A simple setup where for a pair of sleeping earplugs (super comfy without a measurable decibel rating which isn't encouraging), a stirrup of cotton is placed into both ear canals with the injection of a liquid putty material which prior to setting in 5 minutes, your advised to open and close at least five time to help form any allowances of canal movement. You then choose from a few colour options, are led up front to pay, and advised they'll contact you in two weeks. Fingers crossed. Katarina did a thorough exam and to my surprise put in a demo hearing aid at the end of my exam that enabled me to hear all the sounds I had been missing all these years! How could that be? Well, I looked into it and Katarina is an audiologist while the person I saw (twice) at the other place is a Hearing Instrument Practioner (HIP). Most customers may be well served by a HIP but for those of us with a bit more complicated situation, an audiologist like Dr Katarina is needed. Of course she can help those with more common hearing issues too. Within a week or two after my assessment I got my own customized hearing aid. Over a series of complementary appointments Katarina slowly increased the volume of the hearing aid and showed me how to care for it. Right from day one it felt comfortable to the point I forget I am wearing anything - no problems at all. I found Katarina to be very professional, kind and personable. Her competence is obvious as soon as you meet her. She told me her oldest patient is 102 (!) and her youngest is in her early teens. Her new office is bright and attractive. The location is convenient and comes with easy, free parking under the building or on surrounding streets.

I'm not just imagining it. It's not just lack of paying attention. I really don't hear. finally mom can't say I have selective hearing lmao. It all started with a Facebook ad. For free hearing test for those over 40 and after a bit of asking it's free test and free trial for 30 days with the hopes that it helps you, that you notice its difference in your daily life and activities and that you'll subsequently end up keeping them. Obviously you can be concerned if there's anything upfront. There isn't. No costs at all upfront. I was not aware we walk away with hearing aid same day though. That was just amazing. I walked in around 1:30 pm and at 4 pm I'd been tested and fitted with a device. And apparently they can even connect you with resources and options for financial help etc. First step. Just get yourself tested. It's free to be tested. Take it one step at a time. Oh. And they don't make grandma style hearing aids only. You can have trendy hidden in ear pieces that come in colors. Being very self conscious and refusing to be seen as un-abled I had put off doing hearing aids for years. I'm glad I did it today. Highly recommend. From time I reached out on Facebook to contacting me was less than 24 hours and within 1 week I was booked and seen and fitted.

My work required good hearing, so I've had it checked off and on for, oh, 20+ years. Dr. McLean is hands down the best I've seen. Her pre-audiologist degree is in neuropsych, so she can clearly and thoroughly explain how intimately your brain is tied into your hearing. My employee insurance ended with my retirement 2 years ago, but I religiously see her annually and happily pay for the examination as she tests me again, tweaks my hearing aids, checks their condition, and updates all advice and recommendations. My hearing aids were pretty $$$, but after I got them I met various friends who went cheap/down-market and clearly regretted it. I doubt they got as good service from their audiologists, either.
