Delivery only, no physical location that I could visit to see where my food is being made. Sus.

Met an old friend of mine here for dinner. We made a reservation online with no issues. The outside seating area was very nice and cozy. They had cute stringed lights set up, some fans for when it is hot, and heat flames - not sure if the flames were heaters or decor only, but my guess would be they actually work (we sat on the side closer to the building so not next to them, thankfully as I actually got a little hot). We had a nice young woman for our server who was very attentive and sweet. She answered our questions, specifically the difference between the "Tacos" and "Grilled Tacos" - for the record, it has nothing to do with the meat (like grilled chicken vs fried) and everything to do with the taco style - meaning corn or flour, and grilled like a panini or regular style. We had some drinks - margarita, sangria, and a moscow mule; all great! We ordered the cornbread for the table. It was a little different from your typical cornbread - it had jalapeños in it but wasn't too spicy and was more like grilled pieces than baked. And they were cut up into triangular shapes. Not as sweet as some other cornbreads and had like a chipotle dipping sauce. For our meals, we had the Trippy Taco bowl, mix and match regular tacos chicken and steak, and a burger. The entrees came out quickly, great presentation, and as expected. The tacos and burger came with fries (shoe-string) and they were quite delicious - and the salad had a nice amount of tortilla chip strips on top. It's an interesting mix of american and mexican, done tastefully. The menu had enough options without being too overwhelming.

Came here for the first time for late lunch. Menu was extensive with burgers and tacos. Opted for a…read morefish taco, shrimp taco, and side of rice. Was really good and would recommend this place again for a tasty and reasonable meal. Service was very pleasant.

I was solo and sat at the bar as the restaurant was full and that was the only option for a walk-in. However the seating was nice, service was outstanding and super fast. I asked for recommendations and was happy I listened to my waiter. I had the She Crab soup and honestly, it was the best I have ever tasted. It was more like a bisque and super tasty and rich and had lots of crab. I would put this recipe in the She Crab Hall of Fame it was that good. I then ordered the blackened Carolina Redfish and holy moly this dish was devine. It was a chargrilled blackened redfish over super smooth whipped potatoes, generous portion of lump crab, and just the perfect amount of citrus beurre blanc (note I deleted the spinach on my dish) and it was one of the best fish preparation I have ever had. I simply can't believe how delicate and soft and tasty this dish was. Unreal preparation and flavor that I would gladly order again and again. I really don't visit this part of the country that often, but this place will definitely be calling be back very soon.

Tonight was fantastic. We had dinner at 6 pm. The place was almost full. We finished at 8 and it is still packed!! Very impressive to be so busy. I ordered salmon... rare.. because I like it undercooked and hate it overcooked. This place cooked it to perfection just as I asked. That is rare. Richard ordered the seafood stew. He ate every morsel... included wreckfish, shrimp, scallops... he loves a good scallop... and these were tasty and cooked perfectly. We highly recommend this restaurant. Our waitress, Mary, was very informative and professional. Quite a wonderful meal.

