This was a fun experience. I can see its geared more towards the 20-30 something crowd, as Heineken (the Budweiser of the EU) continues to maintain a market relevancy globally (they have done a very good job) through this hands-on, interactive, live Heineken "commercial" starring you, the tourist. I was happy to learn about their beer being a Reinheitsgebot compliant beer (4 ingredients only), no additives. So the tour starts with some history, then descends into actual beer making, bottling, a visit to the stable of Heineken draft horses, which are treated like royalty. Then onto fun and games, many cool interactive computer enhanced photo ops, and a cool visual experience where you are actually poured into a bottle. Then you proceed to the basement bar to drink your two allocated Heinekens with the rest of the tour participants, whom have lingered in the nightclub like bar venue at least 200 people were in there while we were there on a Friday afternoon. It was worth doing- Get the app for your phone as there are a few more tour options, such a "rock the city" that includes a boat cruise and visit to the lookout tower, and a VIP experience where you get a special behind the scenes look and some food, and much more beer. read more

A bit pricey but it was fun anyways, you do get a free taster and if you get the questions they ask right, you get another taster, i ended up with 4 drinks at the end of it. We also got a glass with it, so that was nice, they also offer a free ferry ride which i really suggest you to take, they do a great tour along the way back to the other location for the Heineken store. read more

I recommend this experience for anyone visiting Amsterdam, including those who don't normally like tourist attractions. Admission is 18 euro, but if you look through some tourist booklets/brochures, you may find a coupon or two. My group had a coupon for 3 euro off each admission ticket (up to 4 people). And for you college kids, there unfortunately is no student discount. For the price, you get three Heineken beers and a bottle opener at the end, making it a pretty good deal. To my surprise, the tour ended up being much longer than I expected. My friends and I thought we'd be in and out within an hour, maybe two. But we ended up spending around 3-4 hours there. I'm not complaining, though. The entire experience was fun. In the beginning, you learn about the history of Heineken. After awhile, everything becomes more interactive and lively. There's a lot to watch and learn, games to play, pictures to take, and you can even order a personalized Heineken bottle (6 euro). Overall, I enjoyed my Heineken experience, even though I never drink Heineken back home. The place is also located near the Van Gogh Museum, as well as the iamsterdam slogan. read more

AWESOME!! They clearly pride themselves on having a fun experience and not just a standard run of the mill factory tour. Throughout the tour there are interactive experiences including a 4-D RIDE!!! Ok the ride is a little cheesy, but you can tell they are just trying to make it fun. In the middle of the tour you are taught how to properly pour a beer as well as how to properly drink it. At the very end of the tour they have a Heineken bar where you get two beers with your paid admission. Add that to the one you got on the tour and it all evens out. The tour was 15 Euros. You get the tour and three beers... I'd say that's worth the 15 Euros. A definite MUST EXPERIENCE if you ever go to Amsterdam on vacation. read more

