Great people, husband and wife team. KC is her name (not actually Helina). Very very friendly and she has quite a lot of experience. I would say, though, that when someone is getting something custom-tailored, it's extremely important to listen to what the customer is asking for, specifically the "fit". I went in to have a very expensive pair of Figs hospital scrubs (I am in Medical Device Sales and wear nice scrubs to hospitals) tailored (just the top, actually), and scrubs typically come as a "boxy" fit, non-conforming, so I simply wanted a smaller boxy fit from the chest to the waist. Multiple times I pinched the fabric from behind, showing a true visual of what I was wanting... still being straight from top to bottom, but just pulled in to be a more narrow fit. The first 2 times I was explaining it she would interrupt and say, "I know I know, you want it taken in below the ribs". Um.. "no, that's the exact opposite of what I just said". The 3rd time explaining she interrupted again and I had to say, "please, please let me finish what I'm saying so you understand!" She let me finish, confirmed what I explained and had it ready for me about a week after. Well, I showed up, tried it on and she STILL pulled it in at the ribs, maiming it an hourglass shape, much like a women's blouse!! I told her that I specifically said NOT to do that!?! She said she "must've misunderstood". Then she went on to say that she couldn't let it out, because she cut material OUT to make it look like that. There was absolutely nothing I could do and this $65 scrub top (never even worn) was completely useless. I could've refused it and left, but I paid anyway. She clearly knew I was mad about her mistakes, but still charged me $55 (about how much the top actually cost me to purchase!). I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, but this was infuriating. I'm giving 3 stars ONLY because they were nice and friendly. I'd give a 1-star for customer satisfaction, though. I believe she IS a very good tailor/seamstress, but she just doesn't pay attention in an industry where attention to detail is everything. read more

I had the best experience at Helina's Alterations and I recommend that anyone and everyone go here. She is SUCH a nice lady who really cares about her work and your happiness. She did great! Not a huge fan of the location, but hey, my suit looks awesome. She does have her little dogs staring at you as she measures you up, which if you had an issue with that might bother you. I had my fingers crossed it would all work out in time for my wedding, and sure enough, 2 days before the date everything fit great. It did take a few weeks, I'm not a frequenter of alterations, but that did seem a bit long. read more

I recently move to SLC and needed alterations done on a coat. I brought it to Helina's Alterations and KC assisted me. She is a delight! I admit I have no background in tailoring, but I seriously couldn't find where the alterations were made. Even the thread color matched perfectly. The fit was so great and I was thrilled! After my great experience with KC, I brought several other items including a pantsuit that had to be altered EVERWHERE! Again, when I picked up my items, they all fit beautifully! The pantsuit was a perfect fit!! I was beyond thrilled! KC understands what needs to be done to clothes to make them fit and also make them functional. They are experts and I would not trust anyone else with my clothes. Expensive or cheap, you will look like a million bucks after she is done with you and your clothes. KC is extremely kind, honest and a pleasure by be around. Again, I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! read more

I went to Helina's for alterations on my wedding dress, and the first thing she said when I came out in the dress was "you're too big for the dress. Go back and buy another size". After I told her that I couldn't do so, we proceeded with the appointment. I needed extra fabric around the shoulders removed and a bustle added, for which they charged me $535! I was shocked. I went to another seamstress, who not only took the dress IN but did the same work for $320 dollars LESS. I definitely would not recommend Helina's alteration! read more

This business is at a house and not a regular business place. She has 2 dogs running around so if you are allergic to dogs be aware of this. I only took two pants to be fixed. One needed to be hemmed and the other had a small cut around the back pocket that needed to be fixed. She did a pretty decent job on the pants. However, it took 5 long weeks to finish the job. Also, the day we were supposed to pick them up they were not ready even though I called 2 days before to remind her and confirm the time to pick them up. My feeling is that she is more concerned with dresses so if you have a basic alteration find a different place. Also, no sense of responsibility. read more

ok.. I am a picky guy when it comes to clothes. I took my leather blazer and my suit pants to have them altered since I lost some good 20 lb .. Well, that lady did a fantastic job on my leather blazer! And she had to redesign my pants to a slim fit ! I am happy with the service and I recommend it to anybody! read more

So far so good. Dress isn't 100% finished. She is friendly but to the point. I called around all over the valley for wedding dress alterations. ( I didn't want to drive downtown) she does it all. I'm so glad I found her. I have to drive a ways but it's been worth it. read more

14 days til I needed my bridesmaid dress, was told it would require a rush charge, I was fine with that, but if she couldn't do it I would go elsewhere. She assured me she could. Has me stand there for almost 2 hours while she pins it ,then tells me how much it will cost. After that I felt like I had wasted 2 hours and was like whatever, she already pinned it. 2 days before the wedding, I get a call to come in for my second fitting. There was no way it had even been worked on for longer than and hour. Nothing was done. Scheduled to pick it up the next day at 330, still not done! Stood there for 45 minutes again! Then sat there for and hour while she attempted to do whatever she was trying to do. She then tells me she takes on to much work, customers are getting mad cause she is messing up. That she gave me a "deal" and she forgot to charge my for some parts and that she just wanted me to recognize that. I didn't ask for a "deal" wasn't my fault she didn't charge my for everything at first. Paid $200 for what is in the pictures. Then she had the audacity to tell me she did me a favor and she deserves a big tip! She would like to retire but her husband spends all her money so she has to work 14 hour days. My tip for her would be to divorce your husband and retire! read more

If you can get past the smell then I'm guessing she does great work, but I didn't find out since she refused to work in my sweater... Because she didn't want to go buy a zipper since she didn't have the size I needed. She wanted me to go buy the zipper... I went with another place and they did a fantastic job. read more

Not a great experience. I took in multiple pair of pants to be altered. I paid good money and wanted ten done correctly. She was in a hurry and did not check to see if they were right (yes that's what she said). She altered my pants and when I went back they still didn't fit. She said it was my fault because of the way I held them. She kept them to fix them and I said what waste size I wanted. When I went back she said a size that was 4 to mean bigger than what I wanted. Her reasoning was so I could still eat a meal. She insulted me. Not the best way to earn repeat business. I now have 5 suits I cannot wear unless I pay someone else to fix her screw-ups. She is awful and rude. Save t me and money and go elsewhere. read more

I went here in high hopes that I would also become a happy and satisfied customer after reading such great reviews. I called ahead to see if it was necessary to make an appointment or if we could just walk in. After being told we could walk in my sister took an early day from work, yet upon arriving she was too busy to see us and asked us to come back another day. When doing so, she pinned and fit my sister and I to our bridesmaids dresses and then started discussing prices and it was much more than I had expected. I told her I was financially unable to pay the price asked and she was willing to work with me and lower it which I did appreciate very much. Even still I asked if she could give me a couple days to decide. In the end I called her back and decided not to go through with the alterations and she stated she would have to charge me a fitting fee which is not posted anywhere within the store but I was still willing to do that since I did take up her time. She first asked for one amount, which I agreed to with but then my sister decided she no longer wanted to go through with her alterations KC texted me stating "I gave you a discount when I was only charging that amount because I thought I was getting business through your sister, but now I am not so I will be charging you more total for your fitting as well as your sisters" I did not think it was right for her to charge me more just because she did not end up getting my sisters business and obviously it is not a policy in her store to charge anything as she is fluctuating prices on me as the situation changes. Since I am a decent person and understand this is what she does for a living I will be paying her the amount she is asking for but I will never go back. If you go through her I recommend you ask ahead of time a price range and what happens if you don't decide to move forward with doing business. read more
