My husband was hospitalized with food poisoning after eating their Garlic Grilled Shrimp bought at the Mentor location. Management shrugged and said "We're sorry you feel that way" when they were told about how unacceptable it was for this to happen at a so-called "high end" grocery store. For anyone local who needs vegan staples like organic hummus, seitan, or high-end vegan cheese like Miyoko's or Treeline, Heinen's is much more convenient and possibly cheaper than driving to the closest Whole Foods. Closed the day after Thanksgiving. Surely a nice perk for their employees but what an inconvenience to the customers. For Heinen's sake, it's a good thing Gelson's will never expand to Ohio - Heinens would be decimated. The bar is set quite low with the local competition here. read more

2/27/19 Update: came in for $5 susihi Wednesday from their outsourced Hissho Sushi stand. I've never experienced great service at this one. There was plenty of sushi out, but it was all two different rolls. I asked the lady to make me a couple different ones and she said "20 minutes." I said ok and she proceeded to putz around. Five minutes later when she saw I wasn't going anywhere she started making my order. It took her 5 minutes. As she was finishing mine another woman walked up and asked for one specific roll. The lady again said 20 minutes and the shopper said "ok, I'll come back." She should have waited. The sushi lady would have made it quicker if you stand and stare at her! Haha! 1/25/18 going to give an update. I tried out the Instacart service now offered through Heinens and was very impressed. The ordering process was time consuming for the first time, but I anticipate it getting quicker with repeat orders. My delivery was very prompt and friendly and exactly as ordered. If something wasn't available, they would have texted an alternative for my ok. It was very convenient for those with limited time. I shop here fairly regularly as it's close to my house. The store is always clean with plenty of staff to help you locate what you're looking for. I've found in the past, if they don't have it, they will order it in. Every department seems to have a good variety of offerings for the health conscious cook. Their meat selection is excellent quality. The produce section is decent, but I wish it had a larger selection.... too small for a grocery that seems to focus on healthy options. The bakery, in my opinion, is just okay. The deli, again, very good selection, especially uncured meats. Dairy is also decent. This chain focuses on good customer service going above other grocers by having baggers and complimentary pull up loading. One thing that has changed that I've noticed is the managements over site of the younger high school workers doing checkout and bagging. There's an AWEFUL lot of gossiping going on between these young employees right in front of customers. So much so that I've several times had my whole order checked out without a hello or eye contact until I'm asked to pay. The friends just continue their conversations about their social lives when you walk up. It doesn't do these young employees any favors to not train them in good costumer service. First jobs are good for that. Overall, I love this store and just wish it were larger! read more

I love this store for many reasons some of them belong to their artisan breads, the deli counter, their crazy fresh produce... they have an awesome wine selection and great beer microbrew selection. Heinen's works a little differently than other grocery stores because it reminds me of the grocery stores that I used to go to when I was little. I remember going to a grocery store where they actually wanted you in there, employees were everywhere in order to help you. They bag your groceries, they put them in the car, they took them out to your car. I was at a competitor earlier this week just down the street and I could not find anybody to help me locate a product they ended up not having periods I had to call the phone number to get to the front desk to have them paid somebody to come help me. This was not the case at Heinen's. It seemed like every aisle had somebody that owns that island was working in that aisle. Pointed me in the right direction of the pepperoni, Honeycrisp apples, and told me about the specials on shredded cheese. The only drawback is that it tends to be a little pricier on some things like boxed cereals and mac and cheese and other stuff you would be better off going to Sams Club for anyway. I can mend the management of this silence because they hire the right people with the right frame of mind and everyone there seemed genuinely happy to be there. They've got me as a customer for life. read more

Love this grocery store. Very convenient location in Mentor and an easy place to quickly be in and out of if need be. There is a huge variety of pre-made food that you can purchase and just heat up on your own. The grocery store is a generally little pricier than some of the other store options, but I know that I am getting great quality in products and in service each time I go. This location does not have a dining area to sit but they do have the workers to load the groceries in your car as many do. read more

I love shopping here the staff is always super friendly and very knowledgeable. They have some of the freshest produce and a great meats and seafood selection. The one downside is that it is a little on the pricey side. They will also load your groceries into you vehicle for you if needed. read more

