Great store with the friendliest employees. Service is exceptional. The only issue, which they don't control, is the Heinens' IT department leaves a lot to be improved upon. Lots of items not listed on app and other times I will order and get notice it's currently out of stock. Week later same issue. Not on shelf and was informed they don't carry the item. I have to give only one star die to a continual issue with the check out personnel. Seems every time a survey pops up, the cashiers try not to give you the survey, so you do need get a discount on the next visit. One cashier told me when I asked what's the hanging piece of receipt, she said oh it was for her, it wasn't it was the survey receipt, today the cashier tried to throw away the survey receipt Snd AGAIN I HAD TO SAY GIVE IT TO ME. The fish, meat, bakery, and produce are great. The service is also wonderful. The personnel actively try to help the customers and will take the initiative to ask if a customer is looking for something in particular. I highly recommend this store. read more

My experience with Heinen's dates back many years before either of us moved to Chicagoland. Since we've become "empty nesters" and my wife is vegan, many of the meals are for one. Sometimes I get motivated in the kitchen, but it!s nice to count on Heinen's prepared foods. The bakery is great (sidebar: they bake a pastry only found in Cleveland-what a treat) as are the fresh meat, seafood and fruits & vegetables departments. Candidly (no pun intended), I purchase national caned and packaged items elsewhere, but for the Departments I've noted you won't in my experience find better quality. Service-wise the store is everything you could want; employees are plentiful, helpful and friendly. Finally relative to the store's ambiance; wide isles, floors are clean and well stocked. read more

My husband and I went to Heinen's Grocery Store to do some grocery shopping after having breakfast at the same shopping plaza. This grocery store is bright and organized. I also noticed how clean the store was. An employee was even dusting the wine bottles as they were being put on display. Their produce and bakery sections are extensive. Of course, we had to get some goodies to try. The cookies were crisp and chocolatey. The brownie explosion cookies had brownie in the middle of the cookie. We shopped for a few more items. The checkout was quick and the cashier was friendly. I will return to Heinen's Grocery Store for grocery shopping in the future. read more

The main reason I like this place is because it's always fairly empty and a grocery story being empty during Covid is rare. They have a nice wine and beer selection which I appreciate being able to swing in and get a little something . Their produce is fresh and nicely organized. Their prepared foods/deli area isn't very interesting to me. They have started to offer a few vegetarian/vegan offerings although they try they could do much better. The one issue that keeps me away more often than not is the pricing. It's fairly expensive so I usually just come for a few things. But since it's usually not very busy check out is a breeze although I wish they would have paper bags with handles. read more

Wow, this is my first time visiting this store! It was immaculate, very organized and clean! I just wanted to stop by to get their sugar kiss melon which my friend highly recommended! It was $3.99 each but it's totally worth every bite! I didn't have time to roam around the store and take more pictures! The amount of plastic they use to package their deli meat and cheese is appalling. It breaks my heart knowing that there are so many stores like Heinen's that blatantly disregard the climate crisis we are in. So much plastic ends up in the ocean, killing off species which ultimately disrupts the eco system for the worse. Please Heinen's, take the bad Yelp review seriously. You do not need three layers of plastic to package a half pound of store sliced cheese. By cutting back the waste you'll not only give the earth the respect it deserves but you'll also be saving on the unnecessary expenses those extra two layers of plastic eat up. A bit pricey, but definitely a great place to buy finer foods -- especially freshly prepared cooked foods, bakery, and soups. Heinen's is probably in an unusual spot for grocery stores -- not quite as upscale as Whole Foods, similar to Mariano's, Fresh Thyme, and Fresh Market, but not quite as cheap as local chains. One thing they definitely do excel at though is a very colorful, pleasant decor in their store and a spacious layout. In my opinion, the selection and quality here makes it one of the best values of the finer food stores -- and exactly in the middle of appealing to the higher-price and price-sensitive customers. This is probably why it seems to have difficulty attracting more customers, despite being an excellent choice for a grocery store. The brands carried aren't much more expensive than the nicer brands carried by cheaper stores like Mariano's or Sam's Club -- but it's not cheap enough to substitute other stores for price-sensitive customers. With that said, there are definitely some great reasons to come here, regardless of prices. They carry some more unique offerings that you don't commonly see in other grocery stores, across all departments. The fresh fruits and vegetables are presented perfectly and of high quality. The salad bar, soups, prepared foods, bakery, etc. are of similar quality to local restaurant food. There's lots of local midwest brands you'll find here, so you won't have to travel to enjoy some of your favorite foods. Finally, I can't say it enough -- the decor is very pleasing and walking through the store is an enjoyable experience. Overall, nice store for the area. Heinins, the priciest grocer in the area has stooped to a low point. It bo longer uses its own Romaine in its salad bar and uses a vendor. The lettuce is overly green and wilty and not chopped like it was. I asked if there was other romaine they could use and I was told NO. So I tried it and got $30 with of salad for the family (yes they increased the price per pound also), a not one person ate it. It tasted terrible also. Not fresh and crisp like the old lettuce. Shame on you Heinins. You're just like the rest!!(but charge more) read more

