We were in Galveston for Memorial Day weekend and we came here on a Sunday night. They were shortstaffed so thank goodness I made a reservation so they seated us right away but if you did not make a reservation, they told you it was a 25 minute wait even though there were seats available. So other than the service being a little slow, the place was really cute. The ambience is amazing. I love the big chandelier. It gives you old-time rich vibes. Their menu has different options. They do have a vegetarian portion. The samosas were kind of like beef, taco mimosas that's what it taste like to me. They're red fish was really good cause the crab crusted on the outside and the sauce mixed together. I definitely recommend getting that if you like fish. I got it with a side of mac & cheese. It does come with veggies, but they let you change out the side. My mom got the margarita pizza and I've had pizza for sure but they do have five or six options of pizzas to choose from. And all the best thing was the bread pudding. Definitely get that save some room. It was warm with ice cream and the perfect bread pudding. I've ever had get it. There is street parking after six. It's free. There's a garage parking too. I don't know how much it costs. Besides the service, everything was really good. YET AGAIN. This place just sucks. I am mad at myself for giving it another shot. It's still a pretty restaurant and you WANT it to work. You want it to be good. But it never is. In addition to the food order being incorrect and slow, it wasn't good. The gumbo was a soup base with very little vegetable. It has chopped up pieces of white meat chicken mixed in and 2 decent shrimp thrown on top. The rice was undercooked - it was crunchy. The wedge salad had one cherry tomato split in half. The blue cheese dressing dressing was essentially mayonnaise with squares of not great blue cheese. Anyway - the island has so many great restaurants. Go somewhere with good food. read more

We went for lunch before attending a graduation event. The service was very good and the atmosphere was good- nothing remarkable, but it was clean and the restaurant was well organized. Everyone enjoyed their food- we had the wagu hamburger, Cuban sandwich, fish tacos and buttered chicken. Excellent. Chris was our server, and he was fast and friendly, and helpful. We have been to other Hearsay restaurants, and the food is consistently good. The Ambiance is upscale Jazz club, and the live music is always a nice touch. This brand definitely stays in my favorite restaurant rotation. read more

The food was just okay, and for the price, I expected it to be much better. The only thing it has going for it is the decor. As other reviewers have mentioned, the service also has a lot of room for improvement. I ordered my drink and reminded our server about it three times, but it still arrived incorrectly. They were out of the protein I selected for my salad, and we practically had to beg for the menus and empty plates to be cleared and for someone to bring us the check. With so many other higher-end restaurants nearby offering better food and service, I can't say I have a reason to return. read more

Just the ambiance I've been looking for on the Island. The dim lighting, wine glasses and candles illuminating every table created an elegant vibe. It's romantic, warm, and still accommodating for larger groups. The vibe feels elevated, but relaxed. I made a reservation but I didn't need to. If you're familiar with this time of year on the island, it's usually a bit of a ghost town. We parked directly in front of the restaurant and the hostess immediately greeted and seated us. She even recognized my name from the reservation list which was a nice touch. It's Galveston's restaurant week so we ordered from the special menu to get a taste of what they have to offer. They offer a three course meal for $40 plus tax & gratuity per person. My favorite dish was the Pistachio Crusted Scallops which is part of the 2nd course, and my husband's favorite was the Thai Currey Soup which was part of the 1st course. I also ordered the Golden Beet Salad for my 1st course and although it tasted good, it was missing the beets. We ordered our desserts to-go and gave them to our kids to enjoy which they did. Overall the food was pretty good which added to the overall great experience so we'll definitely visit again. One of my favorite visual elements was the backlit bar lined with bottles that glow beautifully against the wall. It's a perfect mood for a slow evening and a good pour. And, if you want to watch a game, the t.v. is on but it's not loud and obtrusive. It's not the focal point. read more

This is not my favorite type of review to leave but it is very important to share. The ladies in my family get together annually to celebrate Mother's Day. We have a large group of 20 people so we plan ahead with reservations. We reserved a table for 20 two months in advance of Mother's Day and we spoke with staff at the restaurant at the time of the reservation noting a person in our party used a wheelchair. Today when we arrived for our reservation, our table was located upstairs. When I asked if there was an elevator, the answer was there was none. I went to the hostess stand and spoke with the manager who stated, the only table for 20 they have is upstairs and she could not accommodate downstairs without a significant wait. Unfortunately, we have people traveling today and we couldn't wait over an hour for an accommodation. The manager (in my opinion) was not particularly helpful in problem solving. When I mentioned we made the reservation two months ago and stated we had a person who was wheelchair dependent, the response was I'm sorry we don't see that in the notes. There was no incentive to problem-solve in a way where there was a compromise and we took our business elsewhere. I'm not sure of the parameters for historical buildings but I will also reach out to the ADA as well. Two stars as the servers were kind to us. read more

