Hellllllo Suagr, Hi Rye!!!! Let's Brunch!!! Location: Located in the Galveston proper, this place is super cute and is at the bottom Sugar's Inn. Ambiance: This place is cute! It screams Brunch Time. Some folks were dressed nicely and others were dressed more casually. This place is pretty popular, so there is probably going to be a line. There are nice beach chairs and a bar for you to enjoy while you wait. All of the drinks looked really good. Our wait was 25 min, but it was a bit longer and I lost track of time. They request a phone number, but dont have a corresponding system to text you, just a young lady calling names that you hope to hear. Parking: Parking is a bit of a situationship. My advice: read all of the street signs because some streets require you to pay and the signs are very faded. Street parking is available because they dont own any lots. Also, the Galveston Pakring enforcement were out giving tickets. Food: The pictures online are sooooo amazing. It just makes you want to order everything. Plus, the menu is very descriptive. Our table ordered the usual Brunch stuff the blueberry pancakes, French toast, shrimp and grits, and chicken and waffles. I would say the best of them would be the chicken and waffles. Shrimp and grits was an acquired taste... it was a bit smoky and not a natural smoke. More like a liquid smoke and the tomato base wasnt quite cooked down all the way. The pancakes were so big and they looked light and fluffy, but they had a cornmeal consistency that I wasn't a fan of. You could see the blueberries, but couldn't really taste the lemon. The French Toast were okay. Eventhough its not my go to, this seemed to be the best that we ordered. It is succcch a cute place. If I do go back, I will surely try something different.

Came here for dinner on a Monday night. We didn't have a reservation and didn't need one for two people. Someone recommended this restaurant to me for brunch but early in the week (Mon/ Tues) they open in the evening. The decor inside and out is very cute! Everyone we encountered was kind! The service was really friendly. The food was DELICIOUS, and the portions are generous! They start you off with a pimento spread with crackers and it is so tasty. They have an extensive cocktail menu and a nice selections of wines. I ordered the flounder and it was great! My mom got the fish tacos and she loved them. Definitely check them out if you are in Galveston!

Had a pretty poor experience here. Our group was celebrating bachelorette. It was very windy and after a long wait, we were sat outside without any nearby heater and we were freezing. The waiter ended up forgetting one of our orders. I got the shrimp tacos which were good although overpriced. The tacos came with elote which was awful (drowning in mayo sauce). My friend got the skillet dish and found her dish lukewarm in temperature. To top it off, the waiter did not mention that gratuity was included so I had to deduce that once I got my total. My friend tipped on top of that and probably tipped close to 30-40% without knowing despite the poor service. Positives: The coffees were nice. Corn bread appetizer was decent. The place was very aesthetic.

Had an awesome experience at Sugar and Rye! I ordered the Mr. Brown Old Fashioned, it was super flavorful, and perfectly balanced. For food, I went with the Creole Shrimp Banh Mi and fries, and wow... absolutely delicious. The shrimp had great seasoning, the sandwich had just the right amount of heat (FRESH jalapeños), and the portion size was generous. The atmosphere and décor were incredible, stylish, warm, and welcoming without feeling overdone. You can tell they put a lot of thought into the vibe because it really adds to the whole experience. Especially the Christmas decor around the bar area. Between the great drinks, fantastic food, and excellent portion-to-price ratio, this place easily earns 5/5 stars from me. I'll definitely be coming back!

I was staying at The Oleander, and since it's owned by the same people, they recommended we check this place out. We went on a Sunday around 11 pm with a group of four and no reservation. Even though it was pretty packed, we got seated right away in the back room and had our drink orders taken immediately. We started with Bloody Marys, which came in the coolest tiki glasses garnished with olives, okra, pepper, and even a big thick slice of bacon. Honestly, one of the best Bloody Marys I've ever had. For my entree, I ordered the flounder skillet: a crispy fried piece of flounder on a bed of jalapeño cheddar grits with corn. So much flavor! The fish was perfectly crunchy on the outside, and the grits were creamy and rich. The portion was huge too! I've seen some mixed reviews about the service, but our experience was great. Our waitress was super attentive and checked on us often. The restaurant itself is really cute and chic with so many menu options. I'm so glad I got to try it this past weekend and can't wait to come back!