I like this grocery store. The number one attraction for me is the close proximity to home. It's on the costly side and that probably accounts for their excellent customer service. Their variety of standard groceries is strong and you can almost always find what you're looking for. Unfortunately their in house products can be more hit and miss. Things may have deteriorated due to Covid market factors but I've been a little disappointed with the freshness of their prepared green salads as well as the quality of meat in their chicken salads. Conversely, there bakery rocks with chocolate chip cookies, using nothing but pure, strait forward ingredients. I maintain a constant supply at my house. They are a staple along with milk, egg, and butter I including Heinen's chocolate chip cookies. There house brand soups are also very good. The produce is also good quality (still pricey). It looks like at one time they had a poke bowl bar where you could make your own bowl. I believe Covid ended that. I would love to see the poke bowl bar return or just a salad bar. Overall I'm happy to shop there but I don't expect to be wowed by much (except the cookies) . read more

I know people use Heinen's as their regular grocery store... but for me, I love it for it's specialty items.... from sushi (which makes a great lunch) to the deli (have you tried their 3-brother salmon yet?) to their cheese selection and soups. Oh the soups! I actually stock up on them and my husband and I LOVE splitting them for a meal. My favorite is the Butternut Squash and Apple soup. It's so ridiculously good I could eat it cold. EAT IT COLD, I say! Plus they have a terrific organic fruits and vegetables section. And did I mention they sell wine by the glass? Haven't tried that yet... but it's on the list :) read more

I like the store. Cleanliness: This store is immaculate. It comes off as a show room. This is not a huge store. It comes off as much more manageable than the Mariano's in Vernon Hills/ Libertyville and larger than a typical Sunset. Organization: When you walk in you can quickly catch on to the general layout and organization of the store. Furthermore the signage is exceedingly well thought out. The aisles are wide and the store has a very neat appearance. Selection: It seems as they went to great pains to limit what they carry to that of quality. They have a good selection but not the bombastic offerings that creat confusion. Essentially you'll find what you need pretty easily. Service: Very friendly and helpful folks work here. They made me feel very comfortable and welcomed. I was asked if I needed help 3 times during my stay...not too much and definitely not ignored. Very similar to Sunset. Uniqueness: OK..it's the liquor area. They have an extensive selection of Beer and Wine and a quality selection of spirits. Exceedingly well organized. What's real cool is that they have beer taps and wine dispensers in the liquor area and the intent is that you can cruise the store with a mellow chill. The wine dispensers are self serve and give you an opportunity to try some select wines prior to committing to a bottle. Cost: Comparable to Mariano's. More than Jewel but less than Whole Foods. I need to still check out their bakery and meat selection (great deal on some great salmon right now) before I say I'm a huge fan. For now I'll say I will definitely be back. read more

It's A-OK! For those in the area, how wonderful that there is finally another large grocery option. For those who don't live nearby, it's about 20% higher than Jewel, so there really isn't a reason I'd go out of my way to come here. I've been to their other location in Glenview, and what I like more about this location is the fact that the aisles are much larger and easier to navigate. The wine selection is ginormous here... and for a junk run, the Pop Tart selection has every flavor you can imagine! My kids would love it! Not sure there is anything here I would say is a bargain. We did sign up for one of their special store cards, which enables you to take advantage of their weekly specials, but other than that, this place is truly a neighborhood stop in my opinion. I will say, I'm curious about the prepared foods and salad bar that Marianna S mentions. This could make it all the more worthwhile. Beautiful store. Huge wine selection. That's about it! read more

