Located right in the heart of the tiny town of Baker, Montana.
    Seth A.

Okay so here I am, writing about Heiser's in Baker, Montana! I will say Baker is one of the smallest towns I have passed through in all my travels within the United States! It consists of a simple main street with a traffic signal or two. I was driving through Baker this past July on my self made itinerary journeying through North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming and South Dakota. I've become a national parks guru and been on a quest attempting to visit all 59 in the USA. So after exploring Theodore Roosevelt NP in North Dakota, I was then cutting west across northeastern Montana for 80 miles while resting for the night here in Baker. Ultimately the next day I was commuting 150 miles more south into Wyoming and heading to magnificent Devils Tower National Monument!! (Devils Tower is 5 stars!) Staying for the evening around the corner at the Sagebrush Inn (a simple motel to sleep at for the night), they recommended eating dinner either here at Heiser's or next door at the Corner Bar Saloon. When I quickly googled both restaurants' menus, it looked like Heiser's had more options to choose from, so I decided to come on in. Although Heiser's is mentioned as a bar and casino, please don't take the casino part literally. I believe I did see a sign that they feature a poker room. When I first entered the restaurant, yes there's a main bar for cocktails with televisions situated all around. They also have plenty of tables and chairs to sit down at. I was traveling alone and decided to grab a high top table. I visited back on a Sunday evening and the place was relatively quiet. The bartender came over to me and served as my waiter. One other thing, as my pictures will show, Heiser's is a casual, blue collar restaurant. Real simplistic...sort of reminded me of a dive bar...anyone can come in for a drink and dinner. The front of their menu offers appetizers along with traditional and boneless wings. 2nd page has salads (as a meal), dinner baskets like chicken strips, shrimp, and steak tips (which I chose), 3rd page has build your own wraps, burgers, sandwiches and the 4th has a variety of homemade and create your own pizzas. Their menu sounded interesting I could have picked anything. The all American type of food selections are good enough to accommodate just about anyone. You can't go wrong in my opinion. The steak tips 8oz. for $11.25 were tender and seasoned well. They came with a side. I got the onion tanglers (sort of a version of an onion blossom) which were delicious! If you're hungrier, they do offer 1lb. of steak tips for $20.95. Overall, I'd like to mention that Heiser's is a comfortable and homely restaurant and bar that blends in well with the mood and feel of the little northeastern Montana town of Baker. I'm glad I chose to travel through Baker on my national parks expedition and if anyone out there happens to come through Baker, I'd absolutely recommended stopping by here at Heiser's for drinks and or dinner.

Salad Bar is BACK.... Very good!

Excellent! Just started the salad bar again. Big selection of very good salads and toppings. I got golden wings and have my topping on the side. Perfect for me! THANKS

Full Time RVers and stopped in Baker to take a break. Went in and had a burger, fries and a tried the Old Skool 654 beer. Enjoyed the atmosphere there very much. It made ya wanna say "Bartender.. give me a whiskey!" The burger was awesome!!! And the beer was great!

I absolutely love this place! I had my first beer in Montana here. :) The cheese curds are FREAKING AMAZING!!! And the ranch dressing is pretty tasty too. The first night I had a cheddar wrap with grilled chicken. The second day I had a cheeseburger. I haven't tried the pizza yet but one guy at the bar was eating it and it looked really good. I'm kind of obsessed with the cheese curds. I'll be sad when I go back to Arkansas and can't eat them anymore! Lol! I highly recommend eating here. The service was great as well. They never let me run out of beer.

The previous reviewers were absolutely spot on with the reviews. Excellent service, excellent food and excellent coffee. All of our sandwiches were fresh and made to exact order. I was bummed we got there late and missed the soup. We will try it next time! Beach is VERY lucky to have this place in town. The cafe is also in western wear store and there are vacation rentals on top of the cafe. The building is a completely renovated old hotel. There are two units. A 1BR and a 2BR. They are far better than any hotel room you will find with kitchens and the bigger one has a back porch. On top of all of this, my mother left her credit card at the cafe and LeAnn and Gene went above and beyond what anyone has ever done to track us down and get us the card back. We are deeply appreciative of their kindness and we can never repay them for what they did. They saved the day and prevented us from having to cancel credit cards, etc. This speaks volumes as to the character of the owners and I hope their business is open for a very long time.

We also fell in love with their french fries. They were just so good! Crispy on the outside, seasoned perfectly, and light and fluffy on the inside. They also have a ton of dipping sauces, so if you're a dipping sauce fan like I am, try them all! I absolutely loved having my cocktails served up in a giant cowboy boot glass! The food and drinks were great, the waiters were easy going and personable - the service was fast too! The inside of the restaurant is like walking into an old western saloon - They've got saddles and other horse tack hanging up everywhere, and they have wagon wheel style tables and live edge wooden tables too - so cool! Totally recommend this place for anybody visiting Medora or just passing through!

We found a table towards the back. Waitress came over quickly took our drink order and was back to take our dinner order. Waitress was very sweet, busy taking orders and bussing her tables. But service was great. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich with a side salad $ 2.00 up charge, but very fresh. Sandwich was over cooked and very salty. My husband order the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken which he truly enjoyed as well as a cold beer.

The Tuesday I got a hamburger and fries. Service was great, food came out fast and hot. It was really good. The Wednesday I ate at the bar section. I got a chicken sandwich with fries. That was pretty good too. Chicken was a little dry, but not like eating a cracker. Service was excellent both days. I ate here on a Friday at around 6pm. I took a seat, it's basically first come first serve. I sat in the dining area. I waited maybe 5 minutes for the waitress and she gave me my menu. I knew what I was going to eat, so I ordered a beer and water. Waitress came back and I placed my order. I got a 12oz sirloin with mixed vegetables. I also got the soup of the day, clam chowder. I thought clam chowder in Montana, this might be risky. Haha. Got my beer then clam chowder. It turned out ok. Then I proceeded to wait ~40 minutes to get my dinner. I almost left. I would have paid for the beer and chowder. I could hear a lot of chatter out of the kitchen and not good chatter. The kitchen was backing up and food was delayed. The kitchen was out of order. I felt bad for the waitress cause she was running all over the place. It wasn't her fault. When I went there during the week, the food was served in 10-15 minutes tops. Friday it was 40 minutes. Service was good. I did notice and hear some complaints amongst other guests. I remained cool, even though it had been a long two weeks. I did tip well cause I know the waitress was completely overwhelmed. My one option to this place is to hire a busboy to clean the plates up instead of the waitress doing it.