Heinen's is more expensive the. Most grocery stores so you have to shop here when they have the deals ! I tend to look at the ad and buy the sale items that week that I need. If you are going there to so your whole trip you will pay. I love heinen's for a couple reasons. They have a huge organic, gluten free and healthy selection section ! Also, there meat quality is so much better then giant eagle or Reider's ! I shop here more often now and will pay for the meat even though it's priced higher because of the quality. There home made meal section is also amazing. We will come here when we don't have time to cook and order a meal to go. They have a huge selection of healthy items. Also, there salad bar is great with different types of quinoa and healthy vegetables salads. I just love them and I usually buy these to take to work ! read more

Top notch supermarket with a corner neighborhood feel and service! They still have people who bag groceries and courteous tip-free curbside drive up and load your vehicle... Huge fan of their salad bar which has lots of options to choose from and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to load up on. They also have a great bakery, deli ( with hot food), great selection of wines and beers, many hard to find brews as well. Store is always clean and fully stocked! Huge fan, they definately gave customer service in mind! Oh yeah, you have to try their homemade Bavarian soft pretzel at the deli.... A newly found vice of mine! read more

Everyone knows that Heinen's is second to none in quality and selection, but I wanted to share a review of their amazing customer service. I went into the store this week looking for a really obscure product that isn't always on the shelf. Every single worker who approached me took their time and truly went above and beyond. The lady at the customer service desk called several area stores and eventually even placed a special order for me. In a time where everything seems so impersonal and no one seems to take their time to help someone else, Heinen's truly shined. Sometimes the best products are overshadowed by the rude and robotic service we receive at so many businesses. In this case, I can see why so many people love this store above so many others. Everything the sell is top quality. I love their produce and store brand products. Heinen's brand meats, cheeses, milk, eggs, cereals, etc. are all top quality and pretty much always organic. While I love everything they have, there are often things they don't have. Their selection isn't great and some items are often out of stock. Yesterday,I ordered 30 sticks of chicken satay in teriyaki sauce to grill, and serve it on my party. I was so disappointed, no taste at all, not even salt. Just moved to Mentor area from NJ, I was shopping at Giant Eagle, Marcs, and Kmart for groceries. Not sure if it was me but those places are depressing especially Marc's nothing looks fresh. Heinen's doesn't send a mailer so I discovered it on my own. Glad I did the store is clean, fruits are fresh, and staff is nice. Reminds me of the grocery stores back in NJ/NYC area. read more

This is required grocery shopping when I'm in town for the holidays! Such a quick, easy trip in and out. They have almost everything you need. Tonight - dips in prepared foods area, crackers, cheese, wine and beer. Heinen's consistently has good quality food, especially the fresh produce, deli, prepared foods and meat and cheese. If you are Gluten-Free then this is the store for you. They have a great selection and are always willing to order things they don't normally stock with a simple request from a customer. For specialty items their prices typically beat the larger chains, as well. read more

Three years ago, I had to move to Florida. One thing I miss the most is Heinen's. I miss the excellent selection of EVERYTHING, the wonderful employees, the experience of shopping there. My choices down here are Target, Walmart, Winn-Dixie, and Publix. They all could take a lesson from your stores. My wish is that you would consider opening a store or two down here. I know you would be a hit. There are many former NE Ohio residents down here who know you well, and miss you as much as I do. read more

Wonderful shopping experience. Freshest produce, great gluten free departments, top of the line meat, amazing bakery, friendly personable staff (I have never heard them grumbling)....there is no end to the compliments. The flowers are beautiful and really pretty inexpensive. The deli is amazing. There are no words to describe the cheese selections. And, it is comparable price wise because there is not "too much stuff" jumping in my cart that is extra and I didn't plan to buy - so I find that my total is what I would spend at Giant Eagle BUT better quality less quantity. I shop at Mentor and Strongsville and feel the angels singing when I walk through the doors. read more

I love this grocery store. Granted, the selection of some of the basic grocery items is a bit limited, but this is more than made up for with their specialty items: lots of local produce, organic section, prepared foods, just to name a few. The staff is very friendly, helpful, and well-versed on the products. Customer service is excellent. Every employee seems to take pride in doing a good job and being helpful. Unlike other stores, when you ask where something is, they take you right to it. They have no self-checkout lines. Instead, they have many lines open and plenty of people to bag your groceries. They even load your groceries into your car at no extra charge, which is not only convenient, but means there are not carts all over the parking lot. There seems to be a perception that Heinen's is more expensive then some other stores, but I don't know how true that really is. I find the prices to be pretty competitive, and even if they were slightly higher than others, the excellent service and convenience make up for it. Excellent shopping experience. read more