I've always thought the prices was a bit higher than at Mariano's but before Mariano's this was the only option for salads to go. I revisited this establishment and rediscovered the salad, soup, and poke bar. Yep, to my surprise, the is a poke bar and the quality was great. Considering I just came back from Maui, the poke was good for 15.99/lbs which is about the same price in Maui. The poke quality is better than the stringy poke bowls at Mariano's. I also tried kombucha on tap at the coffee bar adjacent to the entrance. Today was a good lunch. I'll have to revisit again soon! read more

I love shopping at Heinens. They are a great upscale store! The downside is their pricing. However, they are catering to a certain clientele. I go their for hard to find items, and specialty products. I tend not to get anything such as canned goods or paper goods there. Their sales can be good from time to time. I have been known to go crazy on their essential oils when on sale. I don't use their EOs for much more than diffusing. I tend to use a lot of plant therapy for anything that requires use to your skin or ingesting. I love their store, and I'm sad to see Marianos so close by that they may go out of business. Hit or miss at cashier check out. No one working express checkout. Some cashiers have a brain and take care of waiting customers. Other young cashiers are either mentally challenged or poorly trained, opening stalls and taking customers that just walked up instead of taking customers who were waiting in line with only five groceries. read more

Do you like unknowingly shopping in the middle of a bunch of unmasked people who are sitting around drinking beers in the liquor department?I just had cancer surgery and my treatment is being delayed at least 2 months because the nearby hospitals are overrun with the Omicron surge, but meanwhile Heinen's is holding a bar in the middle of the grocery store --without any mention on the store's exterior. How are you this out of touch with your community? Maybe Heinen's wouldn't have to reduce hours due to "staffing shortages" --as was noted on signage--if it provided a safer working environment. read more

I generally hate all of the grocery stores in the area. I hate Heinen a lot less. Mostly because it just feels so pleasant while you're shopping. Until, of course, you get to the checkout and realize that you're paying 20% more than you would pay at the next closest large chain (and even a little more than you'd pay at Sunset). But the experience... Sigh. It's a tradeoff. Big, wide, clean aisles. Nice displays. A little hard to find things sometimes, but if you're patient, they'll appear. Fresh produce, wide selection of prepared foods, nice salad bar. The meats and fish are high quality (and high $$). They have an especially good natural foods section. But the prices. Another sigh. If I need mostly produce, or if I want some of their specialty items/salad bar, I'm happy to come here. Unfortunately, I am not wealthy enough for this to be my regular grocery store. One tip: sign up for their rewards program. They send out emails with deals (some of which are only for members) and those deals are sometimes really good. read more

When they were building this place out I could not believe it would work, now we do 90% of our shopping here. The critical products are excellent. Produce, fish, meats all fantastic. Prepared foods, deli, and cheese department are excellent. Even better are the staff and managers. They know us by name and are a joy to work with. Oh, did I mention the mini baguettes, BRILLIANT! So I take back all the bad words I said about Heinen's. I have been visiting this place quite a bit lately and I gotta say its a good looking supermarket. It is so well organized and so clean. You walk in one door and you see an array of wines placed so gracefully. You walk in the other door and you see the fruits and veggies and they look too good to be true. I usually drive 12+ miles to Barrington just to shop at Heinen's. They have excellent customer service (the Nordstrom of grocery stores, IMO) and high quality private label products. When I learned of the new location in Bannockburn, I was so excited because it's much closer to my home. I've been to the new location 4 times since it opened and I have to say, it's NOT THE SAME. The staff are not nearly as friendly or helpful as I've grown accustomed to. At first I thought it was just because they were working out the "grand opening" kinks but now I've come to realize that's just the way it is here. And I'm not sure if I'm biased because i have previous expectations but the quality of products isn't the same. The prepared foods aren't as delicious and the sale items are different than the other locations. Even the produce section doesn't look the same as the other location. read more

