Went with the family to the seafood buffet at St. Croix Casino Turtle Lake. It opens at 4pm, not sure when it closes. The food was absolutely worth it. Prime rib, crab legs, lots of seafood, great salad bar. At 36 dollars per person with soft drinks included, very fair. Didn't try alcohol, so can't speak to that. But honestly, this is about the people. From the moment we arrived until the time we left, Desiree was on it. She wasn't just taking care of our table, she seemed to be everywhere, checking on guests, clearing tables, helping people, always with a great attitude. She noticed my elderly father was having some difficulty, and without being asked, helped him with his plate, condiments, and getting settled. The rest of the staff was warm and helpful too, including the carver, who was friendly and welcoming. One thing that stood out to me as a guest, we saw a table leave a pretty big mess, and it was a reminder to all of us to make things a little easier on the staff by stacking plates and consolidating where we can. My husband and I enjoyed the seafood buffet at Turtle Lake and we were amazed that there wasn't a huge line. The cost was a bit pricey but it was a treat for us. I didn't realize there were any casinos that allowed smoking on the gaming floors. It would have been nice to have a smoke free area. I walked out smelling like an ashtray and sick from it. Also, the cashout machines only do cash so if you want your full payout you have to go to a cashier to get the change. The lady joked it was so you put it back in to the machine. First time at this casino. Only helpful persons were the Security Guard and young man at the Customer Service Desk. Our group dined at the Restaurant inside. My guest were shocked that the only vegetable offered with the $36 Ribeye Steak was brocolli and that cost $5 more. The steak was not juicy. The Shrimp Stir Fry dinner was a little salty and the shrimp were small and the vegetables: bell pepper, onion, celery, mushrooms and carrots were fresh. The vegetable egg roll was crunchy, but greasy inside. Why couldn't these vegetables be offered as a side? The chicken Street Tacos were tasty and filling. The Deep Fried Shrimp tasted good. Our waiter, Alfredo was pleasant and served us quickly. The casino cashiers could use Customer Service training, as both ladies were abrupt and didn't speak pleasant to any customer. A person would not know it was a casino, as the outside doesn't have a large sign. Overall the whole casino is a smoking allowed. I was on vacation this past July. I needed to get close to the MN airport to catch my flight back home . I wanted to stay at a casino / hotel . I searched on line and found this place. After reading the reviews on yelp I was very hesitant about the place but decided to stay the night any way. Glad I did I loved this old school smoke filled casino . It was just the type of old timey place like old Vegas downtown pre Fremont street experience. Heres the fun --I won bunch of money - got great comps , and the food in the restaurant was really good . . My hotel room was clean and they even comped me the night - SWEET.The folks were super nice . had a great time . I will definitely stay here again - did I mention the great smoke filled casino ? love that fact --even though I dont smoke much . nothing like DRINKING , SMOKING , GAMBLING having lots of fun . I used to go to Turtle Lake all the time, but you have to spray your clothes when you get home because of the people smoking. all the other casinos have no smoking . they stopped sending me their monthly brochure because they said i didn't spend enough money. We came here because we had the $100 package from the Star Tribune a few months back. It was $100 and came with 2 free drink tickets, $50 free slot play, $40 food voucher and a hotel room. We went to the casino and ordered food from the sports betting area. Gambled a little on the floor. Went back to the hotel room and went swimming. Then went back to the casino, the security guard checked our ids, which is typical. However, he asked my boyfriend "are you good bud." Of course he was, we came from swimming and was so excited to go play our free money. But apparently my boyfriend was "too intoxicated", he wasn't stumbling, wasn't fumbling over his words. Nothing of the sort would show intoxication. We were kicked out. We had this planned for a while with the excitement to come here. The security guard called the "beverage manager" over and deemed my boyfriend "drunk." Which was absurd. They said this was an "entertainment" casino and not a "drinking" casino. Then why serve alcohol? We then walked back to the hotel while I called the supervisor, and of course that went nowhere. All in all, we were so excited for a weekend out, for once, and it was turned down by poor security guards and management. Not to mention, the first time we had walked in the casino doors somebody checked our IDs and he was under the age of 21 and said he was "told to do this today". I won $500 last week and another $500 this week on new slot machines. I don't always win at Turtle Lake Casino. I do win here more often, than at other casinos. The deli staff and food are affordable and delicious. The cashier ladies (A+) and man are very kind and friendly. That's why their tip jar is always full. :) It would be nice to see some of the security guards crack a smile, once and a while. Considering I was on blood thinners, I am sure I left a mess for the crew to clean. An absolute amateur operation. Was there recently with my husband. Promotion of the day was earn 60 points and get a free steak and lobster dinner. I had earned mine and printed the coupon. My husband finished his and we went to print his coupon, printer at the kiosk