I was greeted by Harley the dog who emerged from his hidey hole under Jane's desk to greet me. We wandered around for a bit until suddenly Lily, Harley's sister(?) I think, bounded in to say hello and check out the new customer. If you're not a dog lover Jane will put the dogs in another room so you are not disturbed, but honestly, they are just lovely. I decided to look here for some furniture after looking at new pieces in various furniture stores and being very disappointed. But the real treasure here is Jane herself with her encyclopedic knowledge of the pieces in her store, the history, the kind of wood furniture is crafted from, how it's made as with hand cut dovetails and hand turned legs and how to tell if a piece is original by running your hand over the bottom of a drawer to feel the imperfections in the hand planing or the look of hand blown glass and how they managed to make glass window panes like that. There are also really fun pieces of jewelry, china and accessories like lamps and porcelain figurines that also have a history and stories that are incredibly educational and fascinating. I had 2 pieces of furniture delivered--a lovely old rocking chair and a small work table--they were examined and things needing tightening, like legs on a rocker, or fixing, like shelves needing a little shim to be leveled were taken care of by a carpenter friend of Jane's. (I'm sorry not to recall his name right now.) They delivered the pieces to my home in perfect condition. There are occasional sales at Janet's and they do have a lay-away plan which I'm using to purchase a beautiful table made with tiger wood!! (Ask Jane!) and a lovely old hutch. I also found an amazing delft painting on a long framed tile that is a small work of art, all in blue, and some plates also, as well as a few lovely old mixing bowls and a couple small brooches, one with Persian turquoise and the other with "apple juice Bakelite" and hand carved and painted sunflowers. So pretty!! And there are stories and histories in Jane's memory for every one of the objects I bought or looked at. If you ever wanted to go to Antiques Roadshow but don't have anything to bring, go to Janet's antiques!! You'll have a chance to learn the journey of many periods and types of furniture and many other objects from the past. And if you find a piece that speaks to you and decide to take it home, Jane will write out the history of your purchase for you and send it to your home so you don't have to memorize it before you leave. I found that talking to Jane about the things in her store and their histories is a lovely way to spend an afternoon. If you're looking for a unique, well-made, high quality piece of furniture for your home I hope you stop in at Janet's Antiques!! I had a run in with the owners today. I had not been back since my previous review. During our…read morevisit I was approached by one of the owners and confronted about my review and I restated, without apology, my previous review. They were rude to my young son. I did not appreciate it. The owners proceeded to insult me in a passive aggressive way. "People see your review and comment to me how rude you are because everyone loves us" " What a bad person you must be" " Look in the mirror (I'm overweight) and consider the source" I had told them that I didn't want to argue but they didn't back off. We left with out our two purchases because "We don't need your pennies" I have an extensive history of successful retail management, 25 years, and was shocked by them. Here are some simple lessons: - The customers perception is reality. A simple discussion and apology would have prompted me to change my review. - Never argue with a customer. Let it go. Live and let live. I feel sorry for them and will include them in my prayers.... They do have a wonderful shop full of good stuff at nice prices. Merchandise 5 stars Emotional maturity 0 stars.

