There are days that I truly feel like there is no hope for humanity. This morning was one of those times. All four babies had vet appointments; Drew had to leave at 3am for Atlanta and Ava of course school. So.... This was the first time I was completely on my own since surgery. I got them all loaded in the car, THREE trips on the stairs (Souvie is the only one who can walk stairs, I had to carry Coco, Zoey, and Sir one at a time.) I pull out of the garage at 8:35, the latest for drop off is 8:30, but it's literally 5mins away.. It will be okay.. As I'm being my own biggest hype girl, cheering how great I'm managing all this!! Well, that's what I thought. I was wrong!! I walked in with Souvie first, again, one at a time.... The woman at the desk asked how she could help me. I said, "We have an appointment. I have three more in the car, but this is my first time out alone since back surgery and you can see I'm moving slow." And I laughed at myself because I know I look like Tim Conway playing the old man on The Carol Burnett Show. She replied, "I'm sorry, I will have to reschedule you. Our drop off hour is 7-8." I stood there with a stupid look on face, I was shocked! First, their email says 8:30, not 8.... And secondly, Omgosh I'm visibly struggling, you can't help someone out?!?! As I walked out, she said, "Do you not want to reschedule?" Uuummm NO!! You obviously have zero compassion; I don't want to leave my most precious babies with you!!!! So incredibly disappointed and deflated. Helena Veterinary Clinic Update/more information: I am one who lives for schedules, structure, and organization! I DID plan ahead and started my day WAY early to be on time. However, there is no 'guide book' on how a new back surgery will inhibit you and obviously it did so more than I expected. After the first 2 trips down and up stairs, I had to pause and regroup my strength and convenience myself the pain wasn't as bad as it was feeling. Trust me, it was as bad as it was feeling! I couldn't take my prescribes Rx pain medication because I had to drive. At no point did I think I'm entitled to special treatment. As pointed out by someone, I was already late when I left my house. I acknowledged my blame, I was honest and clear that I knew I was 10 mins late, (as for the 15 mins early paperwork work, I had everything printed and ready to leave with them, no need for me to stay). My post is about the lack of compassion and understanding. One detail I failed to mention, they knew I had surgery ahead of time and the only reason I had grooming added to their annual, is because I physically can not do until I'm healed. 2/15/21 Dr Stephen's and his staff hit it out of the park again. They have been taking care of our newest fur baby, Asher. They are so excited to see him when he comes in and he loves them as well. Don't be fool by this office!!! At first I was quoted $480 for my puppy to be spayed with bloodwork, microchip, and of course with surgery. But the front desk lady I talked to said that if I brought her in a week before the surgery for bloodwork, and opted out of the microchip it was $281 and I said ok great and booked my puppy and my moms. Now comes the day of surgery and ready to pick up the puppies and they are saying we have to pay $400 for just my dog, (not including microchip or same day bloodwork) talked to the front office and she even said, yes I see that I quoted you $281 but not sure why is more but I still have to pay the $400 just because the quote they told me before it was just an "estimated quote" which they never said it was. So I told them what if I had gotten the microchip and same day bloodwork? It would of been way more? And they said, yes it would of been more!! I tried to talked to them and said that I couldn't pay that and tried to reason with them but they refuse to help or come up with a payment plan, when it wasn't my fault! I have used this clinic for almost 10 years and have been extremely pleased with the care both of my dogs received from the staff. My first dog was seen by every vet at this clinic and we loved all of them. They took wonderful care of him until the end of his life (due to cancer). My new dog doesn't get sick very often, but when he does, we always have a positive experience seeing Dr. Stephens. Although there are many positives to why I would recommend this clinic, I would say my favorite part is the staff (especially the ladies). They have always greeted my dogs and me by name, treated us as though we are family and made coming to the vet a positive experience with lots of pats and rubs (of course for the dogs and not me). They really treat your pet as though it is their pet. When my first dog passed away, they grieved with me. It is evident the pets are not just customers, but are family and loved by all of the staff. I truly recommend this clinic if you want your pet to be given the highest level of care. No matter whether I am meeting with the vet in person or getting results on the phone, they never make me feel rushed and take time to go over everything with me in great detail explaining everything in easy to understand terms, answering my questions and easing my concerns with great patience. I could go on and on with examples about all the times they have surpassed my expectations with the wonderful service I received, but there's not enough room in this review. The worst experience ever! We originally had a vet for our dog that is very lovely in the city. However, we wanted to get a vet that was closer to our home. I called Helena Ver Clinic to make a new client appointment. The receptionist gather all the information to complete our dogs paperwork in advance on the phone. We arrive about 10 minutes late. There was another customer in front of me. She was done until about 10 minutes later. I get to the receptionist but it wasn't the lady that booked our appointment. She tells me I need to fill out the paperwork. I looked at the paperwork and i told the receptionist that I have already previously given this information on the phone about 3 days ago. She tells me that I will have to do it again. I was frustrated. However, I tried to start writing it back over. The receptionists went to the back. When she came back she told me they have a 10 minute grace period. I was late and I will have to reschedule. I told her this is unfair to me as a new client because when I called the receptionist she didn't mention it and I see nothing in your office with that policy written. In addition , I'm sure I missed the grace period because there was someone in front of me. The receptionist said the person that helped me to set up the appointment was new and she herself is just finding out about the 10 minute policy. My poor dog was so nervous that he pooped in the lobby. A behavior my dog has never had until we went into this clinic. I took my papers and told them you all treat your clients awful. My dog was only coming for a flu vaccine. I left and call Our dogs vet in the city and told them the situation and could we please bring our dog back. They told us sure come back, and that is exactly what we did. We don't care how far it is from our home. Our dog is a part of our family and Helena vet Clinic need better communication and receptionist that know what they are doing. Don't take your pet to Helena Vet Clinic . It's the worst! read more

