This will be long, and this is my first Yelp review. The site suggested that I should go elsewhere (such as Facebook, or to Google if I had a gmail account), but the links for Facebook, etc. weren't working from the Yelp window. My sciatica (moderate to excruciating leg pain, caused by a herniated lumbar disc causing continuing nerve trauma) started in late May, and I was living in far western Illinois, I was, however, in the process of moving to Chicago, an enormous task which wasn't completed until four weeks ago. During the three months I was "downstate" with sciatica, I wasn't able to get any effective treatment at all, and they didn't even manage to diagnose my scoliosis (unnatural curvature of the spine). Some of the physical therapy they gave me was actually contraindicated for somebody with scoliosis, and I was only getting worse...I stopped getting any worse when I abandoned the physical therapy! "Doctor Tom" was recommended to me by a good and reliable friend on the north side of Chicago, and I made my initial appointment as soon as I knew I'd be available, within two days after I would be moved in. Because my condition had reached the point where any walking was painful and I constantly felt "twisted" when I walked, waiting for the appointment was nearly like an eternity. During the first two appointments (two days apart) I was assessed, X-rayed, and even treated with my first stretching exercises and Chiropractic adjustments. Dr. Bryant asked me if I was aware that I had scoliosis...uh, NO, I wasn't. Downstate doctors (even in not-so-tiny Springfield) couldn't even diagnose that for me, though it was readily VISIBLE (even without X-rays) to Dr. Bryant. He pointed out many asymmetries around my spine - knots on one side and not the other, tight or nearly-frozen connective tissues, strength and muscular responses, etc. I'm not familiar with the term NUCCA, which Dr. Tom uses, but I will say that there is a wide variety of Chiropractic and adjustment equipment at his practice, far different than my former Chiropractic experience (in the early 1980's) where his practice had one Chiropractic table and very little else. I'll have to "google NUCCA" as soon as I post this... I've been going three times a week for a month, now, and more than 90% of my pain is gone. After 4 or 5 appointments/adjustments, I was feeling a little skeptical, because the pain had increased again (though not to the intensity experienced over much of the summer), but he explained that the corrections are also painful because the body needs to adjust, and there's a wall poster illustrating this "S-curve" of pain that most patients will need to go through. My pain has almost entirely been chased away, and has now reached the level that I felt during the first or second day of the onset of my sciatica on 24 May. Dr. Tom Bryant is, indeed, a miracle-worker! I feel that I was close to becoming crippled for life - just my guess, but I'm thinking I was within two weeks of that fate. I'll admit that some of the treatments and therapy are uncomfortable. The 20-minutes-daily scoliosis wedge therapy, with me lying on my side, is brutally unpleasant (though not all that painful), but I'm thankful for it, and any treatment which actually moves a spine which has been mis-aligned possibly for decades probably will, indeed, be uncomfortable. Certainly that, and the combination of other treatments, is doing something wonderful. Wonderful, as in finally having the ability to walk around and experience the vitality, the variety, and the vibrancy (yes, the three V's) that the Andersonville and Edgewater neighborhoods of Chicago are ALL about! For example, the best Thai food I've ever had is only a four-minute walk from me. Interestingly, one of my big original reasons for moving to Chicago (or any of the other large cities I was still considering in 2016...from Los Angeles to Providence) was the availability of "good health care" as I live the elder years of my life. The decision was made on 02 January this year (while walking in 37-degree drizzly/rainy, ugly weather for a couple miles, actually my "perfect thinking weather"), and the moving started in February. Eight moving trips in all; the last four had me dealing with my sciatica (and, no doubt, making it worse). I didn't know that I would later have BLATANT PROOF that I could be harmed or endangered by rural health care, even before the move was completed. Proof that what a former Viet Nam medic friend told me about three years ago, that I don't want to "have a heart attack" there, was true. This wasn't a heart attack, of course, but if they can't even diagnose scoliosis downstate, I think my medic friend has been proven right. THANK YOU DR. TOM!! Being a 55-year old woman, who worked out three days a week for 3-4 hours per day, having my first back issue, (a herniated disc), was painful and demoralizing. I saw two doctors, took several pain medications, had an epidural and was still in pain. Finally, I took the advice of a friend and went to a chiropractor for the first time in my life. Thank God I did. Dr. Tom has changed my life. I have now been seeing him for four and a half months. During that time he has eliminated my pain and I believe made me stronger than I was before injuring myself. I have eliminated the prescription and over the counter medicines I was taking to mask my pain. Dr. Tom uses many different forms of chiropractic techniques. After x-rays and a thorough examination, he immediately began to treat me. He gets to know each of his many patients and takes great care in finding the correct technique to deal with each patient's pain. He and his staff are some of the most caring people I have ever met. If you are willing to commit to trying to allow Dr. Tom to "heal" you, you will find that you can reduce or