We did get a good scare right at the end by an actor but that was about it. In short: if you're at Six Flags with kids, it's safe to bring them in here…read more I don't mean for this review to be mean, but after paying $35 on top of a full-priced Six Flags ticket and hanging out in 38-degree weather for 45 minutes to get in, I want to be scared, please! :) I went to this particular haunted house at Fright Fest years ago and remembered it being absolutely terrifying, so when I visited this weekend, I was truly ecstatic to step back into the Massacre Medical Center to get freaked the hell out. I'll start with the fabulous things about this space, which are the aesthetics: the decorations are absolutely on point, and the whole place really looks like a hospital-turned-asylum, which is a really intriguing concept. Unfortunately, there are more negatives than positives: There were probably 7-8 scarers in the whole haunted house, and the scariest thing they did was burn everyone's eardrums by wailing. Six Flags Fright Fest is so expensive and freezing, and everyone's waiting in line for so long, so it's sad to experience a cheap walkthrough where people are just screaming and breathing deeply from behind a railing. However, if you have children, this is a good experience for them, because they most likely won't be too terrified of it.

It has 16, soon to be 17 coasters making it one of the best places in the world for amusement rides for families and thrill seekers. The only complaint is this season the maintenance crew is understaffed leading to one train on a couple rides which should not be happening by almost July now. Overall great experience and leading into further improvement but beware of long lines so go on weekdays and if on weekends get there at 10:30 for opening and stay till close

I'm the last person who should be reviewing a haunted anything as I can't handle even the most…read moreinnocuous ghost stories enjoyed by tots (e.g. was totally freaked out by Wallace & Gromit in The Curse of the Were-Rabbit). So, the physicality of enclosures designed to terrify adults is just not something that interests me. However, I couldn't be more enthused about this bit of local flavor: Every October, a family in the sleepy town of Roselle sets up three big tents in their front yard and crafts within them a truly excellent Halloween experience for the community. We'd been noticing the tents for a while, but only started investigating them last year. I figured it was going to be the usual cutesy Halloween stuff, but no. The level of creepiness and goriness was such that I couldn't handle actually entering the tents, so I mostly looked on as my partner Wolf R. had a good time checking everything out. But even he got a little surprise at the end: While looking into the coffin in the last tent, he was spooked by a large vampire swinging down from above, and a second later, he was further startled by a person dressed in all black, including a black face mask, creeping up behind him. I'd have laughed if I wasn't so busy making sure nothing was creeping up behind me. This year I felt a bit more bold and decided to follow a whole group of little kids into the leftmost tent, themed like a haunted carnival with evil clowns. This ain't so bad, I thought, enjoying the creative clowns and even snapping a pic. And then, I don't even understand what it was, but the odd noises and spinning lights they'd set up conspired to get under my skin and I felt like I was going to totally lose it if I didn't retreat *immediately*. My god. The middle tent was the gory cannibalistic one, with zombies and body parts and -- well, I won't spoil it for you. It was so gross that I couldn't actually look at it long enough to take a picture. And this year, the last tent was themed like a haunted hotel with black lights. Nothing jumped out at my partner this time but he still loved it. As it turns out, the haunted house also promotes a good cause: They collect non-perishable food for the Bloomingdale Food Pantry. The family also accepts donations if you'd like to chip in to their haunted house efforts. I'm just hoping they'll do a set of friendly winter wondertents one of these Decembers :) Hours: According to the listing on this page (http://www.wlsam.com/calendar/default.asp?DATE=10/11/2012), they're open 6-10PM Thursdays through Sundays in October, with extended hours in the last week of October.

Boy boi did it surprise me. Crowds: they limit tickets into their farm meaning it doesn't feel like you stepped into Disney land with insane crowds. Busy enough to feel exciting but not where you're bumping into people left and right. Cornmaze: the HIGHLIGHT of our visit. This isn't any ordinary corn maze. They have an entire scavenger hunt that connects to their app. So you have to find 14 question and scan the QR code to answer. If you find all 14 (it's a hunt) and get all the questions right you're entered into a raffle. We had SO much and found all 14. It was such a fun bonding experience for our family. Pumpkins, mums, and more: the pumpkins and mums felt very reasonably priced. And the mums were HUGE and healthy compared to getting them at the big stores. We also enjoyed some hot cocoa, hot apple cider and kettle corn. All delicious. Animals: I'm an animal activist and reduce to visit places where animals are forced to provide entertainment. This place had a petting zoo but didn't allow kids inside and there was no actual animals rides. Thank you Kroll's. They have definitely upgraded the space, and the thrills, haunts, and creativity were simply amazing. We arrived around 6:45 p.m. to catch all the characters coming out for their haunted parade, which really set the tone for the night. We got in within about 30 minutes using the regular line without having to pay for express or VIP. I went with just my husband, and it was definitely creepy navigating those dark, tight spaces with plenty of jump scares and eerie visuals. When you think you're done, you quickly realize you're only halfway through. The group ahead of us even bowed out through an emergency exit, but we were troopers and made it to the end. Even after finishing the long maze, we found ourselves wanting more because the adrenaline was still pumping. Huge kudos to the team for creating such an unforgettable experience. We will definitely be back.
