I love this store & their mission! Bring your own containers of any kind to refill with their wide variety of bulk products. I regularly buy laundry & dishwasher pods, eggs, coffee, tea, kombucha, spices, Wild Waters Soapery shampoo, and rice here. Most prices are comparable to similar products at Harmons, and you're not paying extra for packaging! They have a small selection of packaged organic goods, produce, and local kombucha. All the staff are very friendly & helpful. They have a rewards program to earn $ off future purchases. The one drawback is they lost street parking during the 300 W rebuild, so the back entrance & lot aren't very welcoming. But they are working to improve that! read more

If you're trying to minimize your plastic waste, Hello!Bulk Markets is a great option. You can bring in your containers and refill them with bulk products, eliminating the individual packaging. When you arrive, you weigh any containers you plan to fill. They provide a scale, markers and funnels to use to fill up your bottles. You;ll find a variety of spices, soaps, legumes, beans, etc. The store itself is rather small, but that adds to its charm. The staff is very friendly and eager to help. I also learned that they will have a truck soon that will take the inventory mobile into different communities. I'm excited for that since it's about a 30 minute drive for me today. read more

I really dig this place and plan on supporting it as it's one of the few bulk shopping options I've found. Unfortunately, it's a bit of a drive for me to come here (30+mins), so I come every 3-4 weeks when my spices and other bulk items start to run low. I wasn't sure what this shop offered the first time I was told about it, so I brought more bottles/packaging to refill than I actually used. It's helpful to bring a Costco-type box to carry these bottles in and out of the shop. Parking is convenient and free right outside. It's always a little busy, but I enjoy the shopping experience every time I visit. The owner and employees are all very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Sign up for the return customer program for points! Pro tip: Label your bottles and containers (with wipeable crayon or tape/sharpie) with what you want before you come in so you can drop your bottles and employees fill up for you while you hang. There is a small produce section with things like apples and maybe two other kinds of produce right when you walk in. There are jars for purchase if you don't have your own packaging to refill. Dog treats and some canned goods (marinara, pickled veggies, veggies) are in the same area. There are a couple of small, open refrigerators next to this section that have an array of items like eggs (I cleaned them out the first time), hummus, non-dairy cheese, milk, salsa, homemade desserts, etc. etc. Behind that, there are all the dry pantry and bathroom items. Last time I came, I got a bunch of spices, a ton of uncooked chickpeas, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, and spiced apple kombucha in a growler (hey, drinking that right now!). They did not have dried parsley or marjoram, but I don't know if that's because they were out or they just don't carry them. They also have single-serving TP, but it's more expensive since it's sustainable product. I like how they have different soap and hair product options so you don't have to stick to just one. I have been really pleased with the quality so far. The cost keeps typical grocery shopping way down, and I feel so much better being able to reuse the packaging instead of "recycling" which we all know is really just piling up. Bulk shopping should be EVERYWHERE! I hope they are able to keep expanding so I have less of a drive in the future... read more

When I heard of the opening of Hello! Bulk Markets I was so excited! It's an attractive gem of a shop, with a focus on local items where available, and otherwise, brands appear to be high quality, with a bent toward organic or all-natural. Due to the nature of some products, a few come pre-packed, but probably 90% of their stock is bulk. I love this SO SO SOOO much. I hate to see all the packaging I am constantly just tossing (and yes, it's recycled, but it would be better if I didn't have it in the first place!). They make it so easy to be earth friendly here. You weigh whatever container you have brought in, and record the weight directly on it with a chalk marker. When you check out you weigh your purchase, entering the tare into the system to deduct the container's original weight. Easy peasy. And never fear, if you forget to bring in your own, they sell bottles and vessels of all sorts. While the space is small, and at first glance it does not appear the inventory is all that large, I sure was surprised and impressed when I really got to looking! They have a handy prepared foods cooler filled with spiralized vegetables, pre-cut fruit, oatmeal, vegetable patties, cooked and seasoned beans, pickles, some condiments, etc. There is local Han's (yummyx1000, get some!) kombucha plus another brand on tap (and they will accept bottle returns, yay!). In the bulk area, they offer all the standards (beans, grains, cereal, candy, spices, etc), plus some extra cool stuff like beautiful teas (some from local Greenthread Herbs!), olive oil, and even supplies to make your own bath and body goods. Speaking of which, they sell local Olio products, and I picked up a bar of facial soap that is wonderful: naturally and refreshingly fragranced, super cleansing, but not too drying, and will easily last several months. There is also bulk liquid shampoo, body wash, detergent, etc. They have soap nuts/berries, wool dryer balls, and reusable beeswax wraps, too! The first time you check out you'll need to create a customer profile, but from there it's saved, and you can make purchases all on your own (though the girl working was happy to assist and walk me through). Considering the high quality here, you would expect the cost to be above average, but it's not! The cumin I purchased was less than what I pay for it in bulk at Sprouts, that amazing Olio soap was like $3, and while bulk goods are often less than their packaged counterparts, even compared to the same products sold bulk elsewhere in the area, prices were generally the same or even less! It truly is a lovely little market, and I only wish it was a little closer to home, or even just more centralized Salt Lake City. With that said, it's not THAT far, and worthy of the bit of extra time to stop by a few times a month. If you need more encouragement, they even host workshops and sample Saturdays! read more

