Jimmy was AWEOME during the two hour free consultation with my fiancée and I. Free... yes. Not only do you get delicious meals. They take their time to personally meet with you, listen to your goals and make suggestions as well. This is exactly why I chose this place based off the great reviews. With a 6 week rotating menu they keep it switched up and the variety is great thus far with much more than you'd ever want to prep on your own. The price is worth every penny. Yikes .. was excited to start this week, consultation was great last week, we figured it's a legit company because Fitness Quest 10 recommended them .. we were wrong. We picked up the food Sunday and by Tuesday evening - we noticed a foul smell from the fridge. We haven't had food in the fridge for weeks (which is why we called them) so there was really only the prepped meals in the fridge... By Wednesday, we couldn't open the fridge for a minute without it completely smelling like rotting food throughout our entire apartment. We checked the temp, it was exactly where it should be according to instructions, and on Sunday when we picked it up, we went right home and put it away so we were really confused with what this could be. We get a little uncomfortable, understandably so, but the worst part? The customer service and the lack of responsibility. We tried to express our concern to Jimmy and he was just going to comp us the meals that we didn't eat, but seeing it was our first week, it just left a bad taste in our mouths(no pun intended) and we don't want to continue. I don't think that's out of left field. I'm sure a lot of people had great experiences, but we didn't. And ... the company took no responsibility for it. Customer service girls telling us that never happens and all that ... but awkward, it did happen. They spent a lot of time on the phone trying to get us to come in and shmooze us, and we just want to get out of our contract ... cause it's uncomfortable now ... because our food was bad. Is that an odd request? Long story short, we can't get out of our contract. So here I am to warn you of what could come if you are unsatisfied like we were. The receptionists were accusatory and rude. Kinda unbelievable as far as business goes. Told us everything under the sun other than a simple "we're sorry that happened to you". Their response to it all was "you signed a contract for 4 weeks." They threatened to take us to collections if we don't finish our 4 week program. You'd think there'd be a clause that lets you out when the company makes poor quality food. Guess not? Buyer beware!! It's only sketchy companies like this that don't accommodate when they're wrong. I had a terrible experience here. Short version: We picked up our food on Sunday, our food was rotten by Tuesday. The Meal Prep Co did not stand behind their product and tried to lock us in our 4 week contract regardless. Mediocre food, the worst customer service I've ever seen. Long version: Colleen and I shared the same terrible experience, but since the owner of this business is airing dirty laundry about me on a public forum (is that even allowed?!), here is my side of the story. I had a pleasant experience with Jimmy. I met him during a presentation he did while I was working out at Fitness Quest 10, and he was very knowledgeable during our consultation. My experiences with both Reyna and Mairene are the reasons why you should stay away from this company. Reyna contacted me on Friday after we voiced our concerns regarding our rotten meals. She was apologetic on the phone but informed me even though our meals were rotten, we were still "locked" in for four weeks regardless. When I insisted that we will not be continuing due to obvious reasons, Reyna threatened to take me to collections. Mairene called me 30 mins after my conversation with Reyna, and wanted to meet in person. She went to say, and I quote "I f@&$en hate this part of the business" (customer service?) and due to the high startup costs, they would not make any money if we quit after a week. (Not our problem?) Mairene insisted we were "locked" in for four weeks and she ended our conversation with, I quote, "see you in court". Mairene is more concerned with maintaining a positive relationship with Fitness Quest 10 (I will talk to Todd) and getting positive reviews on social media (this was so bad that both Colleen and myself needed to write reviews), than with a paying customer who received rotten food. Mairene's brash and aggressive attempt to solve this issue ignored the simple fact that paying customers were unsatisfied. This seems to be a trend in other negative Yelp reviews. Mairene personally defamed me on a public forum, this was very unprofessional. My tone was stern and matter of fact. As a paying customer, it is my right to hold companies and services to the standards in which they were advertised. Mairene, this is directly to you. You did not tell Reyna to "call it quits with you guys". Both you and Reyna insisted we were "locked" in for four weeks even though our food was rotten. At no point in our conversations did you tell me we were out of our contract. Although it was not "my idea" to just pay for the consultation fees (which you advertised as "free" FYI); it will satisfy us. And like I told you on the phone, should there be any further issues with my credit card companies or collection agencies, legal actions will be taken on my part. *Response to Mairene. What does your response mean? Yelpers, I'd like to point out, through this whole ordeal, Mairene and her MPC Family still have yet to address the issue of their