Yeleseyevsky Deli is a well-loved Russian/European store in Mayfield Heights. The store's name is reverence to an ornate and grand Yeleseyevsky Store in Moscow. Yeleseyevsky Deli is my favorite local Russian store. I have been visiting this store for years. I always highly recommend it! Layout/Assortment: The store recently moved to a new, updated location. It is well lit, spacious, tidy, and well organized. The store departments are similar to what you would expect at a grocery store. Dairy, seafood, baked goods, produce, frozen foods, canned goods, prepared foods, vitamins, souvenirs, and wine categories can be found here. This store has more expansive inventory than other similar stores in the area. Products originate from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Turkey, and other parts of the world. All products are clearly labeled with the original language and English ingredient lists which makes the shopping experience less intimidating for a newbie. Recommended buys: If you're Russian, you'll be pleasantly surprised and nostalgic about everything. Kvas bread drink in the fridges, Olivie salad in the deli, Alenka chocolate at checkout, Russian greeting cards for every occasion, and the list goes on. If you're looking to explore Russian and European cuisine, I recommend trying Doktorskaya bologna (slightly smokey and flavorful), Belochka chocolate waffle cake (bold chocolate flavor), Ivan Chai (firewood tea with campfire taste), and Siberian pelmeni (so tasty). Feeling more adventurous? Try Birchtree juice, caviar, vodka-filled chocolates, frozen seaberry, Siberian pinecone jam, and oak broom for your next banya (sauna) visit. Service: The service is friendly especially if you're a regular. The store employees are bilingual - Russian and English. The checkout process is very expeditious. Savings: The store offers - "buy more, save more." Your receipt will be stamped with a coupon at checkout when you meet certain purchase threshold. Don't forget to grab free Russian newspapers on the shelves next to the entrance! They contain information about local events and businesses. Parking: Large parking lot is available in the front and the back of the store. Parking is very convenient. This store is suitable for routine grocery shopping and exploring new global foods. It's also a great destination if you're looking for a gift - greeting cards and boxed chocolates available. Or if you're looking to host a tea party - plenty of tasty sweets. I highly recommend visiting this store!

The new location is smaller but neat, well-lit, and organized. Same great selection of foods from fresh to frozen.

I lived and went to heaven.

I love this place! It is the largest Russian grocery specialty store in the area. They have relocated, to open before the end of April 2021 in their new location at 5378 Mayfield Road. In the meantime, you might find what you're looking for at Mayfield Fine Foods near Costco. Excited to see that they are moving closer to the highway, but now I must invent new reasons to find myself spending part of the day also perusing the cases in neighboring Casa Dolce..

    This is the Spartak!! Heavenly.

They just keep placing another brisket on, and the ribbons of beef keep falling. The order counter is tiny, with a line out the door: regulars, tourists like me, and food delivery drivers all waiting their turn. There are meat trimmings everywhere, tubs of pickles, and the sense that the folks behind the counter know exactly what they are doing. The small dining room is packed with people sitting elbow to elbow, gripping massive sandwiches with stadium mustard in the corners of their mouths. It is loud, cramped, messy, and glorious. I've gone to heaven.

I joined the line just before 11 and got inside about 11:50 AM. I'm currently standing in line waiting on my sandwich which is a corned beef melt. I ordered a corned beef melt, which is toasted rye, cornbeef, double Swiss cheese - hot & melted with Kraut on the side and dressing. I got a side of potato pancakes, and also coleslaw. The folks were extremely friendly on the inside, very welcoming and very efficient as they worked to make who knows how many meals. And you'll be glad to know every sandwich comes with a dill pickle, wrapped in its own paper and ready for delicious consumption! The dill is a big deal to me because I like spears, as in the pickle not necessarily (in this case) the pop star! Come early and be ready to wait! The place is really kitchsy and has a great atmosphere. And the folks really make it awesome to be there. It has the feel of a destination restaurant the kind of place that is an experience to visit not just because of the food because of the culture and the people and the phenom that it has become.

The food had always been delicious until this last visit. Given we are regulars at the place, we know the quality of the food has been consistently fantastic and the wait for the food is typical - not too fast or slow - enough to prepare the meal given how busy the place has always been. This last time, however, it was a good 45 minutes before the order came to the table. Neither one of our meals was very good. I was very hypiglycemic by this point and so I ate the french toast that was completely uncooked inside. At first I wasn't thrilled that the bread was considerably smaller than it used to be until i bit into it to find cold wet mush. I should not have eaten it at all. My friend had ordered a patty melt - medium which should be light pink in the center. It was bloody red. She sent it back and about 20 min later it came back exavtly the same. She sent it back again. Another 20 minutes later it came back well done and with spices in the meat that made the meat taste lousy. So now she had a burger that wass over cooked and tasted bad. She didnt gat to eat because by that time we were done. I wish i had turned back the french toast. I kept hoping with every bite it might be cooked. Not one bite was cooked. Not even one. Being hypoglycemic I felt like I would lose my cool if I didnt eat something so I ate. It turns out the place had been bought and the new owner really didnt care. We got to talk to the brother of the new owner who only said that the place has been very busy and that should speak to the quality. He couldnt care less about our experience. All I have to say is that they are going to be losing a lot of money having to replace meals and once people find out about the sudden drop in quality of the food, those peeople that have been filling the place will not be returning as we wont be either. We refuse to go somewhere that the owners could care less about their patrons.

First of the Mike's Chicken Noodle soup was the best chicken noodle soup around. Rich broth, carrots, celery, chunks of chicken in a hearty broth and noodles. The hearty chicken noodle now on the menu is just broth and egg noodles. Not a veggie or chicken in sight and it's too salty and bland. Very disappointing for more than $7.50 a bowl I can't even say it's disappointing it just was bad. And served luke warm. We got the reuben sandwich to split with potato salad. Toasted bread fairly good portion for $18.95 a sandwich. But the corn beef was a bit chewy. The corn beef should be tender it was not in the middle. I wanted to like it but it was just meh. Potato salad was served in the little side Dixie cup thing. I gotta say I hate that. Potato salad was more like mashed potato salad. Again not a lot of flavor or ingredients. Service was good. The employees were the same, menu is paired down. They do still have the pickles. Which is good! But the taste and overall food was not the same. Too bad. It was a great little deli. I did hear someone was buying it from the restaurant conglomerate and I hope that's true. We need the old Jacks Deli back! Or at least better than what we have now. Until this guy takes over I am avoiding g this once great deli.

When I walked in, I had to settle for an unbelievably delicious scrapple sandwich because they were temporarily out of pastrami. Scrapple with a handmade, red, cabbage, slaw, onion, marmalade, and cheese. So creative and so delicious. My wife had asparagus and fennel soup. The fennel perfectly cut through the richness of the asparagus. Add to this one of the best potato salads I've ever had and it would've been enough. Until Jeremy came over to the table with some fresh pastrami to taste. I don't know where the best pastrami in America is, but whatever it is it's unlikely to be better than this. This is a place you should not miss.

The place is simply decorated with a general store feel and lot of James Beard awards that adorn a wall. It is fairly clean and they do a great business serving guests dining in, as well as to go pick up orders. The lady that assisted me was friendly & professional and was able to accommodate me since I am not a fan of rye bread. I ordered their Pastrami and an order of French fries that came with a seasoned aioli. Both were large helpings. The sandwich was still warm and seasoned real well with sauerkraut. They do offer a few different options that include a fried chicken sandwich too, lots of sides too. It is located in what appears to be a former firehouse. I'm glad I came by to try them out.