YOU CAN BE A HERO!!! SAVE THE EARTH AND MONEY!!! I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!! Grab all your containers and head down to one of the raddest stores in Salt Lake!!!! Here you can fill up on soaps, hair products, honey, granola, spices, coffee, tea, rice, chocolate chips, oatmeal... you get the idea!! It's not all just healthy either - there's some candy, cause - ya know - we all need that from time to time too!! And - kombucha on tap - WHAAAA???? I had fun searching my house for containers to bring - I brought an empty peanut butter pretzel container from Costco, cleaned out an empty honey dispenser, glass mason jars, used soap containers, etc. And if you don't have containers - they'll sell you glass ones for cheap! I met the owner - Jamaica - and she is super cool. Says the store has been in place for about 5 months, and they're getting ready to move to a new location soon. Seriously - we ALL need to be doing this! If you love the Earth and hate garbage, shop here!! We all can do more to reduce our waste, and this place is a great start!! I have started to go to Hello!Bulk a month ago (finally!). I try to avoid wasting anything, and I re-use as many containers I get from groceries as I can! So going to a bring your own contained store is perfect for me! And they have fresh local produce, and a lot of local products! Going there during Covid feels safe too! You were a mask to get in, there is hand sanitizer everywhere, you give your containers (I label them at home already), they disinfect them, check that they get what you want, then you wait inside, or outside or you come back later to pick up. They fill everything for you and you just have to get back in and pay! Everyone is nice and knowledgeable too. And you can check their inventory on the website to label everything beforehand. My husband and I really enjoyed our first visit to Hello!Bulk Markets. Jamaica was so helpful right when we walked in. She walked us through the process and was there when we had questions. I am so pleased that we found a grocery that has great options and will help us reduce our plastic waste. I really appreciated the thoughtful signage, variety of bulk items, soaps and cleaning products, and pleasant atmosphere. Everything looked great - and I can't wait to come back! I'd recommend first time visitors bring a few different sizes jars (some small enough for spices, others big enough if you want to get rice or other grains). We brought cloth reusable bags that were nice for some of the bigger items like apples and bread, and we found them useful. I also recommend walking around the store first so you can gage which contain you might want to use for what and see what you might be interested in around the store. Yes! I was looking for a place where I could buy bulk while bringing my own packaging. Not to get all preachy about it, but I am making a sincere effort to reduce my plastic waste. While it's not an easy endeavor, one place I've found where I can make a real difference is by buying in bulk. Better yet, if I could buy in bulk without using plastic bags, etc. We checked this place out the other weekend for their grand re-opening and I was blown away by how awesome it already is and I guess they have plans to expand their offerings, including offering a meal plan service. They have a large selection of grains, legumes, and other dry goods, but also things like liquid soaps and shampoos. You bring your own packaging, which you weigh and mark before you begin shopping so that you only pay for the weight of the product, without the added weight of that mason jar your trendy-ass brought (speaking to myself, now). If you don't have packaging, they do have jars of different sizes for purchase at a reasonable price. We have a dearth of stores catering to the zero- and less-waste crowds and I was sorely disappointed to learn that Cali Natural Foods had closed. But Hello!Bulk is doing their best to provide, and their best is pretty damn good. read more

