Every time I'm in town I make sure to stop in. We don't have cool stores like Kinokuniya in Indy (would love one!). I can browse the stationery section for hours. They have a lot of manga available, I'm pretty sure most of one wall is dedicated to One Piece, which is one of my favorites. The staff is very helpful, I was able to test some of the fountain pens they have locked away and was able to pick the perfect one. It is always poppin' when we go, no matter what day of the week it is. read more

Their main items they have I like to come for are the stationary - they have so many different pens, journals, cards, and other supplies. Additionally, there is a lot of manga that is hard to find in any other brick and mortar store with a wide selection. Kinokuniya is an amazing bookstore. My husband and oldest kid are very much into anime, so finding this store was a great bonus to our time in this shopping plaza. We had a wait at Kura, one of the restaurants in the same shopping center, and this store made a great place to come check out while we waited. My oldest found a few items that she wanted and a gift for a friend. They have notebooks, manga, pins, buttons, magnets, and many other cool items to check out. Staff has always been very friendly and helpful. Plus check out was very fast, which was lucky for us because the first time we came here we had gotten our text to come back for our table so we had to get going. Now we make sure to stop by as we come try all of the other restaurants in the same shopping plaza. read more

Very good selection and you can spend hours shopping because there's so much to look at. The location is next to a bunch of restaurants, grocery store and dessert places. My kids are HUGE anime fans so when we discovered the existence of this place, they were mega-excited to jump in the car and check it out. On a Sunday evening at 7:30pm, they were pretty busy and the entire shopping plaza (they call this Koreatown) was rocking. The store isn't huge but they have a lot of anime -- both traditional Japanese and English. They were out of a few books we were looking for (Demon Slayer #7 & #8) but only because there's a run on them owing to the film being released this week. One of the workers was very patient and explained to me why they were out and when more copies would be arriving. He even shared some local restaurant recommendations. The kids wound up buying way more books than I can afford but they say there's no price you can put on an education -- even if the subject is Japanese fantasy action adventures! We love Kinokuniya! So far we have visited their stores in CA, Austin , Plano and Carrolton. The store in Carrollton is way bigger than one in Plano! They have a great selection on anime books, japanese manga, magazines and other little cute knick knacks that will always tempt you to buy (as they are just so cute! Kawaii!!!). My kids are big manga fan and will always look out for the latest manga and thankfully they have a great selection on English manga. I for myself just like to stroll around and look at their cute pencils, desk decor or other little decoration. We have bought many of their totoro toys and decor as well as shibe calendar. This store is super cute. I'm going to come here everytime I'm in dallas. There's a mini version of this store located in mitsuwa if you're in the plano richardson area of town. Same prices and same popular goods. But come to this one if you can because it has a lot more other stuff. Inventory: they have probably the biggest selection of studio ghlibi I've ever seen. They have these super cute puzzles and bags and little toys. They have a lot of neko atsume products and miscellaneous things like little babies. I thought it was cool how they had a selection of manga too, warning that they are in japanese. I couldn't find the persona 5 manga online but they had it in their store untranslated. What i bought: i got a 500 piece studio ghlibi puzzle for 35 dollars which came with glaze (you pour it over the completed puzzle at the end and it'll also glue it together). I got a shiba lunch tote for 19 dollars and a neko atsume key chain for 12 dollars. Pricey but you wont find goods like this any where else. The puzzle s you can find online on amazon but only the 1000 piece ones which are 30 bucks on amazon but 50 bucks in the store. Overall, cute cute store with something for every one and literally an asian girls dream. read more

I'm into fountain pens and fine writing paper, so when I heard about this new store I just had to visit. They have lots of options for affordable fountain pens (including Pilot Varsity, Platinum Preppy, Pilot Petit, and Platinum and Ohto pens in the $20-$30 range) and a ridiculous amount of ballpoint and gel pens as well as pencils. They also have Pilot and Platinum ink cartridges and Pilot standard and Iroshizuku fountain pen inks. They even have the Pilot Falcon and Pilot Vanishing point pens in stock. But the paper ... OH THE PAPER!!! Bullet journal fans will be thrilled at this store, the only store that carries the Leuchtturm1917 notebooks in the DFW area, and they have them in multiple sizes and styles. In addition, they have a HUGE selection of Rhodia notebooks, as well as Moleskine, Apica, Life, Kokuyu, and many other super high quality Japanese paper notebooks. Other than Moleskine, I don't know that any of the other brands are sold anywhere else in the Dallas area. It's worth the trip out here for the pens and paper alone. read more

It's July 27th, and as an update it seems as the stores gone through changes, it could be for better or for worst...It seems to me that the amount of books and book accessories have been decreased and an influx of mainstream readily available manga and horribly overpriced anime figures are present. I don't recommend buying figures from here as they seem to blow up the prices, an example would be a link nendoroid they had for 70$, when in retail value it's around 35$. The manga selection is nothing special, you'll find the same books at Barnes & Nobles for cheaper, although they do have an open section of Junji Ito books, along with generic western stylized animators "manga" with titles such as; "My lesbian experiences in Japan". There's too much emphasis in KPOP in the magazine section, which to each their own, but there's no longer any magazines on Japanese rock, Idols, nor anything related to music other than generic KPOP~ BTS magazines. They have a good selection of anime toys and accessories that are overpriced but there's some items I've seen from more uncommon animes that could be worth getting. Staff was good read more

Such a cute bookstore! Being from Oklahoma, Kinokuniya reminded me of Barnes & Noble, but Kinokuniya has a bunch of books that are mainly in Japanese. I love their stationary supply section and they also had a 'Studio Ghibli' section, which is to die for. The manga section is impressive; I have yet to see so much manga books in one place... but if I visit Japan, it'll most likely exceed my expectations. There's a lot of plush toys, specifically Pusheen the cat. I really wanted to buy the giant Saitama (One Punch man) figurine, but it was extremely out of my price range. They also sell Pokémon cards and other Pokémon knick-knacks. Oh, the bookstore is quite high in prices. Honestly, I think Kinokuniya was such a fun and unique experience. Super cute store with things you don't need but want! I absolutely love their pen selection and don't even get me started on the cute journals. They have an art section with numerous brushes and pens along with sketchbooks and pencils. Not only that but shelves of Manga to look through. There are also plenty of random things that work perfectly as gifts, such as cute soy based candles in adorable tins or plush stuffed animals. I think there's a little bit of something for everyone in this store BUT it is a bit over priced. I was tempted to treat myself with one of the nice pens but I wasn't willing to pay $25.00 for it so I picked up a bday gift for a friend instead. Overall cute if you're in a bind to find a gift but if you have time then it's great for shopping ideas... then find cheaper alternatives online lol. read more
