After looking at a few tattoo shops on the map, I walked into this shop around 8pm on a Sunday. The place was empty and the artists, including who I presume to be the owner, were quick to help me out. I requested a black tattoo consisting of 3 numbers, 2" wide on my arm and was quoted $100 flat which is their minimum. The owner made a copy of my ID and the tattoo artist (sorry I forgot your name) confirmed the font and size. I waited less than 10 mins and was done within 15 mins. The lines are clean and exactly what I wanted. I also left a 20% tip. They use saniderm which I'm also a fan of. Thank you so much for my tattoo, I love it! Ok, so where to start...I came in with perhaps the simplest design possible (getting an existing date crossed out and my initials/date over it). I left my $108.88 deposit (very clearly non refundable--I get it). He then quoted me $200 for the tattoo and charged me another $108.88. It was immensely difficult to explain what I wanted him to do (in Royal Blue ink--bear in mind that I never mentioned black ink). When I explained that I wanted the "line" to be imperfect like it would be on a document (i.e. not a straight line)--he didn't seem to get it and almost got offended when we tried to really make it clear. He assured me that he could handle a straight line and kept announcing that this was "permanent." He was 3min into the tattoo and goes "oh shit...". This was because he started the tattoo in black ink. He then finished it in Blue and for some reason put tons of dots on either side of the line. So, now onto the initials and date--dude tried to start it in black ink again. Luckily, my girlfriend caught it and he did it in blue. Do not get tattooed here--like honestly. The shop can refund me the entirety of the payments to have this review removed. I'll keep posting on every review forum until I hear from them. I never leave negative reviews but wow this guy is miserable. TLDR they might be fine at what they do- I never got to that point but if you want body mods from people who make you feel comfortable. Don't go here. Total A-hole. I went in to buy a new curved barbel for my navel. I need a different size. He said they didn't have another size. Which was true. All good. But I saw several in the case that looked cute and I just wanted to take a look. Sue me I'm an impulse buyer! I was picking out a pink one to buy and the boss came over and pretty much scolded me for even looking. He said,"you aren't buying anything! What are you doing." Mind you the shop is completely empty so it's not like they were busy. I really did want to buy one. They had a good selection which is why I gave them 3 stars ‍. But I realized I just didn't want to fight give my money to a complete a-hole. Since it's in Times Square he's probably just used to drunk tourists coming in all the time but that's not an excuse. I had my very first tattoo done here, and it was a wonderful experience. The staff are all so friendly and helpful. They actually talked me out of having a piercing done because I was going to be camping and they didn't want me to get an infection. The parlour is very clean, despite how I expected it from the street view. As soon as you walk I'm through the door the smell of cleaning products is welcoming (especially in New York). Carmen did my tattoo, which was a matching tattoo a friend had gotten a couple days before. It took less than an hour for Carmen to organise the stencil and tattoo me. Plus it was $30 less than what my friend played for hers at a different parlour, even though it was the same size and almost the same place. As it was my first tattoo, I was very excited m, but as someone with a low pain thresh hold, I was nervous if the pain, but Carmen was a huge help at making me comfortable (despite my friend laughing and recording me in the corner at my winces). I was eating pizza while looking at yelp for places to get a tattoo done at, since i'm visiting from California rn. I saw that this place looked like it took walk-ins, so I called up, double checked, and then 20mins later was at the shop getting my tattoo done! Their current minimum is $100 (remember to tip your artist!) I would never go back to John. In fact I had to go to local artist here to have it fixed and it looks so much better now and I can't believe I was walking around with tattoo like that. Disclosure: I did not receive a tattoo here, so don't let the low stars throw you, if that's what you're reading for. This is more for piercing, and the staff mannerisms. I came here twice looking for a new nose ring both times. The first time, the staff was helpful, kind, funny and nice - great experience. After my hoop fell out during an eventful Saturday bar crawl, I decided to venture back for another ring. Here's what happened: - Staff was unfriendly and rude once they figured out I wasn't getting tattooed - Initially claimed that 12g (which is LARGE for a nose piercing) were the only hoops they had. After pressing them to look, they found a 14g, which is still too big but I was desperate - Claimed they were using an infinity ring; I later found out when I had to have the ring removed BY A PROFESSIONAL that it was actually an earring with the ball taken out - Piercer had to use pliers to close the thing in my nose (should have been a tip off, but I'd never had an infinity ring and assumed it was standard. Whoops. - Piercer was unprofessional and rude. At one point he grabbed and yanked at my nostril with the pliers, and when I understandably yelped a bit in pain, he started laughing and asked if I "couldn't handle a little pain" because "most girls can't anyway" So, long story short, would never, ever go here again for a piercing, if that's how they treat their clientele. But, as mentioned, I haven't received a tattoo here, and I'm sure the artists are very talented, so don't let my bad experience stop you from checking the artists out. read more

