Earlier today, my mom and I came in to get a cut and perm. The salon's interior is not the fanciest and is located in an old strip mall; however, my mom and I felt at ease due to Helen's friendly and warm personality. She was courteous and fast. In addition to the cut/perm, I got ash brown highlights which turned out to be gorgeous (I was skeptical at first). Helen continues to amaze. Took my husband here for a much needed haircut (he usually goes to an upscale salon from out of state) and Helen was able to duplicate the cut after seeing just two pictures at a fraction of the cost. My husband, who is usually super picky about his hair (lolz) loved it. I recently came back to have my hair styled for a special event and Helen did an absolutely beautiful job. She used a special curling iron made in Korea that worked wonders on my tough Asian hair and transformed it into a gleaming waterfall of luscious curls like none other. I got magic straight at Helens I think I paid $150 ish and she did not know what she was doing. & kept blaming me, and kind of made me feel stupid my korean was not on par with hers. Then when I called to tell her it didn't come out she had me come in again. Attempted it again but given she doesn't know what she's doing obviously it didn't come out. She also laughed when I asked her to cut my white husband's hair. Told me to go to a white salon. I thought she was really rude. After a few too many botched haircuts that had me looking like one of the three stooges, I found Helen toward the end of highschool. Been going to her ever since. Almost 15 years now. She does a wide variety of services and will let you know how much it'll cost up front if you just ask. Especially recommended for asian haircuts. read more

This "salon" (if you can even call it that) is a one woman beauty shop. Haircuts are ridiculously cheap-only $20 for a woman's haircut. Men's are generally $15. In return, you get what I would price as a $60 haircut! Much of Helen's styling is more influenced by Asian hair trends (she is from Korea) but as long as you show her a picture, she will duplicate the haircut. Plus, I love the Asian flare my hair now has! :) I think her strength is in her cutting so not sure I can recommend her as a colorist. In down times, this salon is a great way to save money! Why pay way more than you need to for a mediocre haircut? read more

I can't believe Helen Magic Hair has no positive reviews. This is one of the best hair shop and really popular . If there is one thing I can complain about this place is that sometimes there are too many people, so I need to wait. So I try to go when others cannot go. I think everyone has their own style,, so hard to evaluate hair stylist with subjective opinion. Here are what I really like about this place. First she is very very kind, even when she must be tired she never loses her smile and really treat her customers with good manner. As a person who is running a business I really respect that and I try to learn from her. Second, she is very honest and fair, when you just need to trim your hair she charges accordingly, not like flat rate. Just had a haircut and it felt like I never left my Palisade Park, NJ. Helen was awesome and I finally found my go to salon from here on.

I originally wanted to go to Helen because she seemed to be great with Asian hair, but I'm so disappointed. I showed her a specific picture of what I wanted (a balayage starting a few inches below the root) and I ended up with borderline white bleached, streaky highlights on my natural black hair starting at the roots of my hair. The highlights were not dispersed evenly. The toner her assistant used did not evenly coat my hair. I would not recommend my highlighting experience and will need to get color correction to fix my hair. read more

Very awful... I am not going back to this place ever again. Hair cut for woman was $25 I believe but not worth it. You only get what you pay for.. I would recommend "CLEO" if you are looking for cheap hair cut in this area. They do much better job and much nicer than Helen. read more

Set an appointment prior to coming here and when I got there I was sitted right away. I never exactly know how I want my hair but the lady who cut my hair cut it nicely. She did do it pretty fast, in a way felt rushed but it was good enough to come back again. read more

She's really professional and will provide you advice if the hairstyle which you are going for does not suit your face features. She's really great! I lived in Arizona for 20 years and tried several Asian hair dresser during those years since I have not been able to find a good American salon who knows how to properly cut Asian hair. Ever since I first visited Helens hair several years ago, I haven't been going to any other places for my haircut needs. I don't mind the 30 mile drive from where I live to get the kind of cut I want. Not to mention the cheap price! She does Way better job than 60+ dollar scottsdale hair salons in my opinion. Helen is also a very kind, dedicated, and honest devoted Christian person, she will never overcharge or add hidden fees and willing to fix if you're not happy with the style for some reason. She would always offer refreshment and if I happen to go during breakfast or lunch time, she would even offer food. Maybe she does because I've been a regular customer for so many years but the bottom line is she really knows how to cut and style my hair in a very efficient manner. I've been to many different Korean and other Asian hair dressers in the valley in the past and Helen is by far the best and most skilled with her scissors. Highly recommended. read more