Dr. David Wesley Stephens is absolutely the rudest Vet I have ever met. Over my 45 years I have had many small breed puppies. He came into the medical room as if he was mad at me like he knew me personally. I have never met him. He was very loud. Came across very hateful. I felt scolded. My puppies have alway's been like my children. My children and other puppies turned out great. I will never go back. I highly recommend going to another vet. A bad bog has been spoken to better then I was in the first 2 minutes of being in this man's clinic. Almost as if he felt entitled to talk to people any kind of way. Even basically stated it was his normal way of talking to people. He needs a new job. I don't get mad. I'm a nurse. I work with many difficult patients but what I experienced today. This was my first experience with this vet clinic but sadly it is not a good fit for our puppy. We took our puppy for her second round of puppy vaccinations (routine) and Dr. Allison administered an invasive and costly test that without my approval and was also not recommended for three more weeks. When my dog pooped in the examination room after said test the vet tech was rude about having to clean it up. When I had questions about the vaccinations and process for treatment I was rushed by the Dr. Not impressed and unfortunately will be moving my puppy to another Vet clinic. read more

I have only used their service for about 5 months, but I can safely say it is the best I have ever gotten for my pets. They truly take care off all animals like they were their own. They recently took care of our dog through end of life care, and they were the most noble & thoughtful through to all. Even through all this, they are still the most fairly priced veterinary service I have ever received. I would recommend them to everyone in the Shelby County area. read more

I have never taken my babies to a vet that is more loving, kind & compassionate, than the veterinarian's at Helena Veterinary Clinic! I took Jackson back yesterday for a check- up and Dr. Stephens was very positive and hopeful that Jackson was doing better and will continue to do so! He relieved my anxiety within minutes of entering the room! He explains very well what I need to do & not do with Jackson, which is so helpful ! With his positive attitude, I left there smiling rather than worried! That means so much to me! One of my other babies, Gracie had a check up last week with Dr. Barnett, and as always I was so pleased! She was very straightforward letting me know what Gracie needs to keep her from having more issues with her hip. She is always willing to answer any question, regardless how insignificant it may seem... I really do appreciate that about her! I must say that I have never trusted two veterinarians like i trust Dr. Stephens and Dr. Barnett! They are simply the best! I only wish I had met them a few years ago! read more

It's ok if you don't have a pet that is sick or has an illness. Took my dog and cat here for a checkup, was charged nearly 400 dollars for it. Just for checkups. In that checkup no where did the doctor do bloodwork on my dog who is 8 years old. Why was I charged 200 for the checkup (for my dog) The office visit, and a flea medication, and a rabies vaccination. Not even 3 days later and my dog is sick. When I call this vet and told them about a very concerning situation (my dog was very congested and panting for air) the receptionist didn't even sound concerned and told me j would need to wait 5 hours to book an appointment. My dog has a collapsed trachea (which he knew about) and proceeded to give me this giant pull to shove down my dogs throat for fleas. She threw it up, and got aspiration pneumonia. Now itturns out my dog is not only very sick but also diabetic with congestive heart failure, and is dying. This pricey doctor didn't catch any of that though. 200 bucks waste of my money, and time. Please go to a clinic that cares because this vet had an opportunity to save my dogs life with a simple blood test and x ray, instead he refused because of "the money situation".