eliminate your pain. Why would you not give the time and effort to get pain free? What could be more important? I truly believe that had I not decided to make an appointment with Dr. Tom, I would have dropped my health club membership and lived the rest of my life with pain. I now find that I am back to working out at the same level as I was before my injury and feel that, by being treated by Dr. Tom, I can workout without the fear of injuring myself. Marcie G. My problem started in the last part of 2014 with hip pain. It soon evolved into lower back pain and neck pain. If I sat for more than 15 minutes when I got up I would have to walk bent over until I took a few steps before standing straight. I was also experiencing neck pain so when driving it was painful to look over either of my shoulders. I did try PT but at times that was difficult to schedule. I started going to Dr. Bryant in January of 2016 three times per week. He also had me lay on wedges for my back and neck. After 3 months I started 2 times per week and started to notice a big difference. My back no longer hurt and my neck was doing much better. My hip was a little slower to react to treatment. I am now going once a week and feel great. Back, neck and hip pain are gone. At times when I am stressed I do get neck pain for the most part it is tolerable. My husband and I were at the Dallas state fair and we walked over 12 miles which I was unable to do before treatment. I use the wedges daily to maintain. I also have to mention Dr. Bryant's staff. I met Dr. Tom Bryant five years ago when I was having problems with both of my knees. Another chiropractor gave up and referred me to an orthopedic surgeon who recommended surgery to correct my knee problems. He told me I would be off of work six weeks for each knee but the success rate was only about 50%. After meeting Dr. Bryant, I began a series of adjustments and treatments and within a few weeks was able to walk up and down stairs without assistance. I am working with Dr. Tom Bryant only for 3 weeks and result is amazing by now. Initially I was very impressed with how he fixed my husband's spine-severe hernia-and saved him from surgery. At my age of 68 it was just time to take care of my modest problems. Actually, you would blame all the discomfort in your body on you age. Not always true. Better get some investigation done and try to find help. Very thorough analysis of my spine done at my first office visit discovered all the reasons I was having -those nagging discomfort, crying joints at night and numbness all over the body after not too excessive activities. Misalignments in some arias of my spine were on the way and could create big problems later. Tom pointed exactly where I should focus on my spine in order to correct posture and avoid long term problems. Intensive treatment, stretching, massages done in the office plus home work with blocks resulted in obvious success. Dr. Tom is the MAN! I don't even need to use Advil because of Dr. Tom's wizardry. Dr. Tom is a legend! In addition to literally fixing my upper back/ neck spine/ he does it while providing the most excellent playlist - you don't even need to ask.. He just knows you appreciate great music. If you like classic rock, and you even think you may have a need for a Chiropractor, then this one's a no-brainier. FABULOUS & REWARDING!!! I went to Dr. Tom for help with weight loss after having 2 babies. Doing fertility treatment and feeling like I was pregnant forever, it was extremely difficult for me to shed the "baby weight" and I felt dragged down and frustrated. Dr. Tom is excellent at what he does, he has improved the quality of life I live. His techniques through NUCCA have made a substantial difference with my physical activity level. He has been there when I needed answered and uses a variety of tools (i.e. xray, divisional weight scales, alignment check to see if your out of alignment) to determine what needs to be worked on. I choose him when he was in Skokie and enjoyed his bedside manner and professionalism these are all reasons why I followed him to Northbrook. I've know Dr Tom for many years. He is an outstanding Doctor and the best in his field. What impresses me the most about his work is that he continues to help and educate his patients with the skeleton / spine and neck areas. Doctor Bryant is the next thing closest to a Miracle Worker! I have been going to Chiropractors for the past 30 years! I have an assortment of injuries that never seemed to get better! I am an avid beach volleyball player and a terrible patient. Dr. Tom was able to rehabilitate my shoulder so that I did not need surgery (as was the suggestion from multiple consultations) AND he was very flexible with my treatments, accommodating my erratic work schedule I continue to see him as needed (routinely throughout the summer) to maintain my shoulder and fix other various activity induced injuries that I sustain through my active lifestyle. Dr. Bryant is an extraordinary healer. I've been to other chiropractors and physical therapists - none helped me. It wasn't till a friend recommended Dr. Bryant that I began to feel relief through out my neck and back. He took X-rays so we could see what was really going on and then set a plan of action. I could barely walk with the pain I had in my knees, hips, and lower back. Doctors wanted to perform an immediate double knee replacement and poisonous, toxic drugs. I started going to Dr .Tom when I pinched a nerve back in May. I could barely move and I was weeks away from a 1/2 marathon. Not only did Dr Tom work his magic but I continued to see him throughout the summer as I was training for my 3rd Chicago Marathon. I had the worst time trying to lose any weight. I felt like I was hardly eating anything and yet I felt sluggish and heavy, and not well.
