I have nothing but great things to say about my experience purchasing my engagement ring here. Back story: My now fiancé and I have been together almost 3 years now and have recently purchased a home together. We've reached a point where it's weird to refer to each other as gf/bf and have discussed we're ready for marriage, but we never got around to the proposal/actually starting the process. My father's health had been declining for a couple years now and was recently hospitalized for the umpteenth time. We explained our situation and after finding the perfect ring for me, they were able to have things moved around for the jeweler (if that's his title) to work on the ring within the next few hours. So, we couldn't leave with it but we were expecting to pick it up before closing and planned to show my father first thing the next day, hoping he would still be up and with it to know what was happening. We get back to the hospital, show them the envelope with the Helzberg name and logo to let my mother and father know we had purchased a ring to hopefully give some peace of mind to my father that his daughter will be well taken care of. They were both so excited. As visiting hours came to a close, I start saying my goodbyes and let them know we need to grab the ring before the store closes. As I'm grabbing my purse, I hear my fiancé saying behind me, "Well I may have played a little trick on you guys...." I turn around and he's on one knee, ring in hand. I think it goes without saying, I said yes and my parents were overjoyed. Lots of tears but this time they were tears of happiness. The location on N Harlem, the staff are friendly but I am so upset that I have a 24" gold chain purchased from them and the clasp was not soldered well/flimsy. It fell off the first time I wore it. I was told it would be $80 for them to make it right as the jeweler had to add gold to it to solder it. I just picked up the chain last night and got home only to see that it is now over 3" shorter and the finish is no longer shiny but dull and fake looking- I will never ever spend another nickel in their stores and will most likely take further action, just based on principle alone. Took my wedding ring there for repair as one of the very small rubies had fallen out. I was very specific that I did not want a lab ruby and it had to be very deep red to match the others. After 6 weeks, they called to let me know it was ready. It's very dark in the area where you pick up your jewelry so I thought it was fine. The next day I noticed that the ruby was very pink and didn't match at all (what kind of jeweler does that??) When I took it back they gave me some song and dance about rubies being hard to find (even one that small?) and they would need it another 6 weeks. Gullible me believed them and had them replace the ruby with a diamond. Another 5 weeks and $200.00 more, I'm still not happy. It's not the ring I was married with. read more

I came in to have an antique ring sized. I knew it needed some work as it is over 100 years old. I just wanted to get it in wearing order. The saleswoman seemed like it was a huge inconvenience that I wanted to restore a ring instead of buying something new and spending thousands of dollars. She did show me the imperfections in the ring under the microscope, and pointed out what the ring needed. The goldsmith did not want to work on the piece because it was so old. Apparently there is a corporate policy not to work on antique pieces. I understand, but again felt as though I was an inconvenience. read more

My Fiance and I already had an idea of what we wanted so we asked the sales lady to show us some pieces right away. One lady helped my Fiance while look at bands while another associate help me with mine. After looking at a few pieces we made our decision to purchase our wedding bands here. They have a really great care plan. You purchase the care plan at the time you purchase your piece you can cancel it in 60 days if you want. As long as you bring in your piece every 6 months for an inspection they will clean, and re size, or repair your ring free of charge. for $50 bucks i think that is a pretty good deal for maintenance of something that is important. My Fiance's ring fit so we got to bring his home the same day, mine was a bit large as most woman's rings standard size is 7 and in need a 5 1/2. They are going to have my ring ready in about a week. Considering we are not getting married until October a week isn't too bad of a wait. If you don't mind getting jewelry from a department store jeweler I think Helzberg is great. Everyone was friendly and helpful and even with our budget not being huge we were treated like we were spending a lot of money in their store and that is a good feeling. read more