I was so excited that Heinen's was coming to the north shore of Illinois. I loved going to Heinen's when visiting friends in Cleveland when I was in college years ago. Wow, I am really shocked by the comments about the service here. I have shopped at this location 5 times now and the workers couldn't have been nicer. Helping me locate products in the store as well as showing me how the wine cards work. I personally didn't think that it was a big deal that I had to sign up for the rewards program online, big deal people! Seriously. Additionally, my mom accidentally locked herself out of her car while at the glenview Heinen's and the manager gave my mom a cup of coffee and a newspaper to read while she waited for my dad to arrive. On to the food. Make sure to try out the bakery. They have the best brownie stuffed cookies as well as sub sandwiches. The only food I haven't cared for so far was the take home pizza. The sauce just didn't have much flavor to it. Anyways, some of you may not have had stellar experiences so far at Heinen's but I really think you should give them another shot. I'm a fan of this location primarily because it is so close to home. We were driving into downtown LF for Jewel, Libertyville for Mariano's, and occasionally, eek, to Waukegan for Wal-Mart. Prices are a little higher here but their produce is very good and they have a great selection of adult drinks. If you go at the right time (more like being lucky) you will see more samples than a Sunday at Costco. They also have a great variety of pre-made foods and a delightful hot bar. read more

Fancy dancy grocery store, not a bad substitute for Dominic's! Get a glass of wine at their dispensing station before you start to shop, then browse their produce area for all kinds of exotic fruit and vegetables you would have a hard time finding elsewhere. When we went we also tried their lobster salad in their deli area, which was phenomenal. They have lots of great snacks, salads, and prepared trays that would be perfect for Ravinia. I'd place this store somewhere between Sunset and Foodstuffs in terms of selection and expense, so while I wouldn't shop here all the time, it's a great option for assembling the perfect picnic dinner! read more

Big fan of the Heinen's chain. I tend to focus on produce, meat section, and seafood section at most grocery stores. Produce I find to be on par with quality-wise with a Whole Foods. This location doesn't have as good of selection as the Glenview location though. For the meats, there are a couple of things that puts this place as one of my go to places. They carry some D'Artagnan products like duck breasts and duck fat which I don't find in the suburbs besides Standard Market in Westmont. They also have Niman Ranch pork which is fantastic! Gotten Berkshire and Duroc pork but really do prefer Niman Ranch. They do the thick cut pork chops and they are usually reasonably priced. Heinen's has become my go to place for seafood. Whether it is dry scallops, shrimp, salmon, or one of their freshly flown in Hawaiian varietals I have not been disappointed. Their prices are also so much better for seafood than Whole Foods or Sunset. If you are looking to get some mass produced item there are other places to go that will be cheaper. If you are looking for some type of protein or produce for making dinner then I highly recommend Heinen's! read more

I cannot say enough great things about this store. I hadn't shopped there, even though I live within a couple miles and I truly regret all the time I wasted running between other local grocery stores. Heinen's had EVERYTHING I was looking for! I am a Holistic Health and Wellness Practitioner and I try to keep my diet heavy in produce, healthy fats and protein, always as organic as possible. I was so impressed by the selection of produce, meats, fish as well as the Origin A2 brand of dairy, my only complaint is they don't always have the cream in stock, but that is to be expected because it tastes great!! In addition, I have heard some wonderful customer service stories that aren't to be found at any grocery stores that I know of. Heinen's still gets the bulk of our business, but I've removed a star. Some of the cashiers are just not very nice. My cashier today didn't say hi and didn't thank me. I made a point of thanking her, and she still didn't say a thing. Come on! Also, their Chicken Noodle Soup has been a consistent winner.....until today. It was made with cubed deli sandwich chicken meat. What's that? I'll certainly be back, but if management ever reads these reviews....please give a few lessons to your cashiers about making people feel welcome....and keep the cubed lunch meat out of my soup! read more

My review is well intended. We shop here because they don;t move everything monthly so finding is easy. Great soups, great salad bar, nice people. Manageable size. On the other hand their prepared food is simply terrible. I've tried many items from the under cooked red potatoes to the outrageously priced meat. It would be a perfect spot to pickup diner for a couple but I have exhausted my efforts. NO MAS! Its a pity because us affluent folks are prepared to pay but not for what they serve. We came only because someone we know thought they bought a vegan cheese here. We live in the SW side of HP so it's not a place that I would come to regularly as it's a bit out of the way. Prices are quite a bit more than jewel/Mariano's. We asked staff about the vegan cheese and just told us that vegan stuff is mixed in with the regular and we'd need to look (didn't even offer to look). Couldn't find it and we decided to just look around and found an entire vegan section in the produce area. Didn't find what we were looking for but found some other stuff. Staff needs to be trained a bit better. We bought a couple things since we were there but no reason for us personally, to come back. read more