I've driven past Slap Fish on my trips to HHI for the past decade--was never sure if it was "fast…read morefood" or beach seafood shack or what...and while locals either love or hate the place, I was encouraged to give it a chance and it would surprise me. I visited during the last week of February, so definitely "pre-season" and there was no wait (or many patrons) at 6:00 pm. I must confess that I am a New Englander, so we take our seafood pretty seriously; I'm not daft enough to order lobster in SC, when it should be coming from Maine, so I passed over those options, but I was curious to try the "New England Clam Chowder". We also ordered the fried pickles w/ Jersey sauce, an order of the special Jax shrimp (akin to bang bang shrimp), 2 fish sandwiches, a shrimp burrito, and I had an ultimate taco. You order at the counter, grab your utensils and condiments off to the side, along with fountain drinks & iced tea. They sell draft beer, a limited variety of bottled beer, some Truly-type seltzer cans, but I had to have a Mexican Coke, even though it set me back $4.50. Sit in the dining area and the food is delivered to your table. First off: the NE clam chowder was hot and filling, but it was more like a loaded baked potato soup--too viscous (not dairy based), some clam flavor, but too much bacon. I spied some clams, and there was a spicy finish; truthfully, I could not finish it but folks unaware of how it should be wouldn't bat an eye. The fried pickles were large spears in a light, tempura-like batter; the group agreed we'd have liked them cut into smaller bites to make them easier to manage. But tasty. The fish sandwiches were piled high with fresh cod filets, lightly breaded and sitting atop a brioche bun piled with lettuce & tomato, served with seasoned fries (paprika-forward). We got a side of the homemade coleslaw, and everyone agreed it was fresh and delicious. The shrimp burrito took a bit of time to come out after all the other dishes, but it was large and half was taken home to finish later. My ultimate taco was fabulous! It arrived garnished like some sort of fancy-pants entree at a high-end restaurant--a huge surprise and very filling. It lived up to its description requiring two hands to hold it. My favorite of the night was actually the special Jax shrimp, which we added on a whim--shrimp was perfectly breaded & fried, all very plump & juicy. I'd have eaten another order of them if I'd had the room. I believe Slap Fish is worth a visit--perhaps several visits. If you discount the New England clam chowder (get a native in the back to show the cook how to make it!), every piece of fish was fresh and delicious. Again, I'm not sure how Slap Fish measures up in the height of the summer season, but I was pleasantly enlightened on my first visit.

Chow Daddy's - the name would suggest an old school barbeque joint or maybe a diner; but it is…read moreneither. Hilton Head Island has seen some changes in food offerings in the last decade, but fresh and new American fusion isn't common. Enter Chow Daddy's. With two locations (the other in Bluffton) we hit this one on Hilton Head. It's a risky place to put a restaurant, buried in the back plaza of a nondescript but high-end shopping center deeeep in the wooded neighborhoods of the island's Southern tip. If you're staying elsewhere on the island, you'll find you have to pay a small fee to access Sea Pines but many people do to get to the Salty Dog Cafe as well. While it may not get a lot of visibility, it is definitely worth seeking out for the very good Latin American cuisine being offered. Out party of five arrived on an August Friday evening after making reservations and were impressed with the cleanliness and upscale minimalist vibe. Dark booths and Edison-style lighting are offset by the daylight let in by picture windows. There is outside seating in the patio (very pleasant in the shade) and a small bar open off the host area. Inside seating is large enough for bigger parties of 6-8. Definitely not a post-beach day place, but perfect for date night, or more dressy family dinner out. Service was quick and talkative; we enjoy chatting beyond food with out severs which makes the experience even better. Apps and mains were delivered quickly with good presentation. We started with the fine fresh corn dip - extra tortillas were helpful to get the last bits. Mains included a fresh and well pattied cheesburger, mix-n-match tacos and two specialty bowls - cajun shrimp with spicy fine fat prawns and an Ahi-tuna poke style bowl. The rice in both was excellent and the portions were perfect. I'll try to un-hide this hidden star with this review and encourage you to seek it out if you live on "HHi" or make your next visit. Rare 5 star from us.

I came here with a bunch of friends from my undergraduate research lab while we were in Hilton Head presenting at a conference. We had rented a condo to all stay together and this place was in walking distance, so we headed over. I don't remember what all everyone else got to eat, or much about the service, but I do remember it was a total vibe. Beachy decorations that were fun but still classy and not too kitschy, warm lighting, good music. I ordered an item probably not even on their menu anymore: pulled barbeque chicken on a hunk of spicy cornbread with a side salad. I checked online and it's nowhere to be found, but it slapped at the time, and from pictures it seems like you can still maybe order their spicy cornbread at least, which was the best part! It had a great cakey texture and some legit heat. The chicken was succulent and tender and the smokiness paired well with the salad. It seems Chow Daddy's enjoyed a decade of success after my visit so long ago. I hope the temporary closure listed on the Yelp page doesn't turn into a permanent one. It was a pleasant surprise to be reminded of this visit and my time with friends.
