Steak was the best steak I've had! Lobster tails were really impressive too! Service was outstanding, really good fun! Took advantage of the Bookatable offer with £10 free casino chips and had a really great evening! They even brought out a cake to sing happy birthday to me! Would highly recommend!

Heliot Steak House @ The Hippodrome Casino, Leicester Square - I wish I could see it as a compliment when I have to battle with someone over my age to buy alcohol, gamble or in this case, enter a casino. I went not to gamble but to dine in Heliot Steak House restaurant which happens to be embedded inside the Hippodrome Casino. We were advised to bring an ID but it was not necessary. I did not because I did not think of it - clearly shows that I do not frequent casinos. So, I had a hard time convincing the bouncer that I was well over the legal age limit, even with my wrinkles! Flattered? No, because I am a grumpy sort before my morning coffee. Fifteen minutes later and a friend to the rescue, I was allowed in. Inside, the place was quite eye catching. There were lots of bling, bling lighting. I do not mean that the money from the winnings on the casino table but the neon lights, chandelier, bar, and even the toilet mirrors had frames with light bulbs. I dread to think what they electricity consumption is, but from the customer's point of view, I was impressed with the deco. Showy, that's it and I do like it. Once seated, on the first floor, I'd never have thought for one moment I was in a casino. It does not look like it could, but Heliot can cater for 150 diners. At Heliot, they are known for the great value of USDA prime steak. Or if you are not a big fan of steak there are other dishes from England's favourite, fish and chips, Italian style ravioli and American style dishes. If you still have to wait for a table in the restaurant, there are six bars in The Hippodrome serving American beer and unique cocktails. For this event, we have gathered to sample Heliot's new American brunch menu. On to the food... country fried steak £7.00 - this was something completely new to me. It is essentially breaded fried steak. There were many who were unsure of this dish but I did like it because it was well cooked, fried properly with the crunch and not too oily. The steak was so well done that it could be any red meat, hence many felt like it was a waste of a good cut. It was not tough but just nice. I didn't like the sausage gravy though. chilli fried egg, and bacon bioche roll £7.00 - the favourite of the group. It was simple but appealing. Even the burnt brioche bun was forgivable. eggs benedict £7.00 - a very rich hollandaise sauce, generous amount of smoked salmon but the muffin was a little soggy. side of sausages, bacon and hash browns - the sausages and hash browns were surprisingly good but the bacon was not great. It was meant to be a side dish, but I'd much rather just have this with toast and butter. pancake stack £7.00 - we purposefully left this dish towards the end because firstly it was a sweet dish so it felt more appropriate to end it like a dessert brunch. Secondly, it was my diner's favourite brunch dish and she wanted to save it till the last and end it with a sweet note. But by then it was cold (that was probably our fault for leaving it till the end) and a very soggy bread. It was not as enticing as it looks and was quite a carb loaded dish with sugar. While I felt it was ok, my diner did not approve at all. We enjoyed the event but being in a group of 60, food came out a little slow. I am not sure that Heliot Steak House is going to be my choice of a brunch venue, although very strategically located by Leicester Square tube station. I tend to associate brunch with having more natural daylight, being in tune with the weather and a view of people strolling up and down the high street. I've heard some superb reviews - from discerning fellow foodies - about their steaks at Heliot Steak House, and hopefully I will be back soon to try them.

The basement has a bar, lounge and restaurant. It was a little noisy. But we could still talk. The roasted scallops were cooked perfectly. The green sauce was tasty. I love the presentation. The Bill Marrow was also good. It was very rich. There were two kinds of Sunday roast a sirloin and a rump. Three of us had the rump roast dinner and three had the sirloin roast dinner. It was hard to tell the difference. All the dinners came with roasted potatoes greens and of course, Yorkshire pudding. It was all delicious. I have to say my favorite part is always the Yorkshire pudding. I also have a green salad, which is basically just lettuce with a light dressing. It was very fresh. We were too full for dessert. The service was excellent. We were seated right away and given water. In the UK, you can order sparkling, still or tap. Sparkling and still come with a charge. Tap is usually free. Our server was attentive without hovering. It's a good idea to make reservations at Hawksmoor especially for the Sunday roast. We got there at three by the time we left around 4:30 some of the roasts were already sold out. Just a note: Sunday roost is usually a late lunch not a dinner. It's good to go between two and four especially if you don't have a reservation.

Three courses for £35, I started with the chicken liver pâté, rich and silky enough to make you close your eyes and savor it. The slow-roast West Country beef. Medium, of course why would you do it any other way. And the mince pie, boozy. Very boozy. Consider yourself warned. We were seated right in front of the fire pit, which added a rustic, cozy touch to the whole experience. Sure, it got a little toasty toward the end, but with the freezing cold outside, I wasn't about to complain. It felt like a true British winter dining experience, and I'd do it all over again.

Our food and drinks arrived promptly. We got the 40oz Tomahawk Steak and split it between 3 adults. Ordered the steak medium rare, and it came out a bit closer to rare but that's OK. The peppercorn sauce was delicious. Steak came with 2 potato sides so we had roasted potatoes and fries. I've been traveling in Europe for 2 weeks and these were easily the best fries I've had the entire trip. Crispy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside, and well seasoned. They do not offer real/straight horse radish. Only a creamy horse sauce. We had a delicious Bordeux red with the steak and it was a perfect pair. They do have a kids menu, which had some decent options... Squid and chips, burger, Mac and cheese, steak frites. The grilled Tuna Steak almost overshadowed the Tomahawk. We ordered it pink inside, and they delivered. It was perfectly seasoned and served with a garnish of grilled avocado with a tomato salsa. An incredible piece of fish! The building used to be a porn cinema so some of the artwork reflects that time. I'd describe it as tasteful decor, despite the subject matter. I felt like my Negroni cocktail was watered down. Don't miss Sofie's. So good!

They had room for party of 4 and it was Monday night, so "butcher" pricing, which means you pay what they pay by the weight for your meat. There was a chalk board that listed all the cuts by weight and as they sold, they crossed them off. There were still plenty available in a variety of cuts when we arrived around 8pm. I love that the entire restaurant is underground. We ended up getting an 800kg ribeye and it was the perfect amount of meat for us. We did supplement with lots of sides including the bone marrow, mushrooms on toast, beef dripping chips, and sweet potato. My favorite was the sweet potato, which was ash roasted for 10 hours and you could taste it. They all went will with the steak that came out in about 20 minutes, pre-sliced with a nice presentation. We also got a few of the cheese and pickle, which was a hit with my wife. Our server was great and we enjoyed our time and meal very much!