Still good food but unfortunately not as good as it was a year ago. Love their specialty cocktails. We had the fried green tomatoes- not as good as a year ago. Last year I ordered the shrimp and grits that were amazing! This year I ordered the red snapper that was okay. A little dry. Still a nice place to come but just not quite as good as I remembered from my last visit a year ago.

Man this place checked all the boxes for me. The interior decorations/vibes- beautiful. Even the cutlery was gold. Salted caramel espresso martini- amazing. Brisket skillet off the brunch menu- southern comfort in a skillet. Beautiful presentation of all the dishes. The inside area was pretty busy on Saturday brunch when we went. I don't believe the do reservations unless you have a party or 8 or more. But absolutely loved this place and will go back anytime we are in Galveston.

We stayed in Sugars Inn upstairs, so we had to try Sugar & Rye for brunch. The atmosphere was fun and they are all decorated and ready for Mardi Gras! Our server Chrissy took great care of us. We each had coffee (good), and mimosas. My husband had the skillet with brisket and eggs, and I had the avocado toast. Both meals were delicious! We will gladly come back again!

It's more about the ambiance than the food unfortunately. Everything was just too expensive for the low quality of food we received. Starting with the L'espirit mocktail which was $12. It was mostly sparkling water and came in a small glass which was disappointing. The creole shrimp bahn mi was fine, but again, for the price it was pretty expensive and honestly mid. The fries were good and the shrimp and vegetables were good but the bread it came with was slightly tough, like almost stale. The goat cheese salad was pretty good but the salmon was over cooked, thin, and dry. Overall, it was pretty disappointing which was upsetting since our waitress was so kind and helpful and the interior was beautiful.

Staff was super friendly we stayed in Galveston for a couple nights and Sugar and Rye was our breakfast spot the hostess and waiter remembered us by name from the previous time which made it personal. The drinks were on point and just perfect to get the day started The biscuits and gravy were great

Stopped in for Brunch. Had a Bloody Mary outside which was much cheaper than the inside price. I'm trying to eat less processed carbs at the moment and the team was very helpful in making modifications. I got the S&R Burger with no bun and subbed in the fruit for the fries. The bacon Jam was the bomb. Reminded me of the old BRC spot in Houston. Overall a cute southern styled spot with typical American fair food. Some of the Asian inspired items like the creole banh mi looked good but I'll have to try on a future visit.

We ordered Sugar and Rye to go, so I cannot speak to the service, however our food was ready for pickup and on time. Though a bit expensive, the food was very good and we enjoyed a nice little dinner at our hotel!

Lots of good options on the menu, and I was craving their famous cinnamon roll pancakes, but then a server brought out migas to a table and I immediately knew I wanted that instead. Here, it's a little opposite from most places, you gotta pick your seat first then order as the seats, especially the tables, are hard to come by at times. There are plenty stools along the window but the tables are better and most tables are family style so you'll likely be meeting someone new. I also added a chocolate bread pudding for myself which looked really good. The rest of my group ordered the granny's breakfast with sausage, 2 scrambled eggs and Benny's tostadas. The food comes out surprisingly quick for as busy as they are. Everything was so delicious! I ate a little of the bread pudding at the restaurant, then eventually ate the rest over the course of the next few hours. Yum! This restaurant is highly recommended!

After you finally order you get to try and find one of their dirty tables to sit at then wait way too long for terrible food. The food could not be more terrible, this is what they call biscuits and gravy and it tasted as bad as it looks, I think the best way to describe the color of the gravy is orange, which is weird. I had one bite of the biscuit and gravy and it was so bad that the stray cat that jumped on our table did not even want it, but it could have also been because of all the flies because the little fly fan at our table did not work but it also might have been from the constant smell from the sewer drain located right in the seating area. My wife had a chicken bagel egg sandwich- not good....all our food went in the trash. This is not a restaurant it is a disaster, do not believe the positive reviews.