I have known about HelloBulk since they first opened but haven't been in yet because I thought it would be more expensive. Over the last year I have been making a concerted effort to use less plastic. I needed several staple pantry and cleaning items that are usually in plastic packages, so I decided to try it out today. When I got home I did a little shopping around to compare prices...mind you I had to look at 4 different stores to find the best prices. When it was all said and done a few things were a little bit more expensive than other places, but most were less expensive. If I had gone and found those items at other stores if would have cost me $43.16 and I would have gone to 4 stores to get the best price. At HelloBulk my total was $40.16. So not only is it less expensive, no plastic waste, less gas and time running around but I also get to support a local store that sources locally and ethically. A win for everyone! read more

I love this place because there isn't anywhere else like it in salt lake county. The bulk items are so nice to have on hand, I love being able to reuse containers and mason jars. The new location offers jar return credits and a they make sure to source locally as much as possible. I truly believe in this business because I've thought for a while about how much waste is created through food packaging, not to mention the amount of money spent on items (for example with quinoa or maple syrup you're mostly paying for packaging that ends up in a landfill and takes 30 years to decompose). I have been following Hello! on IG for a while now and I love what they are doing! I finally made a trip to SLC and brought some containers with me! With covid right now they are filling the containers for you, so you label what you want it filled with and drop the containers off, then go back and pay! I took a small walk around the store to see what I wanted to get for this trip and LOVED the options! For the first trip we got nutritional yeast, gummy bears and popcorn but I want to go back when I start running low on soap, detergents and body products! They have amazing vendors and everything they offer aligns with products I like to keep in my house! The prices were great and I loved the staff. read more

Our first visit to Hello!Bulk did not disappoint. While they are a little bit out of the way, they are right around the corner from All Chay, on of our favorite vegan restaurants ever, and Mountain West Hard Cider, my husband's favorite hard cider place. But regardless of where it's located, we'll be going back for all our staples from here on out. Not only are the products they carry of high quality, but we're saving the environment, one plastic packaging at a time and that's worth the drive any day. So we're not sure of the normal procedure, but the COVID procedure is that you bring your containers either pre-labeled (just look on their site for the current products list) or label it there, they wipe it down and weigh it for the empty weight, they fill it (for safety reasons we're not allowed to touch the products), then they weigh it again and charge you for the difference in weight. If you don't want your container filled with an item, just note how much on the tape or mark a line on your container. They also sell farm fresh eggs so save your last ever grocery store container for these high quality eggs, and pre-made foods. Of the pre-made items, we tried the vegan arepas and the PRIN-YA vegan Japanese style custard. The arepas were best toasted (we also tried it cold, but I would highly recommend it toasted) - I set it for 400 at 15 minutes and it was perfectly crisp yet melted inside, a great combo! The custard however, that was the star of the show. There are several flavors - we chose the matcha as the two lovely ladies that worked there said their favorites were the chocolate, matcha, and mango and there was only one matcha left that day so we decided on that and holy smokes, it was AMAZING! The flavor was so complex and delicious, words don't do it justice - you just have to get this custard! We'll be trying the other flavors next time we stop by, and every other time to be honest as it will be a staple on our list for any trip to Hello!Bulk! It's a bit on the pricey side, but oh so worth it! And I do have to say, that it comes in a reusable mason jar that we have already repurposed for peanuts from the bulk section of the regular grocery store so you don't have to worry about waste either and now you have a small container for the items that you don't want a ton of - win win! read more

This mini-warehouse is a little hard to fine, but worth it. Don't forget to bring your own containers as we didn't and had to scramble. Luckily, they had small paper bags to give away. Please note that this is like the bulk foods at some supermarkets, but has more of a variety. I was expecting massive quantities, but it is for local people who just want decent prices of items you may not find at your local store. Next time I come, I will be prepared! read more

I love this store so much! I was very nervous to go the first time because I had never been to a bulk store. What do I bring? What do they have? How does the weighing of the jars work? Jamaica is amazing and walked me through the store and explained everything to me. She was so gracious and kind about every question I had. Made suggestions for things she thought may be useful to me and started casual conversations about items other shoppers loved. I drive up to Salt Lake from Orem for the shopping because I love the concept and want to support her shop. We need more of this and I love all of the options that are offered. It is honestly the most relaxing and satisfying shopping experience I have ever had. I definitely suggest going and giving it a try. Bring more jars than you think you will need because you will find more than you think. Everything is worth a try and I have not regretted a single purchase I have made yet. read more
