You can smell the bbq from the parking lot.  I met Heavy while he was working on his smoker.  He was experimenting with white oak and red oak. Located inside a small market he is able to keep his costs down.  Lots of drink choices in the market.  I found you are gonna need a drink after having some of Heavy's Texas style bbq with lots of pepper in the dry rub. You order at the counter and the staff give you your order go as there is no seating. Pork ribs ala carte was about half a rack for $20.  Dry rub provided tons of black pepper flavor.  Smoking process gave tons of smoke aroma and flavor.  Center ribs were tender and juicy while the edge pieces were not juicy.  I liked the ribs but I needed a drink due to the heavy peppery flavor. Brisket was smoked in red oak.  Loved the smoky aroma and flavor.  Bark had a delicious black pepper flavor.  Beef was very juicy and tender.  Great tasting brisket. I visited Heavy's Smokehouse on the recommendation of a friend who really knows great food. He's never steered me wrong, and he's also an excellent chef in his own right. I also stopped by shortly after our local news featured Heavy's delicious BBQ, which clearly brought them a lot of attention. When I arrived, there was already a line of 15+ customers stretching into the butcher shop. For those who may not know, Heavy's Smokehouse is located inside Santa Fe Meats and is only open Thursday through Sunday from noon until sellout. By the time I finally reached the counter, all of the sides had already sold out! Thankfully, I was still able to try their brisket sandwich along with both the regular and spicy BBQ sauces. Their authentic Texas-style smoked BBQ absolutely did not disappoint. The brisket was incredibly flavorful, tender, and honestly SO good. Both Heavy and Angel were friendly, welcoming, and appreciative that I was trying them for the first time. If they were closer to me or open all week, I'd probably be there far too often. If you love Texas-style BBQ, Heavy's Smokehouse is definitely worth checking out. My only real criticism is that parking at Santa Fe Meats can be limited and a bit challenging during busy times. Get here early if u wanna get what u want! Got here 45min after 12noon and they ran out of fatty brisket and mac n cheese. The game with good bbq is if you snooze you lose lol. The service was pretty fast and the wait wasn't to long. The cashier lady was very friendly and helpful! So I got the lean brisket and elote (1 meat plate) the elote was bomb! And the brisket although tender it was not moist. Also lacking a lil in flavor but still tasty! I'm definitely coming back for more! I just wish they offered a couple slices of white bread onions and pickles like they do in Texas! Came through at 11:50am (they open at noon) and there were already about 8 people ahead of me...which told me everything I needed to know. Line moved quick though, and I'm glad I called ahead, the owner was super nice and gave me the heads up on timing. Love that kind of customer service. He was so nice. After waiting in line for nearly 40 minutes, we were told at 12:40pm that the mac and cheese was already sold out. Mind you, this place opens at 12. Disappointing, but ok. What stood out more was the overall lack of operational efficiency, it was difficult to watch. So much of what was happening could have been prepped and packaged before opening, which would dramatically improve the flow and get customers in and out much faster. I arrived early on a Saturday, anticipating a line, but there was only one person ahead of me. I reached the establishment at 11:50am. and ordered the brisket platter with brisket beans and spicy sauce, a single Dino rib, and a side of Gouda mac and cheese. The brisket beans contained a generous portion of brisket. The Gouda mac and cheese was flavorful. The brisket itself was satisfactory; however, it was sliced too thickly. In a sit-down restaurant setting, the cuts might be more appropriate, but since most customers are likely returning home or proceeding to their next destination, the meat tends to toughen as it sits. Therefore, a thinner slice would be preferable. The Dino smoked ribs were cooked to perfection, with a slight charring on the edges and a very flavorful profile, even when served slightly at room temperature. Dipped in the spicy barbecue sauce, the ribs created an exceptional experience. One improvement I suggest is menu consistency. While I believe brisket is available daily, the restaurant served beef back ribs on this day but lacked them when I visited. A more reliable and consistent menu or a dedicated weekend special selection would be beneficial. Brisket was flavorful and super tender. The beans also had brisket in em and the beans were honestly my favorite. Definitely heavy on the brisket but I didn't mind that.
