I really loved this place. My sister and I were visiting New York and stumbled across this joint while on our travels. We wanted simple tiny tattoos that matched. They took us right away and were so friendly. My sisters was perfect on the spot, but due to its placement behind my ear, I didn't notice a tiny issue with mine until after we left. Just got inked by Red and spent a while in the shop watching Red interact with clients before me and clients after me. Here's the reality; Red isn't going to give you what you want. This isn't Burger King, he isn't there so you can have it your way. What he WILL do is talk with you about ways in which your idea can be turned into a great tattoo. I know, I know, you've had your heart set on this specific thing in this specific spot on your body. If it can be done, you won't find better than Red to do it. If, however, the art doesn't translate well into ink, if the spot on the body isn't shaped in a way that most flatters the design, or if there's something else that will later result in your ink being anything less than epic, Red's gonna tell you upfront. While we all want the extra side of salad dressing we asked our server for 15 minutes ago, a tattoo client should never want an artist who just agrees and inks. That's how folks end up with tattoos that make you cringe when you see them. That's how things fade too quickly, blow out too fast, become illegible in a few years, or look like clutter. So yeah, you may end up having a discussion with Red rather than a nod. Yeah, it might not be the same experience you get at a fast food joint that just gives you what you came for, no questions asked. In exchange though, you'll walk out with a badass piece that you'll be proud to show, that is legible, that is well composed, that fits on your individual body's shapes and curves. Dirty, run down, scummy tattoo shop. We went here are completing the New York City Marathon to get a tattoo to celebrate our accomplishment. Within minutes of entering we were met by Mike(tattoo artist). Mike was rude and abrasive. Additionally, the shop was the dirtiest and smallest tattoo shop I've ever been in. Mike gave my wife the creeps so we decided to cut the small talk and leave the shop. We went to Times Square Tattoo about a half mile away and had a much better, cleaner and pleasant experience. Don't ever go to Lynn. 4 days later. This was supposed to be my Cancer ribbon looking as if it's coming out of my skin. I'm white and she got too happy with black. The lines are not crisp, ribbon is not symmetrical or even. I tried stopping her a few times in but she insisted I should trust her. Big mistake. Thankfully the owner and Vincent agreed to refund me my money, they couldn't have been more apologetic but hey I have to get it covered up now and spend twice as much for something else. I gave her 100 off the bat as the tattoo cost me 80, she even kept the 20 dollar tip for herself after she knew I wasn't happy. Says far more about her character than I could have ever expected. The second, which Lynn did, very simple, you'd think an amateur would have a hard time screwing that up, but she did. It's a tiny semicolon. The dot is not round and it's missing ink as well as the colon. Looks like a tattoo I got ten years ago. Told my friend that a touch up on a half-inch diameter tattoo would be cheaper than the original price of the tat but, upon coming back in, said the touch up would be the same price as the original tattoo. I live in Boston and was in town to visit family and my boyfriend when I realized that it's probably much cheaper here than in Boston (average price = $70, which is INSANE). I've been to the shop before in order to have piercings replaced by Red. Last week, I made an appointment for Red to create a purple dove (An homage to Prince. His passing is a huge loss to me...to the music industry...his music was the soundtrack to a long, significant time of my life.). I sent 3 ideas to Red...In addition to a purple dove, I wanted to include paisley designs and ribbons in turquoise in order to represent the passing of a great friend who I lost to suicide (the colors of the suicide awareness ribbon is purple and turquoise). They say foot tattoos are very painful and there is pain, swelling and bruising afterwards...not in my case. Sure, it was not an enjoyable experience when it was happening, but, that's to be expected. Red is an intimidating kind of guy when you first meet him. But, he is fun, attentive, and caring during the process. AND, accessible for questions beforehand and afterwatds. Honestly, such great prices and they take walk-ins. There is a $50 minimum which is hard to find in NYC. The place is a decent size and it was clean setting anyone at ease. I felt like the two artists that were there felt like they did not want to be there which could turn customers off. The artist that did my tattoo (no longer works there) did my tattoo making sure I was comfortable, while the other tattoo artist handled a group of obnoxious teens. Went back here yesterday to get my second tattoo. I wanted a band around my arm with my cats' names and a design of me sitting with my two cats staring at stars. I went in asking for Red but they said he didn't work there anymore. The dude who was there at the desk was super chill though! I showed my design to Lynn and she ended up doing my tattoo. Super clean, super focused, and super comfortable to talk to. Love her!! She made sure I was okay and made sure I got a break if I needed! My friend and I walked in 30 mins before they were closing and we were both able to get our piercings done. I pierced my nose and she had her rook done. Professional, clean service and to the point.
