When we went down to the basement, we saw that there was water and the sump pump really needed help, to be repaired or to be replaced. Recommend this plumbing company as they are helpful, knowledgeable and professional. We had a slow drain in the kitchen for a while. We decided to replace the kitchen drainage as it was there for many years and it could cause slow drain. This job we paid 200$. But water didn't drain well after replacement. We asked them to come out one more time to clean the pipe. They figured out after cleaning with the snake twice and threw camera down to the pipe to check around that we have broken pipe somewhere underneath the cement slab. We were freaking out as it would be a big mess in kitchen plus the estimate in the worst scenario is somewhere around 4000$. We decided to do it anyway since the house is almost 70 years old and it does need some work on plumbing. We got rid of our old carpet, tiles by ourselves; moved everything in kitchen, covered the hallway. It was still a mess because jack hammer in the center of kitchen try to figure out with old plumbing system was hard. But they did everything very well and we are happy with the outcome despite of knowing we still have a lot of work behind us in the next few weeks. They were very patient in answering all my questions and concerns. I needed to know what was happening so I could update my husband who was at work at that time. We ended up paying 2500$ for that, I can't tell if that is reasonable price or not as I don't know other plumbing company to compare. But with the amount of work they do, and the result we have so far; I think it was worth it. Originally I wanted to call another plumbing company to take care of kitchen drainage. But after seeing their van in my neighbor's driveway; I did some research and decided to call this company instead of. Hedlund Plumbing came to my house on January 4, 2024. Their employee came and looked at my issue. He verbally told me what I the problem was and proceeded to cost out the job. His final cost for part(s) and repair was more than what I paid for my water heater! I have called and requested a receipt. I have yet to receive a receipt and a written diagnosis of the problem. I was charged $79 which I paid using a credit card. Although their employee Justin was nice and courteous I should have received what I have asked them for. They are expensive but do a good job. I recently discovered however they were purchased by another company and many of their terms have changed including an $85 assessment/gas fee for any job and if you are a landlord, you MUST be on site for the repair. For us landlords who have single family homes, are out of town, or have better things to do than wait in a tenant's house for a repair to be completed, this was a no brainer for me to find another plumber. Used to be easy to work with Headlunds, and I have been a long time customer. I am now trying Michigan Plumbing who accepts payment over the phone after their assessment. Update: In response to your comment Tom, I appreciate the clarification, however, it sounds like this is a training issue and not a misunderstanding on my part. I did ask the woman on the phone if the charge went toward the repair. I was told it's in addition to because of rising gas costs. I still agreed to proceed. It was when she stated the home owner had to be present that I told her in all my years using Headlunds, the repairman would call me from the job site and quote the job and I would approve or decline (which by the way, I've never declined). I asked her when did this change? She said it was new policy as of last summer since they've had so many bad circumstances . I told her I just used you a month or so ago and this was never mentioned and she stayed firm by this requirement. I told her I would have to cancel and move my business elsewhere and she said "ok! I'll cancel your service call then". You may want to review your policy and procedure with employees as this is not what was explained over the phone. read more

Water dripping from ceiling in basement bath underneath another bathroom. Was told it was wax seal. Seal was adjusted. Ceiling was patched and painted. After a couple months more water was discovered. Came out and discovered a clog. Tore up ceiling again. Cut some pipes and supposedly cleared potential issue. One pipe cut and capped that had nothing to do with plumbing fix and the cut pipe stopped upstairs air. Main bedroom, no air, three weeks. Hedlund wouldn't fix and stated could be sewage gas back up if it wasn't fixed right. Felt hvac people should fix. In the midst of discussion toilet had been squeaking and I simple asked them to replace flapper parts. That was done incorrectly and I had to call them back. Hard to explain how awful it was trying to communicate with this company even when hvac company was also trying to help out. Finally called outside company and a solution was designed and fixed promptly. read more

My water heater began to leak about a week after I purchased my home and Hedlund Plumbing was the contractor that Lowe's sent to my house to install the new one. They did a great job while maintaining professionalism and offering excellent customer service. I called them the next time I needed assistance and that was to have the gas line to the old BBQ grill that was in my backyard shut off and capped so I could remove it. I also called them once for a quote to renovate my bathroom. I did not end up going through with that renovation as it was a little more than I was expecting, but I still have them on my radar for the future. read more

These guys were absolutely amazing for us! We have a 1900's house that needs a little TLC. After it's purchase a year ago we had a problem with the bathroom tub cracking. We had been unable to get anyone to come out to even give an estimate. My boss recommended Hedlund for us and he was right. Tom Hedlund came out to the house the next day, had 2 different estimates for us drawn up by Monday (he came out on a Friday) after we decided on just the tub replacement he had an appointment set for us. The guys that came out, Donnie and Costel(?), were awesome and fun loving but professional. They did amazing work, even solved a few unexpected problems. They even were good natured when our over friendly fat cat kept disrupting them, Dobby got lots of loving I would 100% recommend this company. I was actually amazed to see they only had 3 stars. I believe the problem there is that not enough people write about their great experiences. I've spoken to several people who have used this company and the consensus is that they do amazing and professional work. I purchased a brand new water heater at Home Depot and called Hedlund to install it. Hedlund said they WILL NOT install a hot water heater unless I buy it from them. I've used them a couple times in the past but no more. It seems pretty shady. Someone else will get my current business and all future business. EDIT: In response to Hedlund's reply, I have no idea why a brand new, in the box, Rheem Platinum Series 12 year water heater would be a "liability" to install. It all worked out. My second call was to an installer willing to come out this week. I felt it good for consumers who purchase hot water heaters from Home Depot or Lowe's to know they will have to use someone other than Hedlund's for installation. read more