Rating piercing services, not tattoo services... I went to this place yesterday to get a cartilage and tragus piercing. Having been to other tattoo parlors in order to get my nose pierced, I think I can say that this place isn't the ideal studio to use to for piercing services, especially for first timers. I walked in with my friend who was a bit nervous about getting her cartilage done. The last piercing she had was her earlobes at 4 years old. Instead of the staff putting her at ease, she was poked fun at. The previous studio I had used for my nose basically had everything hermetically sealed and new every time. The piercer set everything up with nonsterile gloves and cleaned the site and when he was ready to pierce my nose, switched to sterile gloves, all the while through explaining what he was doing. This was only after obtaining written consent and accepting credit card payment with a receipt. First off, I was not flustered that this was a cash only place. Didn't bother me at all. However it wasn't until after I left that I realized I had not been given a receipt, had to pay in cash, and signed no form of consent, a combination which kind of bothered me. At this studio it was obvious that sterile new needles were being used to pierce, but no sterile gloves were used to do the piercing. As a matter of fact, the tattoo artist re-dipped a gloves finger into a used container of Vaseline to put some on the back of his hand to secure the needle there. Pliers and clamps for the procedure were taken out of the autoclave abut without telling how short or long they had been in there for. The person doing the piercings already had gloves on at this point and was touching the autoclave and other things in the room before using the same gloves to pierce with. There was almost no talking through the procedure--as a matter of fact when I mentioned I was a little bit nervous I was also poked fun at. Once all was said and done and the piercings were finished, I asked about aftercare and if they sold any products. I was told aftercare products are sold out and when I asked if there were any specific concerns about tragus piercings I was told to "uhhhh just clean it and put some ointment on it every now and then." The only reason this place is earning two stars is really because of efficiency. I was in and out of there in 20 minutes. Not great in terms of customer service, talking to customers, etc. read more

It's dirty and the people are rude. I went here only to change out my nose ring and it was one of my worst experiences in NYC. The place was completely empty and they had me sit there and wait while everyone just sat around. Finally an older Asian man shows up and touches my jewelry with his bare hands. They he forcefully moves my nose ring and gets aggregated when I said it hurt. He finishes then immediately walks away before I can check it and my ring is not closed all the way and my Jewelry is crooked and messed up. Please do not get a piercing here. First, I went to this store to get a replacement for my lip piercing which I had for two months. I wanted a ring so I asked if it was possible to get the size which fit my lower lip. She gave me a tiny ring and said it would fit every size with a rude and confident attitude. Later she had to use a plier to enlarge it. It was a ring at first and after the work with a plier, it was more of a straight bar instead Secondly, I paid extra charge for the piercer to replace my piercing on the spot. I had already a hole which I paid a-lot of money because it was the time getting a lip piercing. However, The piercer pierced me a new hole because i know 100% that she forced the piercing to go in because she couldn't find the hole or whatever. I do not know how this can happen and how one can lie about it. She told me the hole was too small thats why it was painful to replace it but it was in-fact she forced the piercing in the wrong spot and gave me a new hole on my face. Thirdly, It is still bleeding and is painful, the whole process of replacing my jewelry had been so bad. I had few surgeries on my face because of accidents that I had and it was not as painful as this. I cannot believe that one can do this to another person. Please people on yelp, do not go here for piercing. I might have to go to a hospital to get this constant bleeding sorted out and take it out for further infection risk. Came here because I lost the ball out of my rook piercing. Note I didn't originally get it pierced here, but was able to walk in and buy a new hoop here. The woman asked if I wanted help replacing it - of course I did - and she sat me down to put in the new one. Everything was clean & sterile and the new hoop is great.