Months after completion of this project, I am still blissfully happy with the results. We chose this house because it was way under market value, and it had the footprint I wanted. It was built in 1986, and had never been updated since. We needed the entire first floor redone and opened up. We needed gas lines moved, all electrical moved, and plumbing reconfigured. We went down to the studs. Laura made the planning process exciting and easy. Picture sitting down with a great friend and talking about everything you want! She did everything to perfection, BUT I am realizing looking at the photos how many requests I really hit her with: window seat, dog "garage," pantry cabinet, side-mounted sink in the island, moving the utilities, the "BREAKFAST NOOK CONCEPT," the bin drawers, the cookie sheet drawer, the touch faucet, the refrigerated drawers and the dining room to office plan... our wonderful designer listened to all of it and made it real. Then of course she gave me the opportunity to choose all the materials: granite, tiles, flooring, paint, island legs, lighting locations and fixtures, water fixtures, cabinet fixtures, custom cabinet colors (and she even came over and helped me wear and distress it herself, spending hours on the process with me) and she guided me through all of it. She shopped with me, and budgeted with me. (Then I chose all the furniture and treatments, but she was available, had I chosen to hire her for that as well.) So somehow, it's all stuff I could never have done on my own - and yet it's all unquestionably "me." Laura had an innate understanding for MY style, and chose lighting fixtures, materials, hardware and appliances that were exactly what I didn't know I was looking for. Her understanding of what I wanted was total, from structure to finishes. She never lost sight of my goals. Laura worked within my budget (I suspect, at some cost to her). We spent exactly what I communicated my budget to be. She gave me an entirely new first floor for this cost. She budgeted in everything: labor, design, demolition, fees, permits, materials, hardware, and appliances. There were NO surprises along the way. She never collected until I was happy. She found ways to get me what I wanted while still staying in my budget. She NEVER, NEVER tried to "upsell" me on anything whatsoever in order to increase the project scale. She reused materials whenever possible, and guided me when it was not possible. In addition, she handles all of the "red tape." I signed my contract, and she handled everything else. Every step of the process with her was a huge relief. Have you read, "get your designer's estimate, then double it?" That absolutely did not happen here. I also feel that the value for the scope of this kitchen, living room, bathroom and dining room project was absolutely excellent for what we accomplished. We only got this close to the budget because prior to the start of the project, we acquired water damage and had to add the lighting and the living room ceiling to the project. (She still stayed under budget.) Importantly, Laura handled the lion's share of this project for two weeks while we were out of the country. We weren't even here! She and her team (electrician, painter, cabinet maker, demo guys, flooring installation, gas, heating and a/c, tile and backsplash, etc.) worked late into the nights many times (we know because of the Ring app) to get everything done by each of her deadlines, our deadlines, and the inspection deadlines. When we came home, everything "ugly" or loud had been done - and most of the work was complete. How's that for trust? Laura's team of contractors, artisans and employees are the best (I think so because of the results, and from observing them on my return), but make no mistake - this lady is the one in charge. I was home one day while the cabinet maker/countertop installer were having a discussion about how to fit the side-mount sink in the island (a novel placement based on my request) and Laura grabbed a measuring tape and handled the issue immediately. Her knowledge base is of the highest level and she conducted the project with absolute expertise. Her direction was the heart and soul of this project. Don't be fooled by her light and easy manner - she had the scope of this project in hand from the broadest scope to the finest detail. Her blueprints and plans are precise and seasoned by experience. I am so impressed by her. The photos say it all. Silver Leaf didn't give me a gorgeous first floor, they gave me a brand new way to live, work and play. She gave me my "dream space," in a way that is functional and approachable for our everyday lives. I almost feel guilty for being so content in the time of quarantine! I would never use another designer to plan and execute my projects.

This was fine, but his insistence upon hovering grew to point where I politely informed that the lighting of the room already provided plenty of adequate shadows, and he could maybe go back to his architectural digest or similar trade rag he preferred. Being informed she was the wife of the little man we'd shushed away made for a bit of discomfort. Skipping forward passed the tedium of this encounter we took a card and left. Later calling to request a more detailed meeting on moving ahead, it took several calls to finally get a time to meet again and it was expressed that because they were so in demand it would be another month, it was decided to hire the Nanns designers who instead were not so formal and pretentious.

We started the process in March of 2018, we moved out as it was almost a complete remodel in July of 2018 understanding that with an anticipated 13 weeks to completion it could go longer, which we were OK with. The best surprise was that we were moved back in by week 14. They communicated every week with the process and which contractors were in the condo each week. Since we live in a condo we always receive communication about the workers in the building and responsiveness to noise or issues that come up, They passed with flying colors as we received nothing but positive comments about their politeness and professionalism. Our project included 2 bathrooms a kitchen and a new lounge are that was created from an old closet and unused storage space and increased our doors from standard to 96 inches. The project required significant demolition and carpentry. While they had their own team for Cabinets electricians and carpentry they outsourced some specialized features. Coordinating with our Concrete floor contractor, Tile 360,Custom Metal island cloud as well as a walnut island surround. We are extremely happy with everything from the Quality, Professionalism, Timeliness and Adaptiveness of the team. Not to get all gushy but I would not work with anyone else on a remodel project, We love our place and can't believe we didn't do it sooner.
