Update: my dog will cannot walk and has a tear in his left thigh muscle. I've been having to spoon feed him. Truly the worst experience and now I'm terrified to not only have other dogs around him but to be around other dogs because I was attacked as well trying to get these dogs off of him. It still baffles me that not only do people just not properly have their dogs trained but as I'm fighting these dogs off my pup and I'm screaming for help tell me how is it that these four dogs owners can't seem to get their dogs back yet alone come fast enough to act on it. Then there is the lack of accountability that really gets me. I had to pay a huge vet bill because people can't seem to follow the rules, have dogs with behavior issues, and have the audacity to be insincere about the whole thing. If you love your dog, DON'T BRING THEM HERE unless of course you're prepared to fight dogs off your dog and argue with other pet owners. This is my FIRST and LAST time coming here. read more

Upon entering you can either go straight to the big dog area or to the right to enter the small dog area. Some people do however, not understand the concept of small verses big so you'll see big dogs in the small dog park dog area and vice versa. The park itself is covered in tan bark. The Heather Farms dog park is located in the beautiful Heather Farms park at the very end of the park. This dog park features both large dog and small dog (less than 30 pounds) parks. Parking is located off the road in a small gravel parking lot, right next to the park. The park has multiple safety gates just in case a puppy tries to escape. The park offers drinking water for both humans and dogs if needed. There are multiple dog clean up stations with bags always being full and trash bins emptied each day. I don't know how I feel about all the bark covering this entire dog park. It's not that big but gets the job done, tires my husky out and generally all the dog owners are very responsible and welcoming. If a dog is being aggressive, the owners will do the right thing and leave. This is probably the single most important aspect of choosing a good dog park for me personally, as I have a super friendly and energetic pup that just wants to play. This is one of our go-to parks in the area. it is fenced, and has a little and big dog side. The park provides buckets for water and there is a water faucet to fill them up at. The terrain is bark and cement. There are also a couple of structures that your dog can climb onto. People will also leave tennis balls and other toys that are free-for-all. There are a lot of really calm and sweet dogs who come to this park, but alternatively, there are also dogs who are not the best playmates. More often than not, the dogs are well behaved. The owners here need to do better at watching their dogs though. because this park is so big, there always seems to be people who don't watch their dogs when they poop, and therefore do not pick up the poop. definitely watch where you are stepping, if you are stepping on the bark. We don't come here as much anymore because of the mulch and how dusty our dog gets. she really loves to roll around in it with other dogs, but she always has a good time when she's there. Weekly maintenance is performed on Thursday mornings so the park is closed before noon but I really appreciate the upkeep. read more

Probably the most popular dog park in Walnut Creek. I have started coming here more often because I like how they have a fenced big-dog section and small-dog section. I usually come after work between 5 - 6 PM. In the small-dog section, there are usually about 10 other dogs at that time. My dog is only 7 pounds, so I have to monitor him to make sure he's safe, but I've never had any issues here. All the other dogs are really friendly and kind. The owners are also very nice and responsible. -1 star because there is no grass. It is strictly bark and concrete. If you are looking for a place to have your dog run freely on grass, this it not the dog park to do it. There is a good amount of seating area within the dog park. Also plenty of parking. Heather Farm is a massive park, so you can walk your dog throughout the rest of the park. The dog park is also right near the Contra Costa Canal Regional Trail (which connects with the Iron Horse Trail), so plenty of options to walk around after playing at the park! read more

