Because this is an interactive experience, personally I think "who" you go with is what makes it even more enjoyable. I went with a bunch of beer-loving 20-somethings so the experience felt something like a tipsy educational post-grad party for us. The very last room where they serve the beer was really cool because there was a live DJ and a whole bunch of areas to just chill, drink, and socialize. It was pretty much an awesome bar inside a museum. Well aside from what everyone else already said, if you're in Amsterdam with some fun people, €18 at the door for an entertaining 2-3hrs with 3 or more Heineken beers if you're lucky is definitely worth the experience you may or may not remember. read more

Had to make this one of my stops while in Amsterdam. Although it wasn't as good as the Guinness tour in Dublin, I would still recommend going. The staff were great and there were plenty of things to do during the tour. Better with a group! Definitely a touristy spot but worth the trip. Prost! read more

Average time. Got 3 beers which was nice. Tour guides did not seem like they knew what they were talking about. One of them was mentioning the elements used to make beer, "earth, fire, water, and air... or something like that" -- not sure where she was going with that... didn't make me feel like I was really learning about Heineken or the brewing process. One of them pointed out how boring the first part of the tour was -- doesn't seem like a good marketing tactic. However, all of the staff were very kind. After being here twice, I would recommend this place as a must visit for 1st time visitors. They do a good job interacting the patrons with the history of Heineken. They teach you how to drink beer and at the end of the tour, you get 2 large cups of beer. The 2nd time I visited, they added a free gift component to your ticket, but you have to trek about 15 minutes to their gift shop (which they have a boat that leaves every hour as well if you don't want to walk). read more

Writing this review my shoes are sticking to the floor of the bar where the tour ends like some frat house basement. Having prepurchased my ticket my Heineken Experience started with 40 minutes in line. Upon entering we were told in small groups the experience is self guided (typical, OK). The first few rooms are concrete blocks with awful acoustics and guides already mid-lectiure. The guides who weren't presenting wanted nothing to so with talking to guests. The ride and interactive elements were all without background or context and all just felt to make me nauseous having not consumed anything. Loved stopping by the home of Heineken while in Amsterdam! The tour was very informative and the trials were tasty!

This was an excellent value tour! First off, skip the lines and save a couple of Euros and buy your ticket for this at one the tourism ticket booths they have around the city. You get in for $2 cheaper AND you get to cut in line. Yes, cut in line, all the way to the front. There was a line to buy tickets halfway around the block and we bypassed all the people because we already had our tickets. (most of Europe is like this) The tour was cool. There's one part where you watch a video of the packaging process and the room you're in shakes and stuff. It's kinda like the Bug's Life show at Disneyland. You also get three beers on the tour. the first one is smallish. The second two in the bar are good sized. At the end of the tour you get a "Free Gift". This was a 30 minute hop-on cruise in their boat right outside the front of the brewery that takes you over to their store. The cruise was cool and you can buy drinks on board for a nominal cost. Once you arrive at the store, you can redeem your gift button for a free Heineken glass. If you want to pay $1 Euro, they will engrave things on it. I got my name and date put on it. Save your euros. This museum feels gimmicky and is too crowded as they move waves of visitors through tight, maze like rooms. The old Heineken bottles and ads are the most interesting aspects of the museum. I enjoyed the tasting in the horse barns and due to the season, they had fresh oliebollen, which were delicious. I was looking forward to trying other Heineken beers such as their dark beer or wild lager but "the taps were out". Apparently they are always out, as everyone else I know who has visited the museum over the years was also told these beers are unavailable. If you like plain Heineken, just go to one of the many bars in Amsterdam and get cheaper brews there. read more

This "experience" was lukewarm in my opinion. This is a self guided tour with a simulator ride that blows air and shakes (you are being made into beer) and ends with beer tasting (sticky floor.) Finishing at their bar on the top floor and you are rewarded with two free beers. Very commercialized-one part of the tour is sitting watching a surround theatre production of their commercial. However the beer is great, and I enjoyed the beer tasting as the server was very sharp and knowledgeable. I think age may have been a factor for me- if you are in your 20's and early 30's and in a party mood this would be your experience! However if you have only one or two days to see sites this would be 4th or 5th on my list. But did I tell you the beer was delicious and I am now a Heineken fan! Great museum for Heineken fans. It starts off like any boring museum with the basic history of the Heineken company and its founder/brewmasters. Halfway in It turns into this fun amusement park type experience. You get a point of view of the brewing process on this ride that puts you in the place of the barley. Then you go through the hall where the original brewing tanks are and also get to see the Heineken horses. Do not mention anything about the Budweiser horses. The tour attendant will mad dog you. The tour guides don't like that. Towards the end there's a machine where you can customize a bottle of Heineken to say what you want on the label. Also you get two free glasses of Heineken at the end of the tour. Must visit if you are in Amsterdam. read more