customers receiving rotten food. I was really impressed with the Meal Prep company. I work full time and am starting a doc program full time, my nutrition was the first to start slipping. I had dug around the internet for a while looking between meal prep companies in San Diego and only found 2-3 that had meals that were high protein and made for a weight lifter. I was pleasantly surprised that MealPrepCo was more than just that. I set up an appointment with Jimmy who met with me to go over my goals. He helped break down my plan with a macro breakdown and gave me recommendations for how to fill my missing macros (I opted for 2 meals a day) I'm doing Invisalign and was hoping to incorporate IF and he was able to work all of these elements into the plan. I've never re-ordered from a meal subscription service of any kind if that gives you any idea how good the food is. I signed up for 3 meals a day, 7 days a week to start, I may eventually cut down to 2 meals but wanted to go all out first and I chose to pick up my meals. I chose the Paleo option which was only slightly more (so worth it). My experience yesterday is what made me decide to write a review. Yesterday was the meal pick up day, but I forgot that I was scheduled to work my part-time job until 10 pm. I called to ask what they recommended. I used The Meal Prep Company while I was studying for the California Bar and it was absolutely amazing. It was so nice to have prepared and healthy meals during such a stressful time. The best thing about the meals was how good I felt after eating them. I never once felt lethargic after consuming a meal and felt ready to tackle study after each meal break. Because of this renewed sense of energy and clean feeling, I even chose to forgo the free meals that my school offered us during the two days of the Bar and instead packed my prepared meals because of how well they worked with my body. The 1-on-1 initial consultation was great and allowed me to set goals for both my cuts and bulking strategies. I cannot give this place enough praise. I signed up for their Meal Prep service right before I started studying to take the California Bar exam. Confused I called back to find out Reyna was also confused about why is says "free". She said she would try to waive the fee since it was confusing... long story short, she finally replied saying there was no way to have a consult without the fee even though I assured her I would sign up on the spot if everything seemed legit. I wish it were possible to give different stars for different aspects of a business. I was referred to the company by a good friend who knows my personal struggles since an automobile accident has left me unable to work out. And seeing how dieting is 80% of the struggle, she told me about this meal prep service. My intake was a bit chaotic, my appointment was to be with Mai, but she was out, and Jimmy was away on a family emergency. I totally get it. Unfortunately, the person left to do the appointment admittedly wasn't as knowledgeable about the meal plans and spread sheets and couldn't get the body fat percentage calculator to work. We both tried and it just wasn't happening. I chalked this up to happenstance because at the end of the appointment, I was assured that I would have my weekly spreadsheet by Thursday once Jimmy could get to it. I wasn't given an instructional folder about warming the meals and other information or anything, and the email, it never came. This left me in a panic by Saturday, to which I called the number and Mai answered. It was gracious of her to answer on a Saturday, and she assured me she would get an initial plan sent right over to me. She did, but in her email, she admitted that it wasn't complete. It was a last minute thing for her and she was unprepared, so I was extremely understanding because she took the time to at least put something together for me and informed me about special instructions. She sent it all via email. I expected to get a final complete plan, and that never happened. When I picked my first week of meals up, I had to text a number to be allowed in by myself and then lock back up. It felt very odd. This happened again just this week. I was never followed up with about anything, which left me disheartened enough to discontinue my service with them at the end of my 4 weeks. I sincerely hope that these issues are fixed in the immediate future, as I believe they have something of a good idea. I want to start off by saying i have been using the meal prep company for all my bulk protein needs since October of 2016! I am a NPC Figure Bodybuilder and have nationally qualified both times I have competed. As you can imagine quality protein is something i go though at a fast rate and simply don't take trusting just anyone with my foods and or how they are prepared.... When prepping for a show every gram of protein, carbs and fats are accounted for and if the meats aren't properly cooked (without oils or salt for example) your progress can really stall with the extra added calories. This company is family run and the level of authenticity and true care for you feels just like that. I have ordered everything from chicken breast, ground turkey, salmon, shrimp, tilapia, NY strip steak top sirloin, and even a few specialty grass fed and wild caught fishes over the past year! They cook their meats to perfection and keep everything super juicy and flavored with the BEST flavor god seasonings (salt free). Even when im not in prep i still count and manage my macros and trust the meal prep company for all my proteins to make sure i stay on track.