We went to Hearsay during Mardi Gras and it was packed! Everyone seemed to be having a good time and enjoying everyone's company. This place felt very extravagant with a huge chandelier. I forgot to take a photo because I was so in awe. The bartenders were quick and efficient and we didn't have to wait long at all to be served or receive our drinks. Came to Galveston for the 1 st time. This place looked interesting. I came in and looked at drinks. Their Old Fashion is made with an infused woodford with almonds, saffron, and chamomile. The bartender, Montel, gave me a taste. WONDERFUL. The Old Fashion was even better. Had the charcuterie board and added jalapeño corn fritters. Absolutely delicious. Ate at the bar. We stopped in on a quickly-planned trip to Galveston and did not make a reservation, due to our last-minute decision. First off, the restaurant is beautiful. We loved the lights and bar and just the overall ambience. The food was also excellent. We started with an artisan bread board which was just perfect-3 types of rolls and the perfect amount that we got to try it all but not get too full on bread. For dinner I had the Salmon and not only was it delicious, but so were the sides of grilled zucchini and mashed sweet potatoes. My husband had the Redfish and he also really enjoyed it. So why only 4 stars instead of 5? Yes, we didn't have a reservation, but it was nearly 8 pm on a Friday night. The restaurant was busy but there were empty tables. The hostess told us that without reservations we would have "a very long wait because several large parties with reservations were coming' unless we sat at the bar, which we did do. It was a bit uncomfortable but manageable. The part that irritated us is that no large parties arrived in the hour we were there. In fact, we only saw 1 other couple arrive, but many parties left and there were even more empty tables. So we weren't sure why they had us sit at the bar, uncomfortably, when tables were available and waitstaff served us at the bar. In any event, we'd return, but recommend getting a reservation if you want to sit at a table. read more

This is probably my go to spot when I want a little bit more elevated experience while in Galveston. I love their price point, because even though it feels like a steakhouse, their prices are very decent for what you get. You have to make a reservation if you are there on a weekend during high season and during special holidays. That place gets so full and when it comes to parking, you would definitely either have to walk there or take an Uber. There is very limited street parking and that is one of the most popular spots in the historic district. We ordered the pork chops with sweet potato mash, and the red snapper. These items were very delicious, well portion, and very great meals. We also enjoyed the cheesecake for dessert. And it was absolutely the most creepiest and coldest cheesecake you could try. I don't know if this is a Hearsay change or varies by location but on the bone is preferred and only reason for a missing star. The whole trio was planned around j's chicken and waffle craving. Great experience here, the food was delicious! I had a reservation for 7:15 but since it was so busy I did have to wait until 7:55 before I was seated. I was getting pretty bummed but I was patient and understanding. The manager (I believe he was the manager I didn't catch his name but he was in a red shirt and spoke with an accent,) was very apologetic and helpful. Pricy, fancy, tasty modern bar and food. Date nite in Texas, and we wanted to try the best ribeye we could get. So we find this place in Galveston and take an uber to give it a try. When we got there, we were just able to snag a table. We sat down and our server asked for drinks. Started with some aqua panna, then got some mocktails to try. Server was quick to grab our order and was very personable and professional. The watermelon mocktail I got was refreshing but used a bit of the rind to give it the bitter elements to the drink. It needed a little salt to balance things out, but the spiced chile rim was a nice zing to the melon rind tinge. The meatballs were good. Meaty in a solid ragu. The chicken nachos were 6 bites of nacho, composed to the exact balance of creamy, crunchy, salty, spicy, meaty, and herbally. It was a nice bite. The steak we shared. She got the scallops because I don't like gulf seafood, and the steak was perfectly med rare and very juicy and seasoned properly. The grits were cheesy and creamy, and the street corn was sweet and creamy, but a little salty from the cheese. Everything was very tasty, but it was a very pricy meal as well. For the quality, it very much justifies the price tag but it's not nice enough to just show up randomly. To me, this place is somewhere you take someone when you need to know you're going to get a good meal regardless of the price. On our vacation, visiting our niece and boyfriend, we went to Hearsay on the Strand for dinner, about 3 nights ago. FOOD We ordered Kung Pao shrimp & calamari as an appetizer, along with a house salad, street corn casserole, and deviled eggs. As a main entreé, I ordered the scallop; others ordered Espresso-rubbed porkchop, cheeseburger. Out of all, our group favorite was the Kung Pao shrimp & calamari. The shrimps and calamari were breaded with sweet & sour sauce. Our group's least "favorite" was the street corn casserole. One commented, "it was bland and sorta dry." For drinks, all of us ordered Mock Nojito (Mojito sans alcohol). SERVICE Our waiter was Jose. He was pleasant. He provided good service. There was a guy WHO was working play the bar; he was wearing black. I saw him coming from across the room to go back to the bar. I saw him picking his nose! I know it's human nature to do that, but he SHOULDN'T DO SO on the floor! Instead, go to the back! It totally turned me off and lost my appetite! You just dont do that in a restaurant, knowing that he probably served food or drinks. Gross! AMBIENCE The Restaurant was packed, that they seated us upstairs , across the bar. It is well-lit, with various chandeliers and various lights hanging in the ceiling. Overall, with some of the dishes were "ok" and that server/busser/bartender (the guy wearing all black) picking his nose on the floor, I just can't recommend this restaurant. There are so many restaurants in the Houston area. I will go to one of them instead. read more