I love walking here as it is down the hill from me and it gives my pupper a chance to socialize. He's not the most sociable dog, so I appreciate that there's a designated space for small dogs like him to play. In both the large and small spaces there are some obstacles for the dogs to jump on as well. There aren't always dogs in the small section for my dog to play with so I let him run around for a bit then walk him throughout the back of the park or head over to Paso Nogal dog park. If you get along with elderly owners, come in the AM! There's a group that gathers regularly and are welcoming to new people and their dogs. One of the older men helps clean up and sweep the wood chips to maintain the park as well. I wish they kept a broom on-site as I would be more than happy to help out during my visits. On the plus side, there are water bowls, a hose, and plenty of dog bags inside the park. One thing I am conflicted on is children in the dog park... I understand that owners need to be in control of their dogs at all times, but in a space where they are unleashed it seems hardly a big request that a dog designated space be for dogs to run free and play with other dogs without having to worry about children playing too close to dogs. Approaching a dog gently is one thing, startling it to become scared and frantic is another. The only other downside is the smell and occasional lost poop. Obviously it's going to smell lol but before I am even a foot away from the first gate I get hit with the awful stench. Some parks are worse than others, this one is definitely bordering barnyard, welp. Regarding the poop, I admit the wood chips make it so difficult to find or see. I've gone to this dog park for several years now, and I gotta say; For the east bay area, this is one of the best dog parks around. And here's a few good reasons why... Big dog side: ~ About 5 poop bag dispensers. Almost full every visit. ~ New softer wood chips. I guess the maintenance for grass just got too expensive every year. There should be less park closures now, from this point on. Meaning, they would close this place for months, just for the grass to grow. ~ A few water buckets. Kind of dirty, but what do you expect. ~ Lots of benches. ~ A few shaded spots, but not enough. ~ It's paved around the wood chips, so I can walk a few laps to get some exercise. Small dog side: ~ Grassy ~ Plenty of room for little bitches to run and play. ~ A large tree providing a lot of shade. ~ A couple of benches and cement picnic table. The good side: ~ The dog fountain and faucet in the neutral territory near the entrance. Dogs gotta stay hydrated! The bad side: ~ The cloud of dust getting kicked up from dirt in the parking lot on a hot and dry day. ~ Sometimes has a compost / manure smell, as it's next to the park maintenance area holding piles of bark and soil. Big, clean, lots of great walking space, safe, great for big and small dogs, lots of space and great for kids too

One of my favorite free things to do all over the United States, is visit dog parks. It's a great way to get to know a new town and also get your dog out there and socialized. And lets be real I love meeting other dog friends too. This is a big dog park. Plenty of room to get those puppies running. One thing that I really like is the walking path that goes around the park. That is something that I normally do at any dog park is walk the perimeter. It's good way to train your dog to follow you as well. If that is something that you want to train them to do. We have been here a few times and haven't had any issues. Theres is more than enough parking and more than enough room for everyone. read more

Three stars because the good experiences have outweighed the bad. There are several regular dogs here with behavioral issues, and several owners that don't pay attention. My dog has gotten into numerous scuffles unprovoked. Example: goes up to sniff a dog and the dog turns around and pins her and bites. This particular owner was sitting working on his laptop, didn't even look up or apologize. There's a terrier mix that probably doesn't meet the weight requirements for the large dog side that is regularly in here starting fights. There's another large black dog who's name starts with an S and ends with a W that I have witnessed get into at least 5 major scuffles that result in the other dog yelping. Owners sit back or let the fight go on for 15 + seconds before attempting to do anything. Even heard them say "watch out he's not a gentleman" today. There are some really awesome owners here, but the bad outweigh the good in my opinion. I can't justify bringing my dog to a place where I've consistently witnessed bad behavior and potential for harm. EDIT 10/4: My dog did end up with a puncture wound on her right hind leg. The dog that bit her was a German shepherd mix, female. Owner was in his 30s, working on his laptop at one of the tables. read more

This park is incredibly beautiful with yards of well manicured lawns, a large fountain where you can race sail boats, and a huge play structure where kids can play for hours! Parking was ample and it is dog friendly as well. Of course dogs must be on leash and please do pick up after your dogs. This will definitely be my go to do park when in this area. Gorgeous park to enjoy in the amazing California weather (Why am I living in muggy gross Texas?). We took the pups around the lake and through the well-kept garden area. Lots people and other dogs over in the designated dog park, but we kept to ourselves and stayed along the quieter paths. This park is very close to where my friends live, so I am sure we'll come back when I am visiting them in California. read more

