & locally grown veggies from HG over the mass quantity stuff I was getting before. Even my boyfriend who has given me a hard time in the past with Chefs Diet is now ordering with me at Health Grub weekly. Since having these meals I feel a difference in my body; my health is better overall due to the organic and gluten-free products that they always use in their meals, my weight is down because of the healthy portion controlled meals that I choose each week, and my energy level is up. I heard about this meal delivery service from my niece, who heard about it from a friend in San Diego. Since we were somewhat desperate to get something in place for my sister at the last minute, we decided to try Health Grub. My experience has been nothing short of amazing. I have been dealing w/ Marcella at Health Grub and she has gone out of her way to ensure that my sister is well taken care of. Marcella called me late one night (after I sent her a desperate email explaining our situation) to arrange food delivery for the next day (even though we were way beyond the point where orders could be placed). The level of customer service is quite extraordinary and the quality of the ingredients, the food prep and the taste of the food is way beyond what one would expect. The food is, simply, EXCELLENT. My sister is a pretty spectacular cook in her own right, and she has nothing but high praise for both the quality of ingredients, to the prep and to the taste of the food. Everything from salads to entrees are very fresh and well seasoned, with proper ratio of ingredients to balance out flavors/textures, etc. They are precooked, so need only to be warmed up before eating.