On the first visit, my dining partner ordered the omelette which looked amazing! You're able to choose your own ingredients. My chicken salad sandwich on a croissant was mediocre. Covid happened since our last visit too! I mentioned this place to a friend and she got excited over the building. Hearing her mention the building, I searched the business. Ok, too much so let's go with vintage. Yeah, that's the ticket! There seems to be an upstairs area wonderfully lit with all types of Americana & beach decor. That area use to have cots so druggists (pharmacists name decades ago) could monitor patrons who took medications sold to them. The marble rectangle counter called a "horseshoe" (it isn't) is the clue since it appears smallish by modern standards. The counter base tile. It may date to 1917. Great sweet OJ got me started & I recommend it! A tasty breakfast menu caught my attention so I ordered the Brkfst BLT w/Country Potatoes & a Scrambled Egg even though it was straight up noon! Sounded good to me, sign me up. After a brief search for parking, we hopped out and got in about an hour before closing time. This is one of those joints that serves breakfast and lunch, the closes. Noted for my next visit. We walked in and were greeted promptly and seated. This place gives off a general store with an old diner type vibe. I was digging it, feeling very nostalgic. The nice waitress took our drink order, and we perused the menu. With an hour left to close, I prompted my party not to take their sweet time. The menu has a lot of delicious looking breakfast items and some yummy sandwiches. In the mood for brunch, I focused on the breakfast portion, as did most of my party. All, with the exception of my wife ordered the French toast with bacon. I ordered my bacon crispy. The wife ordered a BLT of some sort. The food came in good time. We all got to work quickly on our plates so we fill our bellies, and let these nice folks go home. One of my kiddos complained their bacon was too crispy. Looking down at my bacon, it looked a little limp. I took a bite and my bacon was like rubber. Well crud. The waitress mixed the orders up. I could have just got their bacon, and they could get mine, but I do not like fingering someone else's food. That was on me, but if you do not like chewy bacon, ask them to make it crispy, and not mix it up. I started on my plate and woofed the French toast down. It was pretty good. I will admit I had higher hopes and it was a bit underwhelming. Tasted more of the griddle than I wanted it to. That being said, it still was pretty good. We all finished our plates, looked around the store briefly, paid, then were gone in a flash. Overall, not a bad experience. We will be back on one of our future trips to the strand. There were a lot of menu items that I would like to try. As I browsed at other entrees of other patrons as I walked out, I got a better idea of what to order next time. I would recommend Star Drug Store for sure. Enjoy!

We, like many other diners, ate outside - the window for eating al fresco is narrow so we do it while we comfortably can. We were tempted to get Roman artichokes for our appetizer knowing how delicious they are, but instead we ventured out and got the calamari puttanesca. Good decision? Absolutely! The squid was tender, the capers lent delightful brininess to the intense-in-a-good-way San Marzano tomato sauce. The only thing that would have improved the dish is if we'd had the smarts to order bread with it to sop everything up. Next time, next time... Dan being Dan had to have Greek salad. We shared it and I must say that I really appreciate their approach to this ubiquitous offering. It has feta, but its presence is not heavy handed. Don't get me wrong - I adore feta but sometimes it overtakes a salad. There were Persian cucumbers, small yellow tomatoes, thinly sliced onions, very fresh, crisp lettuce, and no pepperoncini! Now you might think the absence of peppers would be a bad thing but I beg to differ. Too often restaurants use them and they turn out to be tough and woody. For the record, of all brands we've bought, DeLallo is consistently the best. For mains, because I am just about incapable of not getting it, I got the boscaiola. If you haven't had it, get it! It's a stunningly well balanced dish of pappardelle, mushrooms, and confit chicken. It is perfection in a bowl. Dan got the rigatoni alla vodka with confit chicken. The rigatoni entree is what we saw on Facebook some time back that made both of us think that we really, really needed to give Gonzalo's a try. Pro move, y'all, pro move! Drinks: old fashioned for me and a whiskey sour for Dan and glasses of Pinot grigio. Did we have room for dessert? No, and that made me a little sad. But we'll be back! Dan has a birthday coming up...