There's a small dog area & a separate area for larger dogs (and small dogs that like to play w/larger dogs). There's not much shade in either area, but there is actually some grass in the large dog area. The small dog area has tons of grass because they don't run as hard as the larger dogs. The drainage here must be pretty good because there were no muddy areas even though it had just rained the day before I went. A few benches are placed in each play area, and there are also free poop bags available. There are buckets of water in the play areas, as well as a water fountain for people & for dogs in the entryway. Plenty of parking, at least on a weekday afternoon. read more

This is more of a review of the dog owners than the actual park. LOVE the park. It's huge, has lots of space to run around, and has split sides for small dogs and big dogs. The only "meh" quality is it is super dusty with the tanbark. Now onto the people part... Who brings an UN NEUTERED adult dog to a dog park? Can you be any more reckless or irresponsible? The owner was not paying attention at all and this male dog mounted my (spayed) female dog, but luckily I got there in enough time to push the beast off of my animal. My poor dog was sprinting trying to get away from this beast while I yelled across the park at the owner to get their dog under control. His only response was to meekly call for his dog to stop it... It was an unpleasant experience for myself, and my dog so I leashed her and left. I will not be going back. read more

Really great dog park with attentive owners. I took my two dudes to Heather Farm for the first time the other day and I was blown away by how gorgeous the park was overall. It's a huge park with tons of fields, trails, green space. I parked in one of the adjacent lots and walked through the park before going into the dog's area, which gave me a chance to enjoy the pond area. It's too bad the pond wasnt incorporated into the dog park, because my guys were looking to take a dip. The dog park is relatively small, but well kept with paved walkways and benches. It is split into two areas; a small dog pen and an all dog pen. I took my guys into the all dog pen (even though they are both under 30 pounds), but most of the dogs in there were playing fetch with balls or frisbees, and not engaging them. I don't think it is anything indicative of the park, just dumb luck. So we moved over to the small dog area. The small dog area had a better showing on the day we were there, with tons of dogs and social owners. Many of the owners came up to me and talked to me while our dogs played together. Anytime play got rough or there was some... humping (well, that is the first time i've used that word in a yelp review)... the owners were quick to scold their dog or intervene as necessary. It didnt happen much, but I like that it isnt the kind of park with all of the owners on their cell phones, not paying attention to what is going on. The only reason I'm not giving the park 5 stars is because the water fountain is in the middle holding pen, and not in the actual play spaces. There are bowls with water, but most were gross or empty. That being said, I highly recommend Heather Farm's Dog Park and i'll be there with Whiskey and Woodstock again soon! read more

HUGE PARK! I thought we were driving to a small dog park by the water like the pictures showed, but this park is massive. It has a road that goes through it, that is how big it is. One side you have your baseball field and a closed in fence for what I presume is being used as a soccer field. The other side you have a full out playground for kids an a pond even for fishing. We saw tons of people there and were worried about catching covid, but the park was so big we found plenty of space to settle down with a blanket and our dog. We will definitely be back! There are trails for kids and adults alike to bike, walk, scooter, what be it! Highly recommend. read more