Would give 1 star if only speaking of our initial salesperson. However, she was saved by the manager. We brought in our wedding rings for refurbish and several sets of earrings for diamond check and cleaning. The salesperson returned my earrings still dirty, and in fact missing a diamond in one of them. The box I had brought them in was soaked through as she didn't even bother to dry them prior to placing them back into it. While looking at the hot mess I had been given, the manager saw me and asked if everything was ok. I told her my concerns of receiving dirty earrings back and that a stone was actually missing from one. She immediately, without hesitation, prepared them for repair and replacement of stone. She then personally took the rest of the earrings and steamed them to perfection. It was so appreciated! It's sad when the service you seek has to be performed by the manager rather than staff (and this salesperson has been there for years). We have made MANY purchases and will most likely only return because the manager was wonderful. read more

It took me 4 weeks to get my rings welded together. It was guaranteed to be done on the 24th of Jan so I went thought it would be ready. When I arrived at the store I was informed that it was not ready and "the other jeweler must have it". I had to wait an additional two days after the guarantee date to get my rings. What is the point of having a jeweler on site if you have to send peoples jewelry elsewhere to get fixed? Helzberg did not inform me of any delays and were very rude when I went to go pick up my wedding band. Very disappointed with how they didn't communicate nor did they apologize for the delay or inform me that they were sending my rings to another jeweler. Trust is a big thing and for a company to do something as major with something so personal breaks my trust. read more

The people are friendly if you are buying something, otherwise, they don't care to "deal" with you. I dropped my wedding rings off to have a diamond replaced and she said she couldn't give me a "promised by date." So two weeks later I call at 9:51AM and a lady picks up the phone stating "Helzberg, we open at 10..." Then silence. I stated I just wanted to know if my ring was ready and she said "we open at 10." Why would she pick up the phone before they open and why would she be so rude as to make me wait a whole 9 minutes to find out about my ring!! Then when I finally got a hold of someone I told them" I haven't heard from anyone from the store so I wanted to check on my rings" and the first thing she says to me is "Oh, we don't call people" so, naturally, I asked "how am I supposed to know when my ring is ready then!" She didn't answer me and just asked for my name and reference number... The rings were supposedly going to be ready by 5 pm that day. I had no trouble picking them up but of course there were 5 people working that day, with two customers in store but I still had to wait 10 mins for someone to acknowledge me... Let's just say this is NOT my favorite store. I love the rings they produce but the people that work at this location are obnoxious. read more

I've given 3 stars since my husband and I have had good experiences here before. This last one just changed my mind on the whole business. I bought my husband a Tungston ring, of which they only stock one size sincei it ins't one of their signature brands or something, and when I bought it, I asked several times if I would be charged for sizing and was told several times, NO. I knew it would have to be sent out and I was okay with that. Well, when we brought the ring in, I was told I would have to pay for a service contract or pay to get a different ring since they can't size Tungsten. I'm very irritated by this since I wasn't told this originally. Bait and switch?? I'm feeling like I was taken for a ride. Perhaps since I didn't spend enough. Well, this is the last dime they will get from me or anyone in my family since they have now left a very bad taste in my mouth. It's a shame too. read more

DO NOT do business with this Helzberg, or any Helzberg for that matter. The first ring my husband bought me had a faulty setting that one of the diamonds fell out of not only once but twice within a 1 week period. We returned the ring telling them there was something wrong with the setting only to be treated like we were being a huge inconvenience. We ended up exchanging it for a more expensive ring and only then did they change their attitudes and treated us with "genuine" customer service. When I took my rings in to be polished before the wedding they brought them back out with the bands all scratched up. I pointed it out and the employee goes "oh the jeweler must have used the wrong brush to polish it" how does a CERTIFIED jeweler make that sort of mistake and not check his work before giving it back to the customer?! Then a few months ago I snagged a prong on something and it made the diamond lose in the setting, we took it in to be fixed (which took them 3 weeks to do something I'm sure took 1 minute to do). When I got it back the jeweler had set the diamond crooked in the setting causing a different prong to stick up and snag on everything. I was then told it would have to go back into the system to be worked on and would take another two weeks. On top of their clearly incompetent jewelers, the staff is terrible. They're rude and speak to you with attitudes everytime, no matter what you're in there for. Unless you want a massive headache and a lifetime of problems and annoyances I do not recommend doing business with this place. read more