There was a very long line at the gate when we arrived and I asked my son what the line was for, and he said for the Heineken Experience, so he basically described to me what it was. He was there a few times and being a beer lover himself went for it. Needles to say it was all about the history of how it all started and a video of how it was made...in short it is just a bunch of marketing stuff and it cost 20 euro.. with a free beer at the end. They sure make a lot of killing here everyday. I would like to see a live production (not a video) of how the beer was actually processed from the steeping , fermenting and the bottling, This place is not an active brewing factory anymore. I need to start by saying, I have been a lot of beer tours. I live only 20 minutes from Golden where Coors has a free tour that includes beer so that is hard to beat. I went to the Heineken Experience with my mother who really liked it. For me, it was touring a bad club. You only talk about the beer for the first part of the tour (the bar experience is fun) and then then rest is just a show. I did like seeing the horses and being in the old brewery itself, but the rest was silly. Another pro is that you can take a free river boat tour at the end which we enjoyed. The boat ends at a Heineken store on the other side of town and they don't tell you where to go really. It was confusing but the boat ride was nice. Everyone will ask you if you've gone on the Heineken tour while in Amsterdam. While I don't typically drink Heineken... but WOW, this place is like the adult DISNEYLAND (more like a science museum for beer)! I won't spoil the whole tour on this review but definitely try to go if you have a few hours. It's easy to get there by transportation and about a 10 min walk from the Ryks museum. There was a short line mid-afternoon to get your tickets. I actually waited longer for the coat line than I did the ticket line. Lots of groups, people came in droves. Reading these recent reviews it sounds like there have been some changes at the Heineken Experience, and it seems like the Experience might be worse than if you visited several years ago like I did. The Heineken Experience is a cool way to learn about Heineken, its history, current operations and its brands. You will learn about the brand with which it all started; Heineken, and about the beermaking process in general. This 'museum' if you will is very interactive and aimed at visitors ages 16-35 ish. 16 of course being the legal age to consume alcohol in most of Europe. We had fun tinkering around with the fun electronic photobooth type machines and during the selfguided tour throughout. This is not an actual working brewery, but is located in one of Heinekens old properties located on the Amstel river. Yes Amstel, as in that other golden fluid branded under Heinekens corporate umbrella. The river came before the beer, by the way. The Heineken Horses aka Clydesdales can be seen (and smelled) and they indeed still walk around through Amsterdam making 'deliveries'. After all the learning, you will enter a pretty disjointed section with international branding and commercials, feeding your brain Heineken propaganda if you let it. When I visited admission was free and was an obvious steal! You got a pint halfway through the tour and had two more full pints waiting on you afterwards. Free beer? Count me in. We also received a free bottle opener, which I use til this day. The only reason I went here is because of my American husband, and because it was one of few places I had not yet visited myself in my native city. Overall we had a good time at the experience, eventhough I am an Amstel kinda girl. I think they'll forgive me, as they own them anyways. read more

Great experience at the Heineken Experience (haha). Service is great: I'm realizing this is a reoccurring this in Amsterdam. The people are super friendly and welcoming. The self guided tour is amazing with great opportunities to take photos and learn a lot about the beer making process. You also get 3 free tastings (more if you are nice, they don't mind actually), and a souvenir glass. I also got a beer pouring certificate for free, and took advantage of a Christmas special to buy and engrave their cups for 8 Euro: got one for each of my roommates for the Holidays. Tip: Buy your ticket for 16 instead of 18 Euro from outside the building. Provides you the same entrance, and you save $2 Euro. 10/10 would do again. read more

I consider myself a burgeoning beerie (read: beer version of a foodie). For this reason, I often try and tour breweries. I must say, The Heineken Experience is my favorite brewery tour. The experience involves several levels, full of theatrics, simulations, tastings, and historical information. At the end, you can either kick back with a couple of pints, or even learn how to pour the perfect glass! Not only is Heineken delicious, but this brewery tour is surely an experience. This was our Saturday afternoon activity as I showed my friend around Amsterdam. Always worth the visit. The experience starts with a short history lesson about Heineken, it's founders, and their culture. Then you learn about how beer is made, walk through their old brewing tanks, and got to see some of the Heineken horses at their stable. As a part of the experience, you are "bottled into a beer" through a combination of visual effects and sounds, and then they give you a small glass of Heineken. I LOVED IT. And let me add, I'm not even a big beer fan but this is by far the BEST brewery tour I have done and Heineken really impressed me as a brand. This was a great experience! I've been to brewery tours in the US and this is the best one I've been to. I really enjoyed every part of it. It wasn't too dragged out and boring like some can get when they bore you with too many unnecessary details. It was very short and sweet; that goes the same for the literature on the wall throughout. It would have been much longer if it had. There's a lot to it! They have horses, a "ride" that takes you through the beer making process and ends in a "party", two stations for samples, oliebollens as you wait outside in the line, a free keychain as you leave, tons of cool stuff in the gift shop, an awesome bar area where you enjoy your two beers, plenty of awesome picture spots and a very friendly staff! I'm sure I left a few things out but it was worth every penny and I strongly recommend anyone visiting Amsterdam to go as it's the first ever built Heineken brewery. read more