I have overall mixed feelings about this park. I've met some very friendly people/dogs and most owners are responsible, clean up after, and DISCIPLINE their dogs when they misbehave. However there are always the few that ruin it for everyone else. On Monday I brought my 6 month old pup here and she was having a great time playing with all the friendly dogs...until a couple brought their 18 month old german shepherd who has apparently had a history of random acts of aggression towards other dogs (per the owners themselves, other owners who said they recognized the couple and their dog, and per my experience yesterday). I was told the shepherd snapped at 2 dogs before she decided to take mine down yesterday-one of them when she wasn't even in the gate yet! My dog loves everyone and wants to meet every dog that comes in because she's super social and is just a sweetheart to a flaw sometimes. Now this is the part that shocked me the most. My dog got attacked by their dog, she was crying out and I myself screamed and ran to save my dog, and the male owner ran over to take his dog away. I don't remember what he said first but I heard "we're leaving!" after another owner made a comment to him. He did NOT even apologize to me about his dog attacking mine until they were nearly out the gate and I RAN over to say "HEY!" (...like what about checking to see if my dog is ok?!?). Then probably out of obligation he said "sorry about that, is (s)he ok?" I said I think so, there's no blood. You would think they'd offer their information in case I discovered any injuries later rather than me having to ask them. My dog is mostly black with medium short hair so unfortunately it's hard to tell. Well I didn't end up asking them because they seemed pretty upset as well, and my dog seemed ok... They then told me "Sometimes she's fine and sometimes she's like this. We bring her here to socialize her. We don't know what else to do... We think she's getting protective." They asked me how old my dog was and they said their shepherd tends to pick on dogs younger than her. If you didn't study up on the breed before adopting: Shepherds ARE naturally protective. That's why they are amazing when trained properly. You can't baby a GS... or they'll become dangerous if you can't control them. Anyway, what I WANTED to say to them was: The moment you saw her do something wrong you should have pulled her aside and pinned her to the ground by her face and tell her "no!" or "bad!" until she submitted. If you have her trained right she wouldn't even struggle against you cause she knew who was alpha and submit to you right away. It's called respect. The second thing would be to APOLOGIZE to me (BEFORE trying to bolt!) and offer your information because that's like your kid, and if your kid damages something, well, society says you should cover the damages. I've always found hit and run a shameful act. Lastly, if you KNOW your dog is "sometimes" like this then you should have a SHOCK COLLAR to correct them the instant they attack another dog, and then pin down and discipline verbally. It's not inhumane if you're using it to protect others from getting hurt. Because that could be a nasty lawsuit and expensive bill if your dog hurts or kills another dog (or person...), not to mention your reputation. So I hope you guys read this, or any other owners with aggressive dogs. Please consider the safety of others and your financial risk. There was also a similar incident with a grey&white 18 month old pitbull who latched onto my dogs cheek when she was a little over 4 months, because she was being, well... a puppy. Older dogs were chasing and picking on her and the pitbull got excited (lipstick out, testosterone on full if 'ya know what I mean) and grabbed her as she was trying to get away from the other dogs and he wouldn't let go. She was screaming the whole time and again--the owner DID NOT DISCIPLINE. But at least he asked if my dog was ok. No blood, but her cheeks looked reddish and inflamed. We moved to the small dog side after the pitbull incident because we were invited by some owners as I stood there shaking in worry about my poor puppy. Fortunately she went in and had a good rest of the evening playing with the small pups. This brings me to my final complaint about the park. There are some grumpy (women) owners on the small side that think they can police what dogs get in the small dog park. The sign says dogs under 30 lbs or weak dogs. My dog is skinny and has proven to be fragile when playing on the big side. I've taken her to small side as a puppy and I know she plays super gentle with small pups. No matter. Two old women tried to kick me out the park before my dog even got a chance to play with anyone. That is just prejudice against bigger dogs, and she wasn't even that big! "Ma'am your dog is too big, she's definitely over 30 lbs. She can't be here." I said we have a small dog (we we're sitting) and my dog plays gentle read more

It's the perfect place to bring the doggies or kids if you have them. I have never seen such a beautiful and colorful play ground! The dog park ont he other hand is just ok in my opinion. I do like how there is a section for small and large dogs. I suppose it has all you need, bags, water, some seating but not much. The grass is barely there and it can be dusty. My sis and I like to venture off and walk her dogs around the rest of the park and around the lake. I wish you could walk all the way around it, but there is a building that separates the path. It's also a great meeting place for long runs since the trail is just off the back of the dog park. Lots of bathrooms and they are always open and clean! read more

