He was super easy to get ahold of, very responsive, scheduled for an inspection and cleaning within a reasonable amount of time....all unheard of in this neck of the woods. Matt at Hearthstone Chimney and Masonry is extremely professional and competent; more importantly he has great customer service and stands by his work. I recommend this company 100%. My front concrete porch steps and brickwork were in need of repair this past spring - some repointing of the bricks and repair of concrete. This was a small project and I was having a difficult time finding a contractor who would do the work (most companies that I contacted had a minimum project size). Thankfully I came in contact with Matt at Hearthstone Chimney and Masonry. Matt came out to do the estimate when he said he would and completed the work on budget and on the scheduled date. There was a minor issue where I thought a small crack in the concrete hadn't been filled completely - Matt came right back out to redo that portion. After having received an outrageously high estimate for chimney sweeping from a local Vienna business, I checked out other services online. As Matt had received multiple five-star ratings elsewhere, I gave him a shot. He was very fairly priced, efficient, and a joy to deal with. Highly recommend him. This is an update. Matt did an outstanding job stucco-ing our cinder block foundation addition wall to match the existing foundation. We cannot tell where the old and new walls meet up - which is what we wanted. He also installed a chimney cap to keep the wind/rain out, repaired some cracks and applied a water repellent to the chimney. I hired Hearthstone Chimney and Masonry to re-point the historic stone foundation for my house in Leesburg. This was a time consuming job which required removing the loose, and not so loose, mortar from all the joints and replacing with clean, fresh mortar lines that really make the house look great. Matt cleaned and inspected our brick fireplace inside and out. The job was done with no disruption and cleanup by Matt was thorough. He also spotted some tiny cracks in the mortar due to a mixing error made when the house was constructed in 1987. I know this to be true because we had to do major repairs after the earthquake of 2011, partially related to the poor condition of the mortar. Matt told us how we can mitigate the cracks to minimize damage going forward. Matt is a true professional and he communicates clearly. Matt did a chimney inspection for us as we are gearing up to put in a new wood stove. Based on his recommendations we had him do some minor exterior work which was very reasonable. In addition, we had Matt build us a custom hearth using some antique bricks we found on our property. The end result was amazing, he definitely excels in his craft. Hearthstone Chimney was the third contractor we had look at our chimney and I'm so glad I listened to the reviews and waited to have Matt from Hearthstone come out and take a look. We had a throat damper that was jammed and the handle snapped off. The two other contractors said they couldn't fix it. We'd have to do the expensive route and install a top damper. In addition, another contractor --Nicholas Chimney -- wanted to charge $200 just to do a "service call" to give me a quote. In the end, Matt came and said it was an easy repair with hardly any cost. While he was here he swept the chimney, inspected it and put sealant on the crown to prevent future problems there. Grand total for nearly 90 mins here doing all that was only $400. In addition he answered the myriad of questions I had about new fireplace doors and installation. Matt is a stand up, honest broker and takes great pride in his work. He's one of the rare contractors I've met for those reasons. I HIGHLY recommend Hearthstone Chimney for any chimney or masonry work. read more
