I had a pinup done by Carl and am absolutely in love with it! Prior to this I didn't have any serious work done so I was nervous reaching out to someone so experienced. Carl was absolutely amazing to work with on this. He was super easy to communicate and didn't have the aggressive stereotyped personality I was expecting. He worked with me via email giving feedback on general designs until we arrived to what I wanted. During this process I could truly feel the passion he has behind his work which was my biggest concern when finding an artist. The piece meant a lot to me and I wanted someone special to design and tattoo it. Carl was absolutely that person. The day of my appointment I had second guesses on where to place the tattoo d/t work and medical reasons. Carl picked up on it right away. Instead of getting aggravated he spent extra time trying to find the best spot. I'm so glad he took the time to do this because I absolutely couldn't imagine my pinup anywhere else. They sent me home with soap and lotion which was super appreciated as everything I have is scented and wouldn't have worked. While I was there the shop was discussing putting in a care instructions card for reminders (hope they do this because that would be great!) The tattoo is beyond what I imagined. Super easy to make appointments online but I happened to be in Deep Ellum and walked in for a piercing with guest piercer Jenny Joe. The ladies doing amazing curated ear piercings have quite the gallery on Instagram. And Jenny did a great trinity piercing. She was friendly, professional and made it as painless as possible. Great and thorough aftercare sheet. The shop has unique merch in front so stop in and buy stuff even if you're not getting pierced or tattooed in the discreet/ private rooms behind the shop. Microblading and piercings don't really lend themselves to being in an open tattoo shop space so this location is serving a slightly different crowd than Elm Street tattoo shop. read more

I would NOT RECOMMENDED a piercing from this place. The piercers only care about money and getting that "perfect" Instagram photo. Just in the last 6 months since I've gotten pierced in several places, it's been a nightmare. I have had to either pay more money to get the correct post size or take out the jewelry altogether and get it re-pierced (even more money). This is how careless the piercer is: 1) Hoops for fresh piercings. Any experienced piercer would know that using a hoop for fresh pierces causes the healing process to be delayed and susceptible to issues. 2) Pierced at angle to accommodate a hoop that is too large that SHE purchased. 3) Pierced with too small of posts that SHE purchased. Any experienced piercer would know do not pierce with heal post length. You should always use longer posts to accommodate for any swelling. I tried to explain the issues and concerns to the store manager and he could care less and allows this malpractice to continue at this location. I wish I would have done my research. I should have known when I was waiting to get pierced that a client came in and complained about too small of jewelry for a recent piercing and she was charged again for a longer piece. Stay far way as this establishment as they're not equipped to take care of their customers. DO NOT GET PIERCED with Afton at Ylang either or any piercer at this location. Do your research! Afton is no longer there but she's the one who did my piercings. She think she knows everything but every other piercer has said it was the more incorrect piercings they've ever seen. read more

I came in with the full hope and expectation of just buying a new piecing... that's it. A little backstory: I got my nose pierced at another shop just about a year ago, and I always wanted a dainty gold hoop. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago, I ordered the perfect gold hoop off Etsy (that's a story for a different time) and installed it on my own. After 2 weeks of wear and daily cleaning, I wake today with a puss filled sac near my piercing site. In my mind the only logical difference was the hoop, so I rush to my original shop for a new ring... nothing. Tried another shop, which then recommended Heart in Hand. I get here and I'm initially heartbroken because I'm realizing my theory of the Etsy jewelry being the problem is kind of confirmed. I also learn from Jeremiah that my site likely hasn't healed and the history of straight vs hoop rings and the healing process. At this point I'm in total awe and appreciation of this helpful info! Jeremiah then gives me the option of buying new jewelry (which I was prepared to do) but not without seeing my original jewelry, because SIZE MATTERS! Jeremiah really cares! Thankfully, and I do mean THANKFULLY, I had my original jewelry with me, and Jeremiah proceeds to reinstall it for me! To top it off, they also sent me home with some great aftercare info. I first went into Elm St. tattoo looking for a small tattoo, but the place was packed and they don't have a private spot in the shop, for tattooing private areas. I was bummed, seeing as I always get a tattoo when I travel. I asked where I could buy merchandise instead and they sent me to Heart in Hand, just a block or so up the street. When I arrived, I had no idea this was also a tattoo shop and i was greeted by Matt Van Cura, who told me he tattoos and had a private room and could tattoo what I wanted right away. I was so happy! She responded quickly & told me to stop by whenever I wanted. Once I met her in person I knew I will never go to anyone else. She is so fun & knowledgeable. She makes everything a breeze. She has done my septum, daith & 2 tragus piercings within the past year. When one was irritated she had me change soap & gave me a no pull piercing disk & a little salt to soak my piercing in & it healed perfectly. She gives the best service all around. Got my ears pierced by Lucy and thought the process was nice and everything went smoothly. She had told me to message her on Instagram for any questions and when I want to change my earring out. I assume she tells all her customers the same, but the only problem is she never checks her messages nor responds. It has been about 1 month of trying to contact her and my ears have been bleeding for over 2 months now and would like to talk to a 'professional' piercer about it. I called the place as well with no luck of reaching her. It seems like I'm not the only one who has problems getting in contact with her. I was coming from out of town as I was visiting family and friends in the area and wanted a tattoo to make my moment memorial as I have been through a lot in the past year. As my friend and I walked in we weren't greeted with the friendliest of greetings with the guy at the front desk. We however were greeted very nicely by the tattoo artist who received our inquiry from management days in advanced. As I was preparing to receive my tattoo, I noticed there was candy I could grab to take off the edge of the sleeve I was about to receive after four years of no tattoos. I was nervous and proceeded to ask asked for a piece of candy and he said no, I said, "I was willing to pay just needed something to calm me", the answer was still no. As we moved to the tattoo area, my friend accidentally knocked a framed picture down, which didn't break at all and fell a foot, and he said "Watch what you're doing this ain't you're living room ,this is a business !!" We apologized and it explained to him we were nervous as we are getting huge matching tattoos. I got my nose pierced here two days ago. Everything looked great afterwards, loved it. The next day, I noticed the stud was pushed in really far into my nostril... I go to a tattoo parlor closer to where I live and they said it looks like I got pierced with a needle larger than the piercing bar. I don't know if I'd recommend getting your nose pierced here. They didn't use a screw nose ring either which apparently is recommended. read more

Terrible customer service. Have been trying to get a cartilage piercing for my daughter for 4 days for her birthday. Between the 2 stores not being open over the last couple days and no one available to do the piercing. My daughter was out of school early today, took her to the Deep Ellum location, after calling to see if available and how busy, they said yes. We then went to the store and the gentleman at the front desk was very nice and asked about paperwork for a 17 year old and the RUDE "Manager, " said "no minors today, it is on the Website"? What does the Website have to do with me calling and walking in off the street? They were not even busy, 1 other person at the front desk... very disappointing and terrible customer service.