Very nice fenced in dog park in Walnut Creek, CA. There are two off-leash sections: one for "small and timid dogs" and one for "all dogs". There is water, bags, trash cans, benches and lots of tennis balls available. The park closes when it gets dark. Nice people were in the park with their dogs, plenty of talking if people were open to it, or people quietly doing their thing. Ample parking, has trails to walk outside the park for dogs on leash, there is a water feature (pond?) and the park extends to lots of other park amenities for kids, et cetera, about a quarter mile away? I liked that there were stores about 1 mile away. Since I had ample time to kill, I went to the drug store to buy some vinegar and then went back to spray down urine smells with a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water. Vinegar is a non-toxic, 99% disinfectant that smells for a short time and then goes away. It did smell like urine a bit in a couple spots and it was the least I could do after being able to use this very nice park. It could use one more spray down in the small dog section but then should be odor free. It did not bother me but doubt that has been done for awhile so it was time. Urine smells are often "marking territory" and dog parks are supposed to be neutral zones. I also cleaned the fountain drains.....which had not been done in who knows how long (you don't want to know what the drain trap looked like). Why mention all this? So others can know how to easily, safely, cheaply clean the places their dogs go to play. Thanks for the play. We are back home now in the Monterey Bay Area but will stop on in for another play date, and cleaning, when we go visit our cousin again. read more

Great location for us. There are almost always dogs there from dawn to dark! I like the walking path around the park, also. The big dog park is a little small, but it works. I get a little nervous when people bring their small dogs in the big dog section, but they tend to be nice about their dogs being surrounded and picked on by my pup. People here tend to clump together and chit chat about their dogs, which is super fun for me. I don't mind going without my husband for this reason. my dog loves being here, shes always so happy the drive here, when she first came here she was very playful but now she mostly keeps to herself because shes a little older, growing out of her puppy phase. i like this place because my dog loves it but there are a few times my dog snapped at another because other dogs would try to hump her and shes not fixed so when that happens i get a little stressed out. no means no! anyways, other than that its fun and clean, everytime i go everyone picks up after their dogs. space is fairly big too, we love it here and i meet alot of other friendly dog owners. read more

I have to give this park props for almost always being open. Unlike most dog parks in the area, which seem to close for winter, this dog park has remained faithfully open through rain and clouds. Thank goodness for the proximity to my house, it has kept my dog and I sane through the rainy season. She was just playing and one of the dogs was extremely aggressive and tried to bite her twice and scared her half to death and then stole her ball and when I went to go get her ball from the dog he tried to bite me.... what does the owner do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING she sat on her ass. Good park. Both the small and large dog parks sides are good sizes. Its a well maintained all grass park. The fences are all in good condition so no fears of my dogs sneaking out. There is an asphalt path that goes all the way around the fence on the inside of the park. There is plenty of poop bag dispensers and trash cans. Everyone I've seen picks up after their dogs and all in all its pretty clean. As with all parks it can get a bit muddy when its wet out. read more

All my stars go to the community that regularly visits this place because it's always such a great turn-out, even on slower days! I have a big dog so we go to the big wood chip area, which I'm pretty mixed about. There area lacks shade and now that it's getting hotter, the grass would be useful in cooling things down a little bit. I was also having trouble finding water buckets but I'm guessing there aren't that many. I love that there are many poopy bag dispensers and garbage bins distributed everywhere but don't like that the doody smell is getting stronger now that it's getting warmer. Other than the park itself, the people that come are super nice, the turnout is great - people actually clean up after their pups here (unlike in pittsburg). This park is wonderful! It's the cleanest dog park I've ever been to and the people that go there are always super friendly and nice. They have plenty of poopy bags in case you forget your own or need an extra, they have plenty of bowls of water and a fountain/hose for water.. They even have some toys that any dog can play with. I like how they have 2 separate sides for the size differences but it kinda sucks at the same time because my pug likes to play with big dogs also, so I feel weird if I put her on the big dog side. Took my 3 & 1/2 month old Samoyed pup to the dog park on sat and sun and it was so much fun! We went into the smaller area and the dogs and their owners were so nice. Of course my pup Rex had no idea what to do or how to behave so he got his ass beat down by the little dogs. I was laughing so hard and he loved it. We are hooked.... read more
