Yesterday I asked for a plant that I had last year but could only show a picture of, and this lady immediately knew it and took me to the section where I could pick the plant of my choice within the same family of plants. Yes, the Flower Factory carries a freakishly large inventory of plants and is my go to nursery for herbaceous perennials. The plants are well tended and fairly priced. Their stock is organized by their Latin names, but if you have trouble finding one of the 3,000 perennials they carry, the knowledgeable staff members will point you in the right direction. On sunny May weekends the place is a bit of a madhouse, so allow yourself some extra time if you visit during peak times. On the times that I've dragged my daughter out there, she's kept herself entertained watching the garden train and playing in the massive sandbox. If you don't want to make the pilgrimage to rural Stoughton, you can visit them at the Madison Farmers Market across from the Starbucks. But if you love perennials, it's worth making the long drive. One final tip. Avoid their porta-potty at all costs, especially on warm May weekends. Narsty with a capital N.

Though the prices were higher than most of the nurseries in the Madison area, this nursery carried a lot of unique trees and shrubs and the quality of their stock was second to none. In addition, the grounds were in immaculate condition with some breathtaking examples of shade gardens that were truly inspirational. Fast forward to the current day and things have slipped badly. The current variety of trees and shrubs is not what it used to be. I can find many of those same items closer to Madison at a lower price and in better condition. The display area is not well-maintained (lots of weeds) and is poorly organized. The bright spot is the staff. They remain friendly and knowledgeable. I used to look forward to my spring visits to Stonewall, but now, I really do not have a need to visit anymore.

A second cashier studied the receipt, yet doubted I really had bought 3 of things, so I had to ask my husband to go retrieve the box he had already carried out to the car. Neither staffperson could manage to honor the sale prices or figure out how to apply the discounts, so just gave us one plant free out of exasperation. We spent over $100 there. If you go this week (June 9th), snap a shot of their sales signs on your camera so you can "prove" to the cashiers there's a sale on.

While I paid, one of the guys laid down plastic in my trunk and loaded the plants into my car. Wow! A trip to Winterland is worth the 10 minute drive from Madison - I will be back!

It's really beautiful and well-stocked, organized, so clean, excellent lighting. Well done to all at Kleins! Short version: These guys were very knowledgeable, very helpful, and quick to respond. We had a…read moretough situation and they were up for the challenge. We love the way our hardwood floors look. They are worth the wait (booked 2-3 months out) Long version: We had water damage in our kitchen. We needed the damaged floor replaced and the rest of the first floor sanded and stained to match. No easy task since our floor was 17 years old. After they sanded, stained, and sealed the floor, we realized that the original builder (17 years ago) put a 2 foot by 10 foot strip of pink looking red oak in the middle of the white oak floorboards in the living room. This was imposible to see because of the tinted stain that was put on the floor to cover up the fact that the wood didn't match. Jon, our sales guy, came out on a Saturday to talk it over with us. They worked with us to squeeze us into their schedule despite being booked 3 months out. He even came and tore out the red oak himself since all of the other workers were tied up. They took out the red oak and put new white oak back in and now you can't tell at all. Honestly, I thought we were screwed. We did have to pay for them to come back to do it since it wasn't their screw up.