You get to walk through the history of Heineken as a brand, see how beer is made (you become beer!) and afterwards, there's (a few) drinks in it for you! Had really good time. We learned a lot about how they make their beer. I think my husband had the most fun in the gift shop. I do not know how many times we have been back. I do not know how many personalized glasses and beer bottles we have bought. They make excellent gifts. I think I still have one in my cupboard now. It was a short distance from our hotel so we went often. We didn't buy beer there. Actually, it was cheaper across the street at this little dive bar. We bought gifts, i.e tourist items. This is an interesting experience if you are a huge fan of Heineken. Otherwise it is just OK. It is more of an exposure to their history of marketing than it is to the product and the process. There are several places throughout the experience to watch commercials over the years. i prefer brewery tours that focus more on the process. Let me first disclose that I love Heineken, and that'll probably taint my review a bit, but you were forewarned. Ever since planning my first Europe trip, I decided I really wanted to go here because I love the beer and hey, 2 "free" drinks?! I found out through the public transport map that there was a discount, and all you had to do was hand in the little coupon. Sold. The experience itself is done at your own pace and I must say, there are quite a lot of multimedia presentations and hands on experiences for you to do. You even get a small glass to "taste" before your actual 2 drinks in the downstairs bar area. You can use two tokens for them to show you how to pour your own beer (and for you to try it yourself!) or you can get two beers poured by Heineken staff. Buy your tickets in advance. Even if you have a reservation/ticket at a certain time, you may still have to wait. If you don't have tickets? You may be in line for hours. Luckily, they take free polaroids and also pass out bitterballen while you wait. Once inside, it's extremely crowded, and most of the 'stops' are not that interesting. You get to taste test some parts of the beer process, plus get two beers (or Pepsis) at the end with your tickets, which is a good deal for the money. The wait in line to get your first beer, though, is ridiculously long, so we somehow managed to skip it because waiting in line 1.5 hours for one beer after you've already waited in line to get in somewhere is ridiculous. The 'club' area where you get your beers has sticky floors but it's quite fun mingling with people from other countries there. read more

This is a very interesting experience at least, and as I've been on a few other brewery tours I can probably say that aside from the Anheuser-Busch Tour in St. Louis, No other brewery I've seen gives as extensive a look in the beermaking process as this one. That said, I've also been spoiled by free tours in the U.S., so comparatively I'm having a bit of trouble justifying the price point on this one. For a self-guided tour to be 18 euros, that's a bit of a steep price to pay consider I've been to similar(again see the free Anheuser-Busch Tour). The one question that you'll constantly have throughout this tour is "What the hell does any of this have to do with beer?". This applies especially to the latter part, after the brewing process, where you just have colorful rooms filled with kinects, a sports room where you can play various games, a beer-pouring game to test your virtual pour skills, and two lounge areas that seem more Club Heineken than Brewery. You do get 3 free beers through the tour, and the bar at the end of it is for its credit a pretty fun place to hang out. Regardless, it is a mix of a brewery tour/psychedelic experience(oh Amsterdam), with a healthy dose of propaganda and over-the-top marketing. The Heineken Experience is fairly expensive (€18) and very commercialized, but it was a still a great way to spend a rainy afternoon in Amsterdam. The self guided tour had a nice mix of history, learning about how beer is made and entertainment. This location is no longer a working brewery (it is where the original brewery was located), but Heineken had some gimmicky/creative ways of making sure you don't fret over that small detail. ;) It's more like a kids' museum than a brewery with lots of interactive exhibits. The tour is more about the marketing idea of Heineken rather than the beer production. So you will be a little bit disappointed if you want to gain a deeper knowledge about the beer production. Anyway the tour is well organized and funny. You can even download as well an app (free of charge) to have a guided tour. In the price 18 € on site (16 € if you buy the ticket on line) are included two beers at the end of the tour and a gadget (to be picked up in the Heineken Shop in the centre of the city). I am not a beer drinker but I had to go see the birthplace of the Heineken. It was a very interactive experience and they gave you 2 drinks on the house, which would be very good for a beer drinker. It was really cool seeing the process of making beer. They gave you an opportunity to make you own personalized Heineken bottle, but the machines were very faulty and confusing so I do have to nick them a star for that. Ok, I will admit, I'm not much for touristy spots when I visit Europe. But we finally broke down and toured the Heineken Experience in Amsterdam and let me tell you, it was exceptional. I would recommend it to any visitor, beer drinker or not. The tour takes place in the old Heineken brewery, so there's no looking at things through inch-thick glass. Everything is up-close and interactive. You start by learning the history of the company, the beer, and the brand. From there you move to production where you go station by station learning what makes Hekneken, Heineken! They even let you sample the components at their various stages. Very interactive. Then, you move on to your first tasting. They go over the characteristics of the beer (it's golden, not yellow), the flavor elements, why they leave a head on it, and how to drink it. From there you move on to a mild ride where you "get brewed into Heineken." You get the opportunity to customize a Heineken bottle and then best of all, two free Heinekens. When we went, they were offering lunch on the rooftop for 8 euro extra. Well worth it. One more Heineken and a delicious burger with great views of the city! read more