was apparently out of paper and said we had to go the the rewards counter. All the way at the other end of the casino. By the time we got there, we were told he was two minutes too late, and they completely refused to give him the comp dinner he had clearly earned. We spent so much at this casino but they like to cut off people when they are having fun. 2-3 drinks and they cut off for no reason. We work at another casino and we're also supervisors. We cut off people when they can't function, swears, and yelling at the players and floors. So, for no apparent reasons, they always do this. I'm thinking wtf...as the security or whatever they were, begins to tell me that 15 months ago when I won a large jackpot, which I had taken partial cash and partial check payment for. When we went back and had the check cashed there at the cage for over $5000 they allegedly over paid me $100 and proceeded to ask me to pay it last night, which I said I put my last $20 on me in the machine, I'm in shock this is even happening and then to get asked pretty rudely "that's all you have, don't you have a credit card?" No pool. Pool has been closed for 3 years. Although website states falsely " you will enjoy easy access to our indoor pool and whirlpool". Upon arrival, there is a large permanent sign at check in that states pool is under construction. When asked if it would be open the following day, front desk staff chuckled and said it has been closed for 3 years. When we asked why website hasn't been updated to reflect no pool...we were told casino runs website so they don't have control over website. It's hard to believe anyone would actually rate this hotel with 5 stars. I would say possibly if your a pirate hooker or a junkie this is the hotel for you. Let me start with the numerous "no drug" policy signs that welcome you at the door, to the syringe throw away boxes in every room. The hotel was probably the worst I've ever stayed in. I don't know what was noisiest the squeaky uncomfortable bed or the busy highway right outside my window. Was not a comfortable stay, the bathroom was hardly an upgrade from a jail cell also unequipped with fan. The casino was alright without much payout I would say busy but not many wins per person and rather outdated games. I'm local enough where I would possibly go back to gamble sometime but I would never ever recommend staying at this horrible hotel. I have been going to this casino for a few years, far more frequently than I should have been, but 2 days ago was the end of it for me. As I walked in and raised my sleeve for the security guard to take my temp, she snapped at me "I need skin ma'am". There was no one behind me and I was clearly raising my sleeve, the need for the attitude seemed unnecessary. As I started playing, a couple came and sat on the machine next to me. Not only was the husband rude to his wife the entire time, he was loud, to the point it sounded like he was yelling as he spoke to anyone who talked to him. While he was playing, a gentleman who clearly worked for the casino (black pants, white shirt, radio, definitely not maintenance, security, wait staff, he was certainly upper management) came along and began chatting with the patron, it was very clear, very quickly they were friends, discussing vacation plans, wives, kids, pets. During the 20-30 minutes they chatted, the patron kept complaining to his friend the machines were tight he "couldn't get a bonus for nothin'". The employee said he had to get back to work and left. 10-15 minutes later he returned to chat with his friend some more and his friends machine started hitting bonus after bonus, including a hand payout. That right there ended my interest in the Turtle Lake, WI casino. Apparently you can win if you know the right people. This place is the WORST. My husband and I came here with a group of friends. We first stopped to get drinks at the bar where the bartender Jody completely ignored our presence until one of our friends (a person she knew) showed up. Her service was SO bad we had to have our friend get our drinks for us or we would never get served. No big deal, like I've never spilled a beer before, but the most ridiculous thing happened about 20 minutes later. I was pulled aside by a security officer and asked to leave because they felt I was intoxicated. You have GOT to be kidding!!! I was absolutely baffled! I have never, EVER been kicked out of any place in my entire LIFE. Not only that, but the dude spilling beer everywhere continued to be served! After leaving, our friend who is a regular at this dump, said it was a small town and more than likely I was talking to the wrong person...meaning a regular with a jealous girlfriend. Unbelievable. Need less to say I will never step another foot into this pathetic excuse for a casino. I had stopped in for lunch while waiting for a meeting. The price for the Buffet was great 7.99 and my server went above making me feel comfortable. They put me in the back corner by the desert station which made me feel cramped and didn't have much room. I would say the lunch selection was good try had three types of wings , Salisbury steak, a taco bar and your typical salad bar. Visited my friend this past weekend who lives in balsam lake. Not much to do around these parts in the winter. This is a standard little Indian casino, people smoke everywhere...free coffee and soda/pop, $5 prime rib sandwich at the sandwich shop which was not only tasty but light on your wallet after getting fleeced from some tight slot machines! They had some table games on the center of the floor, I found a nice empty blackjack table...it had a $25 minimum, I still sat down and managed to win $200 so I'm giving this place an extra star for that! read more
