I remember Eiko, the massage technician, beginning with my feet and washing them while I laid face down with a towel cover. She proceeded to work my legs and back. Her hands are smooth and strong. After working my back and arms she had me turn over to face up and worked on my head. I got an excellent scalp massage. As I was leaving, saying thank you and goodbye, the front desk staff stopped me in a way that felt confrontational and implied that I was doing something wrong by not leaving a tip. I was made to feel pressured and embarrassed, as if I were committing a crime. It was very uncomfortable. Because the appointment was booked and paid for in advance through ClassPass, I was not aware that gratuity was not included. Regardless, being pressured in that manner is not an appropriate or professional way to handle tipping. Tipping should be voluntary, not something a client feels forced into through intimidation.