We got the VIP tickets. Which is well worth the extra money. Our tour guide was amazing! She even gave the group a extra free beer when the group in front was still in the tasting room. You learn a little bit about the beer making process, which was interesting. The second half of the tour was all marketing for Heineken, not in a bad way though. They have a stationary bike you can ride with a green screen that makes it look like you are riding through the streets of Amsterdam. It was a pretty fun experience, although crowded. Was kind of expensive for a brewery tour (about 18 euro/person), but it was a very large and fun tour. There were lots of interactive games, activities, and "lessons" about brewing beer. The tour does come with 2 glasses of beer, and I highly recommend going to the rooftop bar if open. When I went, there was a band playing current hits and requests. Very well organized, the last part of the tour was my favorite part; you get to see how they make the beer in 4D, try the beer, go to their bar and hangout until you finish your beers, and you also get to take selfies at their selfie spots! This brewery tour felt more like I was stuck in a Heineken commercial than I was touring the brewery. Some of it was fun/interesting like when we learned the proper way to drink a Heineken beer - big gulps, not sips or fun/silly like when were "bottled" into Heineken beers in the Heineken experience "ride", but for the most part it didn't teach anything new about Heineken or Amsterdam and it was pretty disappointing when our beer tokens only got us more of the original Heineken beer and not any of the other beers they were serving on the rooftop. If you've done the Budweiser tour in St. Louis before and you aren't a huge Heineken fan I'd say you can skip this tour and spend more time sampling beer around town. At least at the Budweiser tour you get a view of the clydesdale's faces instead of just the horse's asses at the Heineken tour! read more

Heineken Experience, it's not the actual brewery but it is where the brewery used to be. Its similar to the World of Coke in Atlanta, however it is much more interesting than the world of coke. For €18 you will receive a Heineken Bracelet that consists of three different tokens. Two tokens for a free beer, and one for a free gift. The tour itself was a self-guided tour with many history behind the making of Heineken and it's ingredients they put in the beer. In between all of the interesting stuff, you will enter into a nice looking bar with star shaped bars and get lectured on why Heineken is great, and at the end of this lecture they will ask you to take a big gulp of the beer. At the end of it all you will enter a lounge like bar where you will be served beer by redeeming the tokens you received with the bracelet. Ok, so you get three beers with the experience! Well worth it! To some people, the experience may be a waste of money but I think it's well worth it as was actually a fun experience. read more

My wife and I make it a point to visit breweries when we travel and at this point we've seen a lot. This tour was the worst brewery tour we've seen by far. It provides very little information and feels like a long commercial. There are foozeball tables, stationary bikes, picture booths, and video monitors with artsy teenagers drinking beer which is certainly an "experience", though not a good one. If you have a basic understanding of the brewing process, want to learn more about Heineken's beer, or are looking are looking for an informational tour with substance, this is a waste of 18€. If you are of newly legal drinking age with a compulsion towards loud flashy things, this might be your place. read more

This was more a marketing gimmick than "an experience." There was not much of a tour--it was mostly just a walk through. And even that was kind of disappointing. There was not a lot to see until you actually get to the tasting room. You get 2.5 beers (or soda if you don't drink). And then you get to play around with all the interactive marketing kiosks designed to make you spend more money. You can put your name on a bottle or t-shirt, etc. If you got a Holland Pass, you can either use one of your tulip tickets, or if you ran out, present your Pass and you can get 20% off. read more

Though certainly not the highlight of my trip, this was a fun experience that I'd recommend if you've got a few days in Amsterdam. However, if you only have a short amount of time and are trying to decide on the "one thing you should do in Amsterdam", I wouldn't necessarily recommend it be this (unless you happen to REALLY love the Heineken brand I suppose). That said, I found it entertaining. If you do decide to go, make sure you buy tickets in advance online (they aren't issued for a specific date/time, so you'll have some flexibility). I did, and I walked right into the brewery, past a line that was halfway down the block waiting for tickets. Definitely worth it and doesn't cost you anything extra. The Heineken "Experience" is a very fitting name because it really is much more of an 'experience' than a tour of a brewery. Heineken doesn't actually brew in this location anymore, so it definitely differed from other brewery tours I've been on. They do still have the brew equipment and give a basic-but-informative explanation of the brewing process, but they concentrate a lot more on the marketing aspect of the company, which I still thought was interesting. I liked seeing how the logo has changed over time. There are lots of different interactive points which keeps it interesting for kids(/hyperactive adults like myself). And the tour is self guided, so you can spend as much or as little time as you'd like in any given section. When you get to the end of the tour, you are able to redeem the two tokens attached to the wristband you received upon entry. They have two different sides: use your 2 tokens to get two beers poured for you by an employee, or use your 2 tokens to pour one Heineken yourself. If you choose the latter, you enter your name into a computer and wait for an employee to call you up and teach you how to do the "perfect pour". Once you've poured one successfully, they hand you a certificate, you grab your beer, and enjoy. Having already drank an excessive amount of Heineken during my time in the Netherlands, I decided to use my two tokens for the pour-it-yourself section. I'm not suggesting that you do this, but all I'm sayin' is that if you don't get the 'perfect pour' on the first time, they'll let you keep the beer you messed up AND let you pour another one... True, you may look incompetent in front of the 50+ other people standing in line watching you, but you'll also get to drink an extra beer-- I'll let you decide which you value more. Overall an enjoyable experience but not one I would put in my list of top things to do in Amsterdam. If you are really interested in beer/brewing, check out Brouwerij Het IJ instead. read more