I hired this company to provide repairs to my kitchen sink after the cold water pipe to it froze and burst during one of our arctic nights in 2014. My home was built in 1885 and both the old cast iron farmhouse sink and the custom cabinet it sits in are not standard 2014 sizes. I thought that this was fairly well established when measurements were taken for the estimate. Apparently, I was wrong. I set the appointment for the repair for the Wednesday before the Memorial Day holiday and was told that all of the parts were in and the repair should only take a day. The crew came in and had so much trouble removing my old cast iron sink that they had to saw it into pieces in order to remove it. Goodbye antique and any money I could have recouped by selling it. Still, no big deal. Then the carpenters pulled out my old counter top and installed a beautiful new one. Great! Then, and only then, did someone realize that the original measurements were wrong and the new standard sized sink was not going fit in the non-standard cabinet. A new, smaller sink needed to be ordered for $400 MORE than the original estimate. We discussed this and agreed that I needed a DOUBLE sink for that space, even though now I was informed, for the first time, that I would lose use of one of my drawers in the cabinet due to the width of the replacement sink. Well, what could I say? I had no sink. They'd demolished my old one and couldn't install the new one. I was stuck. They said it might be in on Friday. I crossed my fingers. On Friday I did get a call saying that my new sink had arrived. Yay! Two nights of washing my dishes in the bathtub was plenty for me. Unfortunately, they ordered the WRONG sink AGAIN. It was a tiny single basin sink, smaller than most mini-bar sinks. We had to reject it, order the right sink and wait for Tuesday (as Monday was a holiday). Tuesday came and went with no call from Hedlund. Wednesday came and went with no call from Hedlund. Finally, on Thursday after 8 days with no water in my kitchen, I got the call and they were able to install the correct sink. HOWEVER, I actually lost access to TWO drawers in my cabinet due to the depth of the sink that the plumber never bothered to factor in. I called and talked to Tom Hedlund who acknowledged that my situation was NOT the way he wanted to do business and he offered me a $115 discount off of the job. For 8 days of take-out food, washing dishes on my knees in the bathtub and no phone calls on Tuesday or Wednesday giving me any kind of report on the status of my job? I will not be calling them again. I expect more from a company of this caliber. read more

This was great! I had a slow-draining bathroom sink that I'd tried for YEARS to clear, and then a slow-pouring faucet in my kitchen. He cleared out that bathroom sink in MINUTES, and left my bathroom clean (he cleaned up all the smudges of grit and gunk that came out), and then checked out my kitchen faucet. He said that there was a blockage in the faucet itself. When I told him that I'd be replacing the faucet myself (as a middle-aged woman, that kind of stuff often gets condescending looks from repair people), he didn't even blink an eye. He told me exactly where the blockage was, and told me about how much a replacement faucet would be at the store, and that's it! I felt HEARD, folks. I got a discount for scheduling my appt online (even though I also called to make sure), and he was in and out in under an hour. YAY! read more

Once for a toiled that needed replacing, once for a sewer line that needed sealing, and most recently for post-frozen burst pipes. - They do good work: I'm no expert, but the things they've fixed have stayed fixed. - They won't screw you over: They got it done quickly and the price seemed fair to me. Needed the pilot sensor on our hot water heater cleaned. Simple job done in the past with no issues. Hedlund "fixed" it and said heater had years of life left and was pristine, however, sump pump was dead. They replaced that at additional cost. Day and a half later no hot water. Told us gas valve needed replacing. Cost would be $1100 and it would take ten days. Found another plumber who installed within two days for $440. Hedlund had no explanation for this even though supplier is local. They also couldn't explain the price gouging. Will never use them again! read more

3 Valves and 1 Disposal :: Pricing got out of control He was on time and performed the work but charged $672 dollars..$63 to fix the valves...$99 for trip charge...and $475 for the disposal...another $66 for labor. If you want to pay nearly $500 for a disposal that costs $180...this is the right company for you. I've had Hedlund in my home for a number of projects, so considered myself as one of their regular customers....not anymore. I even asked the installer how much one was going to cost...he said "no idea" so I gave him the benefit of the doubt and said I wanted something comparable to the Incinerator I already had. The entire project took 90 minutes. Communication has been top notch and I have always felt very comfortable having them in my house. When they come out they have always given me a written estimate for their work and thoroughly discussed the project with me so I know all the options. And sometimes the circumstances do chance as in our case, As I write this two of their guys just left my house, the project was much more involved than they had planned. This is a big company the owner was on the phone discussing options and giving approval for some special circumstances. I used to hire them all the time when they were reasonably priced. I will not be using their services again because they have started overcharging for their services. I sent them to one of my rental properties to fix a leaking kitchen faucet because I did not have time to do it myself. The parts to fix a leaking kitchen faucets costs no more than $5 and it only takes about 30 minutes to do so. They charged me a whopping $290. When I called and asked them why it costs so much, I was told that it was because the leak could not be fixed and they had to replace the sink. I knew that was BS because I had just been to the property and saw the leak. There wasn't anything wrong with the sink it just needed new springs and washers. The only reason they are getting two stars is because they did fix the leak and they have done good work for me in the past. However, if you want something fixed at a reasonable price, do not call them. read more

The work was correct, BUT Please get a written estimate from them BEFORE you let them start working. I was quoted a price for a 40 gallon water heater, installed, with the necessary permit, over the phone. A mistake! I had asked for someone to come out and give me a written estimate. Michelle said she could give me a price over the phone. I let her and agreed to the price she quoted. When the guys came out two days later and installed the water heater all went well until Brian gave me the bill. It was about twice what I was quoted over the phone two days prior.
