There's a nature trail and a run down, small playground. Across the bridge and on top of cherry hill lies an incredibly designed new playground for older kids. As a novice of woodworking, I was blown-away by the intricate woodwork and finishings throughout the home. The three ladies that lead our tour of the home shared many interesting details about the property, its restoration, and details of Clara and Henry's years at the estate. Many of the restoration stories, like finding a tub for Henry's bathroom or how Clara had a section repainted white were intriguing. Even though much of the home, especially the second floor, is still being restored it was a fascinating experience.

There wasn't much actually open amongst the majestic-looking buildings while I was there, but the picnic area was hopping. The signage was bilingual-in English and Arabic-and what appeared to be a Yemeni wedding seemed to be taking place. The juxtaposition of the estate of an industrialist (or robber baron, or visionary, or racist, depending on your point of view) with a distinctive immigrant community makes for a striking reflection on Americana. The grounds include some gardens, and a lake with a path around it. Access to the river is limited, but it didn't look like that impressive of a river. The greenery is more worthwhile.

There's a splash pad, a pavilion, picnic tables and across the parking lot, a play ground. While I've only been there on weekday mornings, there hasn't been a big crowd, but it isn't deserted either. It was easy to follow my toddler daughter around the brick paved walkways and still not be far from the food and conversation with our group. I also saw a woman setting up for a child's birthday party there one day. I think that was a great idea! There are several different activities for the kids, and a nice central area for everyone to meet up.

Dynamite Park is a large park that is directly next to the Wayne County River Rouge park…read more                 Dynamite Park is a rustic area.  There are just a couple of picnic tables and no lavatories.  Nevertheless it is a nice location for a picnic.  The park has several areas set aside as wildlife areas.  A visit here can give anyone an overview of the present state of natural recovery in most places in Michigan.                 Deer, coyote, raccoon, opossum, hawks, fish and the occasional eagle frequent the place.  Look for tracks wherever you can.  During Spring and Autumn you may well cross paths with one or more of the wild residents.  This is an excellent place for birdwatching.  The birds that appear here range from waterfowl, to forest birds and meadow / open space birds.                 On the edge of the park is a trail leading to 'The Cliffs of the Rouge' which is a natural wonder featuring a set of cliffs towering over the River Rouge.  A visit in any season will provide a unique natural viewpoint to be enjoyed by nature lovers and appreciated by students of nature.                 Walking, hiking, snowshoeing and limited biking are all natural opportunities here.  There is plenty of open space for frisbee, baseball, football or soccer on the green fields near the water station.  The fields are not marked - these would all be impromptu games played with changing boundaries.  Have fun!