Very touristy of course, but lots to see & do with a few free beers added. Got our tickets online ahead of time so we pretty much walked right in to start the self guided tour. I expected more of a historical type of museum and a thorough explanation of brewing the beers...like how they depict factories in reading rainbow...but you get the jest of brewery. The beginning of the tour has a brief history of how Heineken started. There's also a lot of photog opt in the beginning. But most of the brewery is truly an 'experience' with your ticket you get to receive either 2 beers or 1 iced cupped bear. There's two sections at the end where you can either pour your own beer and get a certificate (the line was super long) or a bar type area on the other side where there's Dutch girls serving pieces of cheese and sausages too! The ride reminded me a more wack version of the "honey I shrunk the audience" at Disneyland. Got quite dizzy too. But overall the Heineken brewery is the best touristy spot in Amsterdam! read more

This is a must-see if you drink beer, and are in Amsterdam. My husband and I love trying beer and visiting local breweries, and both of us agreed this is the best brewery experience we have ever had (even better than Anheuser-Busch!). I bought our tickets online for 15 euros each, and we were able to walk right in. The tour is self-guided, but extremely interactive. You start with a quick video in English, and then get to stop to select a backdrop where you can use your camera to take a fun photo of yourself. You continue to a room where you get to help grind grains, stir the boiling hops, and taste some wort. Then, you get to have a quick guided tasting of a small glass of beer. There is a "ride" where you get to experience all the stages of making a bottle of beer. There are also a bunch of rooms dedicated to the history or Heineken's past and present advertising, which are pretty cool. At the very end, you get a couple glasses of beer and there is a gift shop. The experience took about 1 1/2 to 2 hours, start to finish, and was so much more fun than I could have imagined! read more

The Heineken Experience was by far one of my favourite parts of my Amsterdam visit. maybe that sounds like i'm just keen to drink lots of beer, but this experience was way more than a few pints of heineken. it was a proper experience, not a tour and really enjoyable. i liked being able to learn about the history of the company as we walked through the original brewery which included the stables with gorgeous horses and an original cart that was used to transport the beer. additionally the heineken experience app was pretty cool as it had all the videos from each room on it, so you could watch them as you went along instead of having to wait for each to re-start from the begining. there's also free wi-fi, a cool 'ride' where you are turned into a beer, and of course the actual tasting session. before getting to the final bar you can sit in some cool chairs and watch heineken adverts through the years, take pictures on a heinken bike, make your own advert, and bottle your own beer with a personalised label. as part of your ticket cost you can also opt to pour your own beer or get two beers poured by a bartedner. definitely a great tourist destination and a really fun way to spend a few hours! read more

This is the second time that I have been to the Heineken Experience and I havent been let down yet. Yes it is a touristy, but it is fun! It is a self guided tour through the factory while learning an extensive view of making beer. Throughout the tour there are stops to learn about the yeast, wort, and hops, how to pour a pint of Heineken as well as a ride! At the end there are several lounges and interactive games and even can make your own music video. The tour ends with 2 pints of heineken fresh from the tap. While we were leaving we noticed that if you had just gone on a tour they offer a free canal trip, it was fantastic! We were planning on taking a canal ride as it was so this hit the nail on the head. The tour ends at their Brand store in Rembrandt plaza where they give you free Heineken glasses. While tour was fun, it does not really offer much info on how the beer is made. It is more of a brewery history. You do learn a little about the special A yeast and all that, but at no point on the tour are you actually in the brewery where real Heineken is made. For 18 euros, you get at least 3 or 4 beers, a lesson in how to pour a perfect beer from the tap, a history of the brewery, a beer making simulator ride and a few games and commercial viewings.
